We still have a couple weeks before we find out if we are having a boy or girl but our name lists are getting shorter. Girls names are not problem, we pretty much have a consensus there. Boys on the other hand, are proving more difficult. I gave my wife a list of about 25 names I liked and she liked 3 of them. We also made the mistake of mentioning some of the names we are considering to family, and received some negative feedback, which is disheartening (we now are planning on keeping the final name choice a secret from family to avoid emotional issues) Here is a short list of current considerations (I added a few to my wife’s top three just in case). Middle name will likely be [name]Jeffrey[/name] and last name sounds like Kahr-rer. Opinions please. Other suggestions welcome as well
[name]Felix[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name] (our consensus fav, but my mother and sister expressed dislike
[name]Dominic[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name] (prob my fav, my mother doesn’t like)
[name]Nolan[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name]
[name]Owen[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name] (may be too popular)
[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name]
[name]Declan[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name]
[name]Everett[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name]
I like them all to be honest. [name]Don[/name]'t be too worried about their dislike, my mom hated my daughters name when we chose it… but it didn’t take long for her to admit its perfect and beautiful and fitting! All the names are strong. I am partial to [name]Owen[/name] and [name]Arthur[/name] - these are 2 of my personal favs!
[name]Don[/name]'t listen to your family, people have different tastes. Pick the name you and your wife love the best.
My favourites are [name]Dominic[/name], [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Arthur[/name]. [name]Everett[/name] is a lovely name, but it’s difficult with [name]Jeffrey[/name].
[name]Hi[/name],
It’s hard when others express dislike for a name you chose. Naming your child is such a personal choice though and you should go with what feels right to you.
I like [name]Felix[/name], it was on one of our lists too at one point but my husband was leery to use it because it was associated with a a cat
I also like [name]Dominic[/name]. Could have nn “DJ”. Very Italian or Spanish sounding.
[name]Nolan[/name] and [name]Owen[/name] are great names but yes very popular now. Same with [name]Declan[/name], it’s becoming increasingly popular.
[name]Arther[/name] is not really for me, but I like the nn “AJ”.
[name]Everett[/name], I really like [name]Everett[/name], it’s somewhat unique but not too popular.
[name]One[/name] of my favourite names is [name]Beckett[/name], similar to [name]Everett[/name]
You’ve picked some really great names, so don’t let your family get you down. Everyone has different tastes, and most people believe their tastes to be the true “good” or “normal”, whether consciously or unconsciously. They’ll come around once the name is on a real live human being - some names just take getting used to on a baby if they’ve only ever known elderly folks who bear it. [name]Felix[/name], [name]Nolan[/name], and [name]Arthur[/name] are the standouts for me, but [name]Everett[/name] (while a very lovely name) is really the only one that doesn’t work with [name]Jeffrey[/name] [name]IMO[/name]. Then again, it’s the middle, so don’t let that sway you if you and your wife can agree on it Good luck!
[name]Just[/name] out of curiosity, what’s the girl name you have picked out?
My favorites from your list are [name]Felix[/name], [name]Dominic[/name], and [name]Nolan[/name] with a slight preference for [name]Dominic[/name]. [name]Dominic[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name] “Kahr-rer” would be so handsome. The most important thing is to choose a name that you and your wife love and that you think your son will love as well.
Our girl name is currently;
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Jane[/name] or possibly [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Jane[/name] with the mn [name]Jane[/name] to honor my late grandmother [name]Janice[/name]
The reason we are going with [name]Jeffrey[/name] as a mn for a boy is to honor my FIL
I liked [name]Nolan[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name] and [name]Declan[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name] the best, but I didn’t hate a single one of those names.
I also went through a similar experience as you did with your family. I knew I was having a boy and they ripped apart over 50 names I had. I’d have a small of 8-15 names and one by one they’d ruin them for me, and it continued on and on until I finally got so angry and bitter about it that I picked a completely different name and wouldn’t share it with another soul on this planet until I had the baby. Which was a bit extreme but you’re smart to draw that line now before it gets worse. The only opinions that should weigh in are the parent’s choices.
I’m going to look forward to seeing which gender and which name you two pick out!
I wasn’t huge on [name]Jeffrey[/name] either but wife really wants to use her dad’s name and I think it actually has pretty good flow with a lot of names and it is kind of unique for a mn.
In addition to opinions on the names I listed, are there any other suggestions? [name]Leo[/name] is a name that is starting to grow on me as well.
Thanks again
[name]Felix[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name] - I do love this name but I think [name]Felix[/name] is a bit too unusual for a boys name
[name]Dominic[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name] - I like [name]Dominic[/name], especially if you come from Italian heritage. The nickname [name]Dom[/name] would be cute
[name]Nolan[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name] - I love this name! [name]Nolan[/name] is uncommon but familiar.
[name]Owen[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name] - I don’t particularly like [name]Owen[/name], partly because of the popularity and also because it just sounds awkward.
[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name] - I don’t like [name]Arthur[/name]. It seems a bit hipster-esque
[name]Declan[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name] - I love [name]Declan[/name]. It’s nice if you come from Irish descent
[name]Everett[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name] - I don’t like [name]Everett[/name], it seems girly to me
My favorite out of your names would be [name]Nolan[/name] [name]Jeffrey[/name]!
I really like [name]Felix[/name], [name]Nolan[/name], and [name]Owen[/name], but as I’m typing them I see how each one is increasingly higher up on the popularity charts. I don’t know how much that bothers you and your wife, but if you’re worried about it then I would say [name]Felix[/name] is your best choice out of those three.
Also, I obviously love [name]Dominic[/name] (my own son’s name) and I do think it sounds great with [name]Jeffery[/name], but it might be a problem with your last name. Again, I am only pointing this out to see whether or not it is an issue for you guys. The hard C at the end next to the K beginning of your last name kind of smush together and make it sound like “Dominicahrer” instead of [name]Dominic[/name] ‘Kahrer’. Good luck! =]
I love [name]Nolan[/name] [name]Jeffery[/name]! [name]Nolan[/name] is on my list but my husband likes other names more so unfortunately I don’t think we will end up using it. We are also having a much harder time thinking of and agreeing on boys names, good luck!
