Trouble with Middle Names

Hello again,

I am still fairly newly pregnant, but already thinking hard about baby names. My kids are [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Morris[/name_m], and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]. I don’t know the gender, but won’t be finding out until birth, so I need to have a short list ready for each  My hubby is convinced it’s a girl, but who knows!

We also have a couple of ‘rules’ we’d like to stick with- no repeating first letters (so no L, M, S, O or H) and three syllables if possible.

All of the middle names have been family names, and I want to continue. I want to name the baby after my grandmother [name_f]Edith[/name_f].

If the baby is a boy, we’re really loving [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. I have wanted a [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] for so long, and it really feels right this time. I had been thinking [name_m]Edward[/name_m] (for [name_f]Edith[/name_f]), but [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] seems strange to me. My second choice right now is [name_m]Winston[/name_m], and I think [name_m]Winston[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] works. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any suggestions for another middle or does [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] work?

If the baby is a girl, our current favorite is [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. I love it’s meaning, and have loved it for a long time. I did find in the past that others didn’t love it, but I think I’m over that now  I also really like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], but my hubby is not so sure. But [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f] or [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f] doesn’t seem quite right to me. I ‘could’ use her middle name which was [name_u]Marion[/name_u] and call her [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_u]Marion[/name_u], but I would so love to use [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. To really show it’s for my nanny

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Sorry for the long post

You have lovely taste in names!

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] works, it’s maybe a little cumbersome but not overly unwieldy. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Edison[/name_m] perhaps? I quite like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]!

I love [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] but it doesn’t work with [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u] perhaps? I’ve considered using [name_u]Eden[/name_u] after my grandma (also an [name_f]Edith[/name_f]). If you’re set on [name_f]Edith[/name_f], it does work well with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]!

Would hubby like [name_f]Adelaine[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f] better? It has a bit of a softer feel.

I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] works fine. I actually really like it! My grandfather, whom I never met, was [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and I’d love to use it as a first name but I don’t like the nicknames [name_m]Ed[/name_m] or [name_m]Eddie[/name_m]. I don’t mind [name_m]Ned[/name_m] but I don’t love it. My grandfather went by [name_m]Ted[/name_m] - interesting how [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Edward[/name_m] both share a nickname! You could definitely call him [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as a child!

Go with [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] if you both love it. What about [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Edie[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f] works fine. I like the previous suggestion of [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u].

[name_m]Ted[/name_m] [name_m]Ned[/name_m] is what I think.

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]

I love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] for you! It was my first thought when I read your children’s name’s.

I agree that [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f] doesn’t have the best flow. What about…

[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]

They may not all have the best flow with [name_f]Edith[/name_f], but they’re what came to mind for me with your other kids.

Good luck!

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] sounds good. I prefer [name_m]Winthrop[/name_m] to [name_m]Winston[/name_m], though. Maybe [name_m]Winthrop[/name_m] [name_m]Edison[/name_m]?

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Edith[/name_f] both start with similar sounds, which I think gives kind of a tripping effect when you say them together. What about these:
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_u]Marion[/name_u] [name_f]Edith[/name_f] (to really honor your grandma!)
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Constance[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all the suggestions. I’ve been thinking that I really like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and possibly [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Edison[/name_m] too.

I guess the real dilemma is with the girls name. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is my current favorite, and I’m not sure whether to use [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_u]Marion[/name_u] or to try another name.

Some of your suggestions are on our list too:
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and…

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]- does ending with E cause the same problem?
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]- does that combo sound too old lady?
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]- I really love that name too
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]- our last name starts with R, and it sounds like a tongue twister
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]- I really like it too

Some of our other names:
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]/ [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]- too short?
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]- short?
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]

Thanks again!

[name_m]How[/name_m] could I forget? Another favorite name of ours is [name_f]Agatha[/name_f].

[name_f]Agatha[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
