So, [name]Lux[/name] - we both really like it but it just doesn’t fit with his last name. [name]Lux[/name] Pancrazio… it’s clunky and heavy and a little depressing. I can’t imagine saying it to an actual human in any tone. We both tried saying it in many different ways and it just sounded worse every time. He suggested hyphenating it. I don’t typically like double-first names, but I can really see the point here. I don’t want to just let it go and I don’t want it to be a middle name that’s only heard when she’s blatantly disobedient.
I’ve only come up with a few so far, and none of them feel quite right. We want to keep [name]Lux[/name] in front because people tend to say the name that comes first, but everything I’ve thought of puts [name]Lux[/name] after the hyphen:
I also tried looking for logical “full names” for [name]Lux[/name]. Nothing to write on the birth certificate and then ignore, but names that we truly love that [name]Lux[/name] might naturally pop out of. We really didn’t love anything I found and most of them had obvious nicknames.
What do you think of the name [name]Lux[/name]? [name]How[/name] do you think it sounds with Pancrazio? Can you think of a hyphenated name, “full name”, or any other solution?
That’s a tough one! All my combos ended up sounding like appliances (sorry!) so I’m thinking on full names nn [name]Lux[/name]. I don’t think [name]Lux[/name] sounds bad with your surname, but I do like it better w/ a full name.
Luxie Pancrazio somehow makes all the difference to my ear.
[name]Lennox[/name]
[name]Alexandra[/name]
[name]Bellatrix[/name]
Or a fn-mn combination:
[name]Luna[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] Pancrazio
[name]Luna[/name] [name]Xanthe[/name] Pancrazio
I actually don’t think it’s that bad, [name]Lux[/name] Pancrazio, sounds pretty Italian but not in a negative way or anything. I think [name]Lux[/name] is so interesting, and I’d be excited to meet a little [name]Lux[/name]. I really wouldn’t worry about hypenating another name because if you love [name]Lux[/name] so much even if you choose [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Lux[/name], I bet you will still end up calling her just [name]Lux[/name] because generally all names are shortened. Also, when you are calling [name]Lux[/name] you aren’t often going to be calling her by FN/LN in the home, at the shops or the park etc.
I think [name]Lux[/name] and a middle name would obviusly break it up from the last name:
[name]Lux[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] Pancrazio
[name]Lux[/name] [name]Adele[/name] Pancrazio
[name]Lux[/name] [name]Imogen[/name] Pancrazio
[name]Lux[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name] Pancrazio
You could always use [name]Alexandra[/name] and nickname her [name]Lux[/name]? I know it would normally be [name]Lex[/name] but I don’t see why [name]Lux[/name] wouldn’t work. Or any name beginning with ‘[name]Luc[/name]’ so [name]Lucienne[/name], [name]Lucretia[/name], [name]Lucia[/name]? If people can use [name]Jackson[/name] nn [name]Jax[/name] then why not [name]Lucienne[/name] nn [name]Lux[/name]?
[name]IMO[/name] [name]Lux[/name] is an awkward name in general. It doesn’t fit well in many places, expect maybe the middle where it is really heard. I would say look into new first name alternatives and you can call her by her first/middle rather than having a hyphenated name.
Thank you for replying! I’m sorry to make everything more difficult, but we can’t use any kind of [name]Alexandra[/name]/[name]Alexandria[/name], [name]Alexis[/name]/[name]Alexa[/name] names. I forgot to mention that.
[name]Luna[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Luna[/name] [name]Xanthe[/name], and [name]Lux[/name] [name]Imogen[/name] are great! I love [name]Bellatrix[/name] too, but he can’t get past [name]Bellatrix[/name] Lestrange. [name]Lucienne[/name] is adorable, but he insists there would be some sort of family issue.
I don’t think hyphenation would be the best route to go. Out of your choices though, I like [name]Celia[/name]-[name]Lux[/name] the best.
Some names you might like instead of [name]Lux[/name]:
[name]Luz[/name] (Similiar to [name]Lux[/name], but sounds better with the last name)
[name]Rue[/name] (It seems you like short names)
[name]Lennox[/name] (Close to [name]Lux[/name], but a little more name-like)
[name]Luna[/name] (It’s on your list, just don’t hyphenate it)
I think Luxanne was a good suggestion - it’d sound familiar enough due to the similarity to [name]Roxanne[/name].
Also, I have to mention that the title of this thread IMMEDIATELY got [name]Kelly[/name] Clarkson’s “The Trouble With [name]Love[/name]” stuck in my head. lol
We seriously considered [name]Lux[/name] for our daughter but like you, I had a hard time actually seeing it on a human! So I completely sumpathize with your feelings.
That said, I think that it actually works very, very well with your last name. I think with such an italian last name it makes [name]Lux[/name] sound like it belongs - does that make sense? And of course you can give a more traditional middle name in case she wants options when she gets older.
Plus, putting it in the middle does run that risk of making any name sound like an appliance, as a previous poster noted (darn you, Electrolux!)
I would use [name]Lux[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] (I love love love [name]Ramona[/name]).
The only full name I know of for [name]Lux[/name] is [name]Pollux[/name] ([name]Pollux[/name] and [name]Castor[/name] are the names of the twins in the [name]Gemini[/name] constellation), but [name]Pollux[/name] is all boy to me. I know this doesn’t help, but [name]Pollux[/name] Pancrazio sounds great to me.
I’m not a fan of the name [name]Lux[/name], but if you want to use it, maybe it could be as a nickname for [name]Lucille[/name], [name]Lucinda[/name], [name]Lucy[/name] or [name]Lucia[/name].
Up until recently, I used to really dislike [name]Lux[/name]. Now, I think it’s a gorgeous, strong and spunky little thing, and in my opinion, [name]Lux[/name] Pancrazio sounds brilliant!
I think the best full name for [name]Lux[/name] as nickname would be [name]Lucia[/name], or, as others have mentioned [name]Luna[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] “[name]Lux[/name]”.
Thank you so much for your insight! [name]Luna[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] is on the list as its own name now. I guess first and last names aren’t said together as often as I thought. I tend to forget that the first-middle-last thing is really only for us and it really isn’t as clunky as it sounded yesterday.
Combinations we love:
[name]Lux[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] Pancrazio
[name]Lux[/name] Galilei Pancrazio
[name]Lux[/name] Ophélie Pancrazio
I actually think [name]Lux[/name] sounds really great with your last name. [name]Lux[/name] is so lovely. Have you thought about hyphenating your surnames? I don’t really like [name]Lux[/name] tacked on the end of a double barrel name TBH. [name]Freya[/name]-[name]Lux[/name] is my preference, though, if I had to choose. [name]Lucasta[/name] is the only really [name]Lux[/name] variant that I can think of at the moment that isn’t your typical [name]Luc[/name]- name.
I to be honest think that that last name is completely fine with [name_f]Lux[/name_f]. The reason I think this is because 1st of all its a last name to me it doesn’t matter its not like people are going to say her first and last name every time that they call for her and 2nd of all one day she is probably going to get married and then that last name will be gone so it really doesn’t matter at all what so ever
I think [name_f]Lux[/name_f] sounds perfectly fine with your last name. [name_u]Love[/name_u] your combo of [name_f]Lux[/name_f] [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] Pancrazio.
