Tristan or sebastian????????

hello, my husband and me are down to two names for our boy, due in [name_u]December[/name_u]…[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] or [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]? My husband thinks that [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] sounds too feminine, I don’t think it does…What does everyone think? Is [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] or [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] a cooler name? I can’t decide!!!

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is a little feminine. I would definitely go with [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m].

Definitely [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]! It’s a wonderful name. I don’t like [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] at all. I don’t think it’s necessarily feminine…it’s just very boring.

I adore [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]! So my vote goes to [name_u]Tristan[/name_u].

I actually really love both names and don’t find any feminine at all. I think both are masculine and perfect for boys. I love both equally to be honest, they’re actually both on my list, and are very usable for you in my opinion.

Neither are feminine. I prefer [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] just because it’s less popular (popularity doesn’t bother me at all though).

Great names! I would use [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] over [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] for that very reason, but it’s still a nice name. I see [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] as handsome and [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] as cute.

I prefer [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]. So classic and handsome.

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] are two of my favourite boys’ names!!! (see my favourites in signature) I find them both “dashing romantic hero” type of names, strong but soft, and with literary cred- Sir [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] in the Arthurian legends, [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] from Twelfth [name_m]Night[/name_m]. But of the two I prefer [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]- it just somehow seems more substantial.

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is definitely “cooler.”

Oh, this is difficult!! I think I slightly prefer [name_u]Tristan[/name_u].I just find it incredibly romantic and I picture a handsome man with great manners.but you can’t go wrong with either. And I don’t think either of them sounds feminine at all.

I prefer [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]. I don’t like the sound of [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]. I don’t think it matters which name is cooler. It’s about what name you prefer and which one will age better. He might think [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] sound feminine because of how close to sound it is to [name_f]Kristen[/name_f].

I prefer [name_u]Tristan[/name_u], I like the Arthurian connotation and it reminds me of Tristran [name_m]Thorn[/name_m] in [name_u]Neil[/name_u] Gaiman’s Stardust (who I believe was called [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] without the t in the movie adaptation). I associate [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] with the [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid, can’t help it!

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] has always been a favorite of mine. I love it

[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] for sure! It’s a great name, and I’ve always thought [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] sounds very feminine (probably because it’s my daughter’s best friend’s name).

Good luck!

I like both names, slightly prefer [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m].

I prefer [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]. It sounds more masculine. I have always found the name [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] to be a little more feminine sounding(maybe because it is very close to [name_f]Kristen[/name_f]).

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is a handsome name that always entrances me. It is unusual but with a strong classic feel on the other hand [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] is a ‘look at me’ name, handsome and compelling but I am not in love with the nn’s.

[name_m]How[/name_m] I pronounce it, [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is very close to [name_f]Kristen[/name_f], that’ why it sounds a bit more feminine to me. But I like [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] more anyway.

I love both names…but would never consider “[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]” seriously for my own child, only because of the Latinate meaning (from the Latin “tristis” meaning sorrowful, sad…and it translates into all the modern Romance languages as such; ie. “[name_f]Triste[/name_f]” in Spanish). Still has that [name_m]Brad[/name_m] [name_m]Pitt[/name_m] burnish from Legends of the Fall–even so, [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] gets my vote!
