I haven’t heard this being used at all around here (Midwest US) but I think it’s really cute. Are you going to use it on its own, or as a nickname?

[name]Hi[/name]!

I had to comment because [name]Birdie[/name] is the nickname my parents use for me - my name is [name]Lauren[/name]. I’ve never in my life met a girl named [name]Birdie[/name], nor heard of another with that nickname (I’m also from Midwest USA).

So, if you want to use it as a first name, I think you are safe. Honestly, though, I’m really glad [name]Birdie[/name] isn’t my “real” first name. As much as I love that my parents have this special pet name for me, I’m glad I have a more ‘professional’ or respectable name to use in more professional or academic settings. [name]Just[/name] a personal preference…

Good luck!

I would definately use it as a first name. Middle name - I’m still undecided. Big brother is [name]Otto[/name], and we didn’t decide on that name until close to delivery. Thanks for the replies!!

[name]Hi[/name]!

I actually think [name]Otto[/name] and [name]Birdie[/name] are pretty cute together, to be honest. I think [name]Otto[/name] has much more strength and professionalism than [name]Birdie[/name], which is sweet and playful, but I can’t say anything too terrible about [name]Birdie[/name] because I adore that it is my nickname!

Two others you may like are [name]Nixie[/name] ([name]German[/name], “snowy”) and [name]Romy[/name] ([name]German[/name], “rosemary”).

Take care!

Many common names were once nicknames. This is one that (I expect) is mainly still a nickname, often unrelated to the actual name. I haven’t heard it mentioned often, and I don’t expect it to be the next big thing.

i know a girl names burdie…pronounced birdie, her real name is burdetta
