I have always really liked the name [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] as a first name, I know it’s fairly common, but it just seems like a grounded classic name.
I’m looking to honour my grandmother but her name is [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]-Greek heritage. The EE sound of the two names together at the end sounds a bit weird, what do other Berries think?
I thought maybe change it to the Spanish version [name_f]Elena[/name_f], but then the pronunciation seems to be E lay na (like [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] which I’m not so keen on) rather than [name_f]Elen[/name_f] na, which I really like. So I’m not sure, which combo sounds the best and why?
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] (but [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] seems even more popular than [name_f]Sophie[/name_f])
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] (isn’t an honour name, but I still like it.)
My vote is for [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - I just seem to stumble over the others when I try to say them. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is such a close match with your honour name too, but shouldn’t cause any pronunciation problems
I’m Greek, and I know a lot of Elenis who go by [name_f]Elena[/name_f] pronounced [name_f]Elen[/name_f]-na. Very common variation of the name and it’d be a fine honor name for an [name_f]Eleni[/name_f], if not the most obvious choice after [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] itself.
I like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f]. It is still clearly an honor name, but flows a little better and has a beautiful, classic sound.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]/ [name_f]Elena[/name_f] would be my favorite. While I don’t love the 2 -ee sounds right behind eachother, I’m always team honor over flow. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] also isn’t as bad because of [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] being 3 syllables.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] are beautiful too.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is lovely. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f], pronounced as you prefer, sounds really nice too.
If you’re considering [name_f]Elena[/name_f], what about [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f]? [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Helene[/name_f]? Does the H stray too far from grandma for your tastes?
My favorite of your list is [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. If you want to keep a closer feel w/[name_f]Eleni[/name_f], what about [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Elen[/name_f]?
I absolutely adore [name_f]Eleni[/name_f], so my vote goes for [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]. For what it’s worth, I don’t know any Sophias, but I know quite a few Sophies.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] sounds beautiful, very light and musical. If you like the original honour name, I’d keep things simple and use it as is. It’s a lovely combo!
Thanks so much Berries really appreciate your advice. Yes starting to think the combo with the honour name sounds really nice. Might take it to a proper poll.
