trendy vs classic

i find myself struggling between my heart and my head with girls names. my heart is obsessed with more trendy, unisex names like: quinn, emerson, anniston, grey and piper. but my practical brain thinks they might get too dated and i should go with more classic names like: charlotte, amelia, and caroline which i think are absolutely beautiful but maybe a little boring? any nameberry advise or opinions are greatly appreciated!

Classics are classics because they’re just that- Classic. I don’t find them boring, but to each their own. I like trendy names- they’re trendy for a reason, but I do agree, they could easily go out of style. I would go with your heart. You have to love the name!

Could you go with a currently “in” name that also happens to be classic? [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Cora[/name], [name]Oliver[/name] etc? Something that is accepted and used a lot by todays parents but still have roots in years past.

My baby girl is named [name]Emerson[/name], so I am biased, but I think unisex trendy names are just more fun.

I think this is a good suggestion and middle ground. I personally prefer classics and don’t find them boring at all. I think they are refreshing. I think both styles have their merits though!

I lean toward less common classics. Most of the names in my siggy are like that ([name]Serena[/name] being a good example). A lot of them also have a slightly modern feel.

I like PP’s idea of the “trendy classics” - the names that have been around for a long time but have recently gained even more popularity. Names that come to mind in that group would be:
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Grace[/name]
[name]Emma[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Vivian[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]

You could use one in the fn and the other in the mn spot. Maybe call her by the trendy name if you prefer it but she’d have the option to switch to the classic name if it better suits her career path.

[name]How[/name] about going more vintage?

[name]Cora[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Hattie[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]

[name]Just[/name] a few examples

I like certain classic names but I find most of them plain, boring, and overused. I don’t care for trendy names either. I usually don’t like common/soon to be common names. For me, when I hear a name in use over and over again it usually turns me off from it. I do like some though(like [name]Emerson[/name], [name]Grey[/name], & [name]Piper[/name]). I would just go with what your heart wants. Trendy doesn’t equal bad. Some of the trendy names are pretty nice. I’m sure all of those “classic” names were once trendy way back when at some point.

I’ve never been fond of many of the trendy names. But I do struggle with the balance between more regular classics and rare names.

I’d suggest finding a slightly more classic name that has a trendier nickname or vice versa.

Always, always go with your heart unless your heart is telling you to name her “[name]Misty[/name]” lol. No offence to any [name]Misty[/name]'s out there.

[name]How[/name] about a unisex name like [name]Sasha[/name]? From the very classic [name]Alexandra[/name]…
I am sure you’ll find a name that ticks all boxes!
