Trouble with a boy name

My husband and I are both coming up empty for a boy name. Would anyone like to help? Below is sort of a short list, but nothing is really standing out as the right choice. It gives you an idea of the types of names we like though.

[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name]
[name]Grant[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Christian[/name]

My husband also likes [name]Victor[/name] and [name]Gavin[/name], both of which I dislike quite a bit. Similarly, I like [name]Thomas[/name] and [name]Charles[/name], which he dislikes.

We settled on a girl choice quickly and easily, but just cannot come up with a boy option at all!

Does anyone have some boy suggestions?

[name]Julian[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name]! <3 It’s perfect, I love Julian and Nicholas is a great middle name

I agree with you by the way; Thomas is a great name!

[name]Patrick[/name] is a great name. [name]Patrick[/name] [name]Thomas[/name].

I second the [name]Patrick[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] suggestion. Very classic name, but without pretension, and with a lot of character.

[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Grant[/name] and [name]Julian[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] sound nice to me! Other ideas…

[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Spencer[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]/[name]Myles[/name] (nn [name]Milo[/name])
[name]Conrad[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Lincoln[/name]
[name]Garrett[/name]
[name]Colin[/name]
[name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Desmond[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Marshall[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Trent[/name] or [name]Brent[/name]
[name]Cyrus[/name]
[name]Bryce[/name]

It seems to me that you both like fairly well known, traditional names. Out of curiosity, what is the girl name you decided on? Know potential sibling names sometimes helps come up with ideas. Here are some that you might have overlooked:

[name]Jonathan[/name]
[name]Michael[/name] (so common it is usually overlooked, but it is a nice, strong name)
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Mark[/name]
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Reid[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]

Here are some more ideas.
[name]Tristan[/name]
[name]Martin[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name]
[name]Blaine[/name]
[name]Curtis[/name]
[name]Ian[/name]
[name]Wesley[/name]

Thank you! [name]Graham[/name], [name]Spencer[/name], and [name]Nolan[/name] have also been names that we’ve mentioned. Of those none are sticking out - except for maybe [name]Graham[/name] a bit.

Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks, everybody!

We do like traditional names and one “rule” is that it needs to not be too trendy, obscure, or trying too hard - if that makes sense.

I love all the suggestions! A lot we’ve talked about already and sort of ruled out for one reason or another. Some are relatives names, some one or both of us just don’t care for. My husband has a large family with literally dozens of cousins, so many, many names are off the table for us, unfortunately.

It makes me wonder if perhaps we’re having a girl since we can’t decide on a boy name at all  Or maybe this means we are absolutely having a boy and we better get on it

[name]Julian[/name] keeps coming up. We both like it a lot.

[name]Julian[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name]
[name]Julian[/name] [name]Christian[/name]
[name]Julian[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]

I also like [name]Nolan[/name] a lot (mentioned above), but when we’ve tossed it around hubby isn’t in love with it. I think [name]Nolan[/name] plays well with a lot of our other choices

[name]Nolan[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Nolan[/name] [name]Christian[/name]

I should also mention that one of our nephews is named a somewhat obscure Presidential surname as a first name. So, we’re trying to avoid going with a Presidential surname as first name as well. Although, we both do like [name]Truman[/name], [name]Grant[/name] (although it’s sliding for us), [name]Franklin[/name]…

It’s tough!

Our girl name is going to be [name]Grace[/name], middle is still in discussion. We are 100% sure about that. [name]Both[/name] loved it immediately and haven’t reconsidered at all.

[name]Grace[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Grace[/name] [name]Elise[/name]
[name]Grace[/name] [name]Maria[/name]
[name]Grace[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Maria[/name]

We’re also not finding out the gender, so our discussions can go one a long time  This is good and bad, ha ha!

Thanks for posting a response. It’s nice when the thread owner says what they think about the suggestions. I like seeing what you think you might go with! Good luck.

You do seem to like classics but with a slightly soft spin. [name]Julian[/name] does seem like a good companion name to [name]Grace[/name]. Some further ideas:

[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Louis[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name]
[name]Raymond[/name]
[name]Roman[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name]

We talked it over more this weekend and now are pretty set on [name]Julian[/name].

[name]Julian[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name]
[name]Julian[/name] [name]David[/name]

And I think [name]Grace[/name] [name]Victoria[/name], over [name]Grace[/name] [name]Maria[/name].

[name]How[/name] do those sound? I can’t find anything overtly objectionable about any of the combos - they’re established and classic names and also IMHO sound like nice people

[name]Julian[/name] [name]David[/name] is great and flows the best, imo. [name]Grace[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] is beautiful!!
