Our last name is really hard to match with many names! [name]One[/name] syllable starts with “RE” which rules out names like [name]HenRY[/name], [name]AveRY[/name], and pretty much all one syllable names.
So far the only boy name we both love is [name]Oliver[/name], but I’ve gotten a couple of comments that it sounds harsh with our last name. Opinions?
[name]Oliver[/name] would be tough to pair with a surname beginning in R, as they’d run into each other.
Your last name would be perfect will either a name ending in a vowel (especially an O-- think about how [name]Milo[/name] [name]Reed[/name] sounds) or a nice smooth sound, like [name]Merrill[/name] ([name]Merrill[/name] [name]Reed[/name]), [name]Ennis[/name] ([name]Ennis[/name] [name]Reed[/name]) or [name]Lionel[/name] ([name]Lionel[/name] [name]Reed[/name]) or something like that.
What’s your style like? We could definitely come up with some suggestions. You’ll have lots of options.
I like [name]Milo[/name], I also like older names and I don’t like surnames. We haven’t really found THE NAME, it seems like there is something wrong with all of them. There are plenty more I like but my husband doesn’t. Besides [name]Oliver[/name], right now we are thinking about:
[name]Keagan[/name] (boring?)
[name]Milo[/name] (husband’s name is [name]Michael[/name], too close?)
[name]Lucas[/name] (too popular)
[name]Owen[/name] (my aunt’s married name…is that weird?)
[name]Eli[/name] (don’t want to use [name]Elijah[/name] because we know too many, too short as a stand alone?)
[name]Eliot[/name]
[name]Blaise[/name] (it means stutter)
[name]Marcus[/name] (boring?)
[name]Albin[/name] (not sure about this one, thoughts?)
[name]Atticus[/name] (too harsh and long?)
[name]Mathias[/name] (too long? don’t like nn [name]Mat[/name])
I love the way [name]Marcus[/name] [name]Reed[/name]/[name]Reeves[/name]/etc. sounds. Very masculine, but soft, but also storied and macho in a [name]Roman[/name] kind of way. [name]Marcus[/name] is a love of mine that I can’t use because our last name starts with S, so I feel your pain. [name]Elliot[/name] is another one I love that’s still on my list – one of the few that sound okay with our long, rhymey last name.
If you think [name]Marcus[/name] and [name]Keagan[/name] are too boring, I’ll throw the name that my husband lobbied for with our first son: [name]Maximus[/name] (he’s a fan of all things Ancient [name]Rome[/name]). [name]Maximus[/name] [name]Reed[/name] certainly isn’t boring, sounds great and authoritative but also fun, and has quite a personality behind it.
[name]Keagan[/name] - a bit boring, [name]IMO[/name].
[name]Milo[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this. Not too close to [name]Michael[/name]. It’s so smooth and cool. It just rolls off your tongue.
[name]Lucas[/name] - Too popular
[name]Owen[/name] - I find this a bit strange unless you’re honoring your aunt but I also find it too popular.
[name]Eli[/name] - I can’t see it as a full name, it’s a nickname to me. I prefer [name]Elijah[/name].
[name]Eliot[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this. I would spell it [name]Eliott[/name] because [name]Eliot[/name] seems incomplete. [name]Eli[/name] could be a good nickname for [name]Eliott[/name]!
[name]Blaise[/name] - I don’t see this as a name. It seems almost fictional. Also, I don’t like the meaning.
[name]Marcus[/name] - I find this a bit dated. It seems like the name of a middle aged man, not quite vintage yet.
[name]Albin[/name] - Never heard of this one…a bit strange to me.
[name]Atticus[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this, great connotation, not too harsh, would sound great with a one-syllable last name.
[name]Mathais[/name] - I feel like it would get shortened to [name]Matt[/name].
I like [name]Milo[/name], [name]Eliott[/name], and [name]Atticus[/name].
