Tough last name to couple with

My boyfriend and I are expecting our baby boy in [name]November[/name] and since we found out I was pregnant names have always been the last thing we want to talk about. We discussed names early on once and came up with a decent name: [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Roland[/name], however BF was on the fence about [name]Isaac[/name] and I didn’t want to settle with a name he couldn’t see his son named. The reason for the reluctance to pick out names stems from BF’s last name, ---- (Please no jokes about not naming our son [name]Richard[/name] or [name]Duncan[/name], I’ve heard them all.) I never realized how hard it would be to pick out a name that couples with BF’s last name seamlessly and then to agree on a name we both can live with.

While this is BF’s first born, it will be my second so my son already has an older sister, [name]Samantha[/name] (we call her [name]Sam[/name] or [name]Sammy[/name] for short) and would perfer a name that also has a nickname that will couple with BF’s last name and flow smoothly with [name]Sam[/name]/[name]Sammy[/name] and (son’s name here). I’m not so worried about initals and what letter the name starts with. Really not being picky. I just need help finding a name that is suitable. Middle names are welcomed and appreciated!!

Thank you in advance for helping.

I don’t have a real firm idea of what your style is, so based on your daughters name and what you’ve considered:
[name]Jonathon[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Eli[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Levi[/name]
[name]Joel[/name]
[name]Liam[/name]
[name]Asa[/name]
[name]Ian[/name]
[name]Axel[/name]
[name]Anderson[/name]

I hope this helps and I hope you find a name you both love!

With references to [name]Richard[/name] and [name]Duncan[/name], I’m guessing the last name’s K1ng? If so’ I’d avoid [name]Isaac[/name] for the back to back ‘k’ sounds, and also it sounds like “I’s a king” - where I’m from, using I’s instead of I’m is pretty common slang.

If I’m right on your surname, then I’d avoid royal names - in class registers it’s often written Surname Firstname, so it would read as K1ng [name]George[/name] instead of [name]George[/name] K1ng or whatever. So I’d say [name]George[/name], [name]William[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Charles[/name], [name]Edward[/name] etc are all out. Oh, and I’d keep away from [name]Joe[/name] and his longer variants too - it would read as the word joking. And [name]Mark[/name] (marking) and [name]Jack[/name] (jacking off was high school slang for masturbation).

If you like [name]Isaac[/name], maybe you’d like [name]Zachary[/name]? Still gets you the same [name]Zac[/name] nickname, but has a better flow with your boyfriend’s surname.

Or how about:

[name]Nathan[/name]
[name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Jonathan[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Matthew[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Jacob[/name]/[name]Jake[/name]
[name]Lewis[/name]/[name]Louis[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]

When she first posted it, she included the last name. I guess she edited for privacy? I hope she doesn’t mind me saying, but it’s not K1ng. It’s the name of the part of your body that sits atop your neck.

Oh, sorry. The [name]Shakespeare[/name] fan in me was just thinking of [name]King[/name] [name]Richard[/name] and [name]King[/name] [name]Duncan[/name]. In which case, with the new surname, most of my previous post doesn’t apply, except for the suggestions list. Oh, and [name]Noah[/name]'s presence on it - [name]Noah[/name] wouldn’t really work with any body part surname due to if it gets shortened in the playground to No. No Foot, No Hand, etc.

And sorry if this seems ignorant, but how exactly does [name]Duncan[/name] not go with that surname? [name]Richard[/name] I get, but I can’t work [name]Duncan[/name] out. Is it because it can sound like dunking?

Are the -rick/-ric names out for you as well? [name]Fredrick[/name], [name]Alaric[/name], [name]Ulric[/name] etc?
Presumably all [name]William[/name] derivatives are off as well?

[name]How[/name] about:
[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Theo[/name], [name]Teddy[/name] and [name]Thor[/name]?
[name]James[/name]/[name]Jameson[/name] nn [name]Jamie[/name] and [name]Jay[/name]
[name]Edwin[/name] nn [name]Eddy[/name] or [name]Teddy[/name] or [name]Win[/name]
[name]Davenport[/name] nn [name]Dave[/name] or [name]Port[/name]/[name]Porter[/name]
[name]Evander[/name] nn [name]Evan[/name]
[name]Alfred[/name] nn [name]Al[/name] or [name]Fred[/name] (might not be great if the kid blushes easily but then [name]Red[/name] Head might not be avoidable and really isn’t that bad)
[name]Jasper[/name] nn [name]Jazz[/name]

Congrats and I hope these help.

[name]Justin[/name]
[name]Jason[/name]
[name]James[/name]

[name]Mason[/name]
[name]Wesley[/name]
[name]Jacob[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Rhett[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Sullivan[/name]
[name]Sylvester[/name]
[name]Riley[/name]
[name]Javier[/name]
[name]Zachary[/name]

That’s what I guessed when I first read the post, too. shrug

Anyway, I really think almost any name would work (with the exception of [name]Richard[/name] and a few others). It’s just a somewhat unfortunate last name. Kids are going to think it’s a little silly regardless of the first name. [name]Just[/name] pick something you love that fits the style of [name]Samantha[/name]/[name]Sammy[/name] - nothing too unusual, nothing too modern nor too old-fashioned, and something with a nickname option would be nice. What about [name]Nicholas[/name] (nn [name]Nick[/name], [name]Nico[/name], [name]Cole[/name]) or [name]Benjamin[/name] (nn [name]Ben[/name], [name]Benji[/name])?

I knew someone very dear with this last name, who carried it well, his first name was [name]Thomas[/name]. I think [name]Thomas[/name] pairs nicely with [name]Samantha[/name] - Biblical ties (there’s not a Biblical [name]Samantha[/name], but it’s Hebrew and relates to [name]Simon[/name] and [name]Samuel[/name]), some of the letters are the same, and [name]Tom[/name] and [name]Sam[/name] / [name]Tommy[/name] and [name]Sammy[/name] are cute.
