Tried in reg names forum, but is a boy question, so trying again

[name]Hi[/name] all, I am new here and need help! My DF and I are expecting in [name]May[/name], gender still unknown… We agreed an a girl’s name almost immediately ([name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Rae[/name]) but can not come up with a boys name. We both have a child from previous relationships that live with us. [name]Madalyn[/name] [name]Reid[/name]-10 and [name]Charles[/name] [name]Edgar[/name]-6. We have agreed the middle name will be [name]Ray[/name] after my father and brother. I have suggested several names and he doesn’t like any of them, and is no help coming up with something else. I have become preoccupied with trying to come up with something we can agree on, but he seems to think we have plenty of time, and may not even need a boys name… Last name is [name]Wilson[/name]. Some boy names we have kicked around are:

[name]Elliot[/name]- one of my faves DF says no b/c he can only think of ET
[name]Felix[/name]- another fave, he says no b/c of “the cat”
[name]Jasper[/name], [name]Nico[/name], [name]Milo[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name]- I also love/really like but he doesn’t like, and with no explanation

[name]Declan[/name]- I suggested early on and he loves but I like it less and less

[name]Oliver[/name]- this wasnt shot down, but I am afraid it is too close to my name [name]Olivia[/name] wdyt?

Oh and 1 more thing, I would prefer something not in the top 100, but may consider if its not in the top 30 and trending down in popularity.

Well, [name]Oliver[/name] is a great name and I actually love that it’s close to your name. It does seem to be pretty popular but it’s so classic that I don’t think that matters. [name]Madalyn[/name] and [name]Charles[/name] are both well-established names, so [name]Oliver[/name] seems really appropriate next to them [name]IMO[/name]. Think of [name]Oliver[/name] Twist! Adorable! [name]Ollie[/name] [name]Ray[/name]!

[name]Sebastian[/name] is one of my favourite names and the more I say it aloud, the more my SO likes it, so maybe keep trying with those ones?

[name]Declan[/name] - very sweet, a recent nn I heard for this one in the blog was [name]Dex[/name], how cute would that be?

[name]Oliver[/name] - I would probably think that [name]Oliver[/name] was named after you, if that’s not a problem for you then go for it.

You’ve got some great names! I really like [name]Oliver[/name], it’s similar to [name]Olivia[/name] but that’s not such a big deal. I like all the names you mentioned, except [name]Declan[/name].

Thank you for the warm reception, so far I really like what I have seen of NB, everyone is welcoming and respectful when giving their opinions! I have added [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Simon[/name] and [name]Everett[/name] to the list to ask DF about, will have to see what he says. I saw someone just ask about [name]Huxley[/name] on another thread and I really like it, so I am going to run that by him too. Thanks much and keep on with the suggestions, we may eventually find something we can both agree on :slight_smile:

So he said no to [name]Oliver[/name] last night, because it is too close to my name :frowning: He does like [name]Simon[/name], so finally there is 1 name we both like, but I will have to toss it around for a couple of days before I know if it is “the one”. I’ll second (or third?) pp’s suggestion of [name]Desmond[/name]! [name]Lori[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Raymond[/name] as a middle is wonderful. I actually think it could work well as a first name option - nn [name]Ramie[/name]/Raymie? Or [name]Rayford[/name], nn [name]Rafe[/name]? Maybe not your style, but throwing it out there :wink:

I think that [name]Madalyn[/name] (though the spelling is trendy) and [name]Charles[/name] are both fairly classic names and not very out-there at all, so I’d be looking for something similar.

I think [name]Elliot[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name] would work wonderfully. As would [name]Oliver[/name], though if neither of you plan on going by a nickname you might want to avoid that due to potential confusion. I also love [name]Felix[/name], [name]Milo[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name], but I don’t think they’d fit as well in your sibset. Really, my top choice would be [name]Elliot[/name] as [name]Elliot[/name] [name]Ray[/name] flows the best to me.

TK & [name]Lori[/name]- Middle name will def. stay [name]Ray[/name], it is both my dad and bro’s middle name, so it means a lot to keep it, my dad almost cried when I told him that was my plan for boy or girl :slight_smile:

[name]Genevie[/name]- [name]Madalyn[/name]- I chose the name and had her when I was 19/20 (10 yrs ago) and I wanted to make sure it was pronounced correct, other spellings left family members saying mad-uh-line which annoyed me. Second her g-ma is [name]Marilyn[/name], so I liked that there was some tie to her name. I still love her name and like the spelling, even if y’s have become trendy…
Also no nicknames- I like to choose a name and use it, [name]Madalyn[/name] goes by her full name and I do as well, [name]Charles[/name] goes by [name]Charlie[/name] but is my step son so I had no say :frowning:

I love [name]Elliot[/name], it is my first choice, but I can’t get DF on board, all because he thinks he will want to put a light on his finger and do ET impressions to the baby…boys! [name]Jasper[/name] is my second, and he "just doesn’t like it :frowning:

[name]Dean[/name] is great but it is the last name of an ex fiance that my SO also knows so that name makes us think of him.

[name]Lewis[/name] is one I haven’t considered, I will have to mull it over, it may be one of those I fall in love with, but we will see.

I hope you’re not offended by the label “trendy”, I was just referring to it in it’s current sense. I like the tie between [name]Marilyn[/name] and [name]Madalyn[/name], actually :slight_smile: [name]Elliot[/name] is definitely a great fit, it’s a shame about the ET connection! I haven’t really seen the film the whole way through, so I didn’t even realise the connection myself. [name]Lewis[/name] isn’t a name I’d normally like, but I can really see it going with [name]Madalyn[/name] and [name]Charles[/name].
