Trice vs. Trix

I have a dilemma choosing between [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. I absolutely adore both of them, and the vibes they give off.

To me, [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is pastels and lace. A [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] would probably write her lower case i with a heart or something. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is more of a metal studs, and neon purple sort of name. I imagine a [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] would like more edgy music. Plus, [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] lends itself to the awesome nickname Bex.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you get different vibes from the names? Which do you prefer, and why?

I have the same dilemma! They’re both such excellent names. I’ve had [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] in my top ten forever, but lately I’ve been editing footage of Much [name_f]Ado[/name_f] About Nothing and it’s making me lean towards [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].

I definitely get different vibes from the names, though not quite as extreme as yours. To me, [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is a fresh lemonade sort of name. It’s girly, but it has a sassy kick to it. I picture a [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] as charming and genuine, outdoorsy and kind.

If [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] goes on nature walks, [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] hikes the Appalachian [name_m]Trail[/name_m]. It’s an extreme kind of name–still feminine, but for me the X just oozes fun.

Yeah- I feel like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] has this sense of MORE. More color, more flavor.

I love girls names with a bit of edge, so I definitely prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] (super awesome nickname [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]), whereas [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] has a much softer vibe.

[name_m]Both[/name_m] are great.

[name_m]Both[/name_m] are beautiful. It is hard to choose which one I like best.

I prefer [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] because it has a softer feel to it and that’s generally what I look for in a name.

I love the spunky feel of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] best.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately because [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is a top contender for us if our next baby is a girl. For me though, [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] feels like the stronger choice.

Although X is a strong letter, it gives [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] a playful, almost flightly feel. It doesn’t feel as grounded for some reason. I think to me the -trix version is synonomous with [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], so i only have the image of petticoats and watercolours and cutesy stories of kittens and puddle ducks. A [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is very concerned with prettiness. On a practical note, i’d fear that a [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] would spend her whole life saying "no, its not [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]…

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], on the other hand, is a girl who gets things done. She doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty or being seen without her makeup on. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is more womanly somehow, to me anyway.

So for me its got to be [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but i’d use nn [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] though. I think if i wanted an edgier variation, i’d look at [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f].

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] reminds me of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] - water colors, farmyards, … [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] reminds me of the red-head, spunky princess

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]

[name_f]Trix[/name_f] are for kids is all I can think about when I see [name_f]Trix[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].

This has been my dilemma for a while now too! I think I’m leaning towards [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] - I know a lot of people don’t like it, but I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the nickname [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] (I was a big [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] [name_m]Belden[/name_m] fan ;)). I also love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] (although would it be weird? - my name is [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] Puddle Duck is a prominent [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] character… ok, now I’m rambling, sorry).
Also, I slightly dislike the way that [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is literally ‘beat rice’ (although that’s not really a problem).
I love both! Sorry I’m so useless!

I love them both and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with either choice, but I much prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].

I see them pretty much the same way you do- [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is elegant and proper and dainty, [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is artsy and spunky and fun. [name_m]Both[/name_m] have royal connections- more than one British princess named [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], including [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]'s youngest daughter, who is one of my favourite historical royals, and former [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] of the Netherlands (now [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]). I prefer the Victorian [name_f]England[/name_f] noblewoman vibe of [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] though.

It seems like most of us are in the same boat, torn between the two. I’m not really ready to let either of them go yet, so I’ll just keep tinkering with the two of them for a while longer.

Thanks for all of the input everyone.
