Torn on names for baby #4!

I am due in [name_f]October[/name_f] with my fourth baby, and my first girl! My husband and I are having a hard time coming up with names, let alone agreeing on one. Our boys have very traditional names that come from our families – [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]. The boys fit their names before they were even born. However, I’m not really fond of the “traditional” names from the women in our families. This baby doesn’t feel like an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or a [name_f]Mary[/name_f].

I wish there were equally as traditional and interesting names for our girl as there were for our boys. We’ve come up with a small list that somewhat applies to that, so we’re looking for opinions and suggestions.

Our list so far:
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]

(sidenote: I really love [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] and [name_f]Kateri[/name_f], but I’m afraid that [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] (nn Zinny) would be too childish/cutesy as she becomes an adult and that if we named her [name_f]Kateri[/name_f], she would be called [name_f]Katie[/name_f], or [name_u]Terry[/name_u], both of which I hate the sound of)

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] goes very nicely with your boys’ names, and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] works well too.

[name_f]Kateri[/name_f] is cute, and she could be nicknamed [name_u]Kay[/name_u], [name_f]Kat[/name_f], [name_f]Keri[/name_f], And probably many other nicknames besides the ones you dislike, if you end up using [name_f]Kateri[/name_f].

I don’t really care for [name_f]Helen[/name_f], but [name_f]Helena[/name_f] is pretty.

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Kateri[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]

[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is fairly traditional/classic, but there are many nicknames that can change as she grows.
[name_f]Alexia[/name_f], [name_f]Alexa[/name_f], [name_f]Lexa[/name_f], [name_f]Lexia[/name_f], [name_f]Alessandra[/name_f], [name_f]Alessia[/name_f] are some others you may like, and of course [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f].

One of my favorites on your list is [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]! I think it could age quite lovely, though I’ve had it with nn [name_f]Nia[/name_f] which ages better than Zinny.

I also love [name_f]Frances[/name_f]! [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] works well with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m] & [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]. I think [name_f]Frances[/name_f] works best from your list, but I’m always ready to say how much I like [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f].

I also like:
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]

I agree and was also going to mention [name_f]Helena[/name_f]-I like it pronounced He-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nah. Good luck and congrats!

I was going to suggest [name_f]Helena[/name_f] too. I think it would go really well.

And I really like [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] with your boys names, it has the same classic but contemporary feel. [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_f]Helen[/name_f] would fit in nicely too but they still feel somewhat more old-fashioned / vintage than your boys. I also really like the suggestion of [name_f]Helena[/name_f].

If you’d like a variation of a family name, do you like [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] or [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] as a variation of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]?

What about:

[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]

I adore [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_f]Helen[/name_f] with your sibset! [name_f]Helen[/name_f] especially is stunning!

I love [name_f]Frances[/name_f]! [name_m]How[/name_m] about:

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]

I think that Melusina had a great idea of using a variant of some of your family names.

I love [name_f]Frances[/name_f] with your boys.
[name_f]Helen[/name_f] works well enough but it’s not my style, I much prefer the suggestion of [name_f]Helena[/name_f].
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] works well, but I dislike [name_u]Alex[/name_u], particularly since it would sound like you have 4 boys should she choose to go by that.

Classic and top 100 are not my style so [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] is actually my favorite on your list. Floral, feminine and unique. I don’t think it sounds juvenile and I think it would work fine on an adult woman.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] the suggested pairing of [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]. [name_f]Frances[/name_f] fits well with your sibset and [name_f]Kateri[/name_f] has such a beautiful and I bet relatively unknown backstory.

[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is my least favorite from your list. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not as interesting as the others.

[name_f]Kateri[/name_f] is such a gem. Really unusual and beautiful. I’d love to see it as the first or middle, it’s so special.

[name_f]Helen[/name_f] feels harsh and old to me but [name_f]Helena[/name_f] is refined and sophisticated. [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f] might be nice.

My fave is [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]. And like other people already mentioned, I really love [name_f]Helena[/name_f].

Each of your boys has a classic name with an m in it. [name_m]How[/name_m] about a similar theme for your little girl…[name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], Amarilla, [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f], [name_f]Camellia[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]…any of these sound good? I think [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] or [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] would be great middles! With [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] my personal favorites are:
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f], nn [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] or [name_f]Maisy[/name_f] or Mimsy
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] or Rosytoes
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - nn [name_f]Milly[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f]

Good luck and congratulations!

P.S. [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]/[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f] are really sweet yet spunky combos that sound great!

Thank you everyone! [name_f]Kateri[/name_f] was my grandmother’s name, so that’s as close as we are to agreeing on something family related.

My husband is really loving the “uncommon” names, and has been trying to get me to consider [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] and [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] as well. [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] sounds more like a middle name to me, but I think I could see it as a first name too. I’m not opposed to [name_u]Indiana[/name_u], but it’s a state name, and the pop culture connection to [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m]…hm.

I love [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] and think it would age well with it’s soft beauty sound. As for [name_u]Indiana[/name_u], maybe [name_f]Indira[/name_f] could be a compromise?

I love the name [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] but it seems way out there compared to your boys.
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] is beautiful and perfect!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] and PP suggestion of [name_f]Helena[/name_f]!

[name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and [name_f]Helen[/name_f] (or [name_f]Helena[/name_f] as suggested) all fit in beautifully with the names of your sons. [name_f]Kateri[/name_f] is also very pretty. I’m not sure about [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]–I personally don’t like it and it doesn’t seem to fit as well.

I like [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], and [name_f]Helen[/name_f]/[name_f]Helena[/name_f] best from your list and would put [name_f]Kateri[/name_f] or [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] in as mns.

Some other possibilities:

[name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], and

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Constance[/name_f] [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]

Maybe [name_f]Ziva[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f] or [name_f]Ziva[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Kateri[/name_f]?
