Truly trying to make some progress....

So I am been bugging with names for a good month now. [name]Madeleine[/name] and [name]Myla[/name], [name]Sadie[/name] and [name]Cosette[/name]. [name]Remi[/name]. ANd still cant permanantly erase [name]Lucy[/name] just because I love it.

I think one of my problems has been trying to pick a name that matches [name]Celia[/name] when [name]Celia[/name] is probably not my usually style…more so just a name I have always loved in issolation. I am much more the [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Annie[/name], type. But… something in me is trying to find a style match and its hard when my true style is probably different…
My new strategy might be to start working on Middles are atleast sharing them so that I can maybe hear the bigger name and get more attached. I will take all the help you all are willing to give. Here are my name thoughts… I will start with the easiest to eliminiate.

[name]Lucy[/name]. For some reason I love it. But my last name is Lister making her a [name]Lucy[/name] Lister. It actually sounds cute to me but I have heard its porn starish. We cant have that. Ironically, My mom hates it but suggested [name]Lily[/name]. My husband is not in love with it but likes [name]Lylah[/name]. [name]Lylah[/name] Lister is much worse. Alliteration can work but maybe not with an L starting last name. So am I right [name]Lucy[/name] has to go? (so does [name]Lily[/name] and [name]Lylah[/name] biut I dont need help with those…)

Next up…[name]Myla[/name]! FOund it in my search for an M name. As some of you know, my husband would love an M. I like that its the feminine for [name]Miles[/name] which is one of our favorites for a boy. It rhymes with [name]Lylah[/name] so it sound make my husband happy not to mention he loves MY-bear as his nickname. but…it seems when I threw it out there people associated it with [name]Miley[/name]… I dont want a miley. So if [name]Myla[/name] is really that made up sounding…I probably will have to dismiss that. I do love [name]Myla[/name] [name]Rhodes[/name] Lister as her full name. Thoughts?

Next up…[name]Cosette[/name]
Cosi would be her short name atleast while she was little but I just cant commit because this name seems harsh…does it to you.

[name]Remi[/name]: You all surprised me with a thumbs up on this. I think its so cute but my husband says its the RAT. Which I realize it is. My best friend associates it with [name]Remy[/name] [name]Martin[/name] the alcohol so although I have support from strangers close people are dismissing the name…

[name]Sadie[/name]. I like it. its cute and that is probably my style. I like [name]Sadie[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name] but worry that it would just remind my husband we did not take [name]Madeleine[/name] as a first name. [name]Sadie[/name] [name]Shae[/name] is also cute to me as is [name]Sadie[/name] [name]Rhodes[/name]. The negative to [name]Sadie[/name] was that people said it sounded nick name-ish. Not sure that bothers me…I worry it sounds like a snobby girl. Does it?

This brings us to [name]Madeleine[/name]. So I really do like it and my husband did not question me with [name]Celia[/name]. If I pushed him on it we would be done because he probably would have agreed on it from the start. I like that its pretty but not overly flowery if you know what it means. What is holding me back is the popularity. I fear that [name]Madeline[/name] + [name]Madelyn[/name] + [name]Madeleine[/name] = [name]Isabella[/name] or [name]Emma[/name]. Although the first two spellings rank around 60 and [name]Madeleine[/name] is way down…together they become VERY popular. Is my thinking correct? My husband loves [name]Maddy[/name] and I like the sound of it too. I just cant imagine myself agreeing to it. I love [name]Emma[/name] and [name]Ava[/name] as well but would never consider them because of popularity. Am I right to be concerned.

BY the way… what does DH and DD stand for? Dying to know…
[name]Madeleine[/name] woudl be [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Grace[/name] or [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Soleil[/name] (my husbands favorite) But I would take more ideas…

Honestly, the only name on your list that I think truly matches the elegance and sophistication of [name]Celia[/name] is [name]Madeleine[/name]. Yes, it may be popular, and the commonness of [name]Madison[/name] and tryndeigh spellings do dull the name a little, but it’s a classic and has just as much of a history as [name]Celia[/name]. You could also do [name]Maddalena[/name], [name]Magdalen[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name], or [name]Amadea[/name] to get to the nickname [name]Maddy[/name] if that’s what draws you to the name.

[name]Lucy[/name] is my second favorite on your list. It’s classic, like [name]Celia[/name], and will age well. The only downfall is how it goes with your last name-- [name]Lucy[/name] Lister is far from ideal. I think it’s by far the best out of [name]Lily[/name], [name]Lila[/name], and [name]Lucy[/name], though. [name]Lila[/name] Lister is pretty awful. [name]Lucy[/name] Lister is doable, but I would say only if it’s the only thing you can agree on. Here’s a solution: use [name]Lucia[/name], or another longer form of [name]Lucy[/name] ([name]Lucienne[/name], [name]Lucille[/name]) with [name]Lucy[/name] as a nickname. [name]Lucia[/name] Lister is totally fine, and I like the alliteration. Although [name]Celia[/name] and [name]Lucia[/name] share a lot of sounds…

Sorry, I don’t have enough time to really comment on your other choices, but I don’t like them nearly as much as [name]Madeleine[/name] or [name]Lucy[/name]. [name]Sadie[/name] and [name]Remi[/name] are way too nicknamey for when she’s not a toddler, and [name]Myla[/name] Lister doesn’t sound good either. I also think it lacks the class that [name]Celia[/name] has.

Good luck!

DH = dear husband, DD = dear daughter. Okay, so first just want to comment on the [name]Madeleine[/name] popularity thing. Yes, it is very popular. You have every right to be concerned. The main problem is that there are many spellings, most of which are popular. Therefore, add all the spellings up and you get a name that would rank very highly. If you add up the top 4 spellings of [name]Madeleine[/name] ([name]Madelyn[/name], [name]Madeline[/name], [name]Madeleine[/name], and [name]Madelynn[/name]) the name accounts for 10,579 babies (that’s not including more obscure spellings like [name]Madaline[/name] and Madelyne) which would put the name around #12. Combined with the 15,000 babies named [name]Madison[/name], there are a lot of Maddys out there. So if you do love [name]Madeleine[/name], it’s still a beautiful name, but if the popularity is something your uncomfortable with, keep the above info in mind. Onto your other names…

[name]Lucy[/name] - [name]Lucy[/name] Lister isn’t all that bad. [name]Lily[/name]/[name]Lylah[/name] Lister would be worse. I don’t think it sounds porn-starrish at all actually. Are you not interested in any of the longer names? [name]Lucia[/name], [name]Lucille[/name], [name]Luciana[/name], etc? I understand if you just love [name]Lucy[/name] for it’s simple, sweet sound. But if you feel like it just doesn’t work and that later on it will cause you agony for choosing it, then it might be time to let this one go.

[name]Myla[/name] - [name]Myla[/name] [name]Rhodes[/name] Lister is very pretty. [name]Myla[/name] Lister is a bit trippy with the repeating "L"s but I don’t think its that bad that you need to strike the name. This sounds like the name you are most strongly connected to. I like it a lot and I think Mybear is so sweet. I personally don’t see any connection to [name]Miley[/name] [name]Cyrus[/name]. [name]Mila[/name] is a totally legitamite name (though prn. MEE-la) and [name]Myla[/name] is not that different from it. It doesn’t sound made up to me. This name seems like your best bet. It’s very nice with [name]Celia[/name].

[name]Cosette[/name] - [name]Cosette[/name] has always felt a little bit harsh to me. Cosi is adorable though. Have you considered [name]Cosima[/name]?

[name]Remi[/name] - I love this name! But if you’re DH, friends, etc aren’t into it then let it go.

[name]Sadie[/name] - [name]Sadie[/name] [name]Shea[/name] and [name]Sadie[/name] [name]Rhodes[/name] are both nice. I’m not the biggest fan of this name, mostly because I’m not really into nicknames-as-fullnames. But that’s just me. The name doesn’t sound snobbish to me at all. It sounds quite the opposite- sweet, vintage and kind of southern (a la [name]Sadie[/name] Hawkins).

I already commented to [name]Madeleine[/name] above. I think the fact that you can’t imagine yourself agreeing to the name means it’s not right for you. I think my favorite choice for you is [name]Myla[/name] [name]Rhodes[/name] Lister. It just seems to combine everything you want in a name- it begins with an “M”, it sounds good with [name]Celia[/name], it sounds fine with your last name and it has a light, girly sound. [name]Hope[/name] that helps!

Thanks for everyone’s replies… Im starting to truly go batty. For all you unpregnant ladies out there who just love names…you are smart. SO wise to get your name before the hormones come and mess up your thinking.

I forgot [name]Clara[/name] as a choice. I fear that one sounds snobby too. I think it matches the style of [name]Celia[/name] very well. My Husband likes it enough to keep it on a list, what ever that means… I dont have a middle for it though.

[name]Clara[/name] is great! [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Celia[/name] go very nicely together without being matchy (as long as you don’t mind matching first letters, I don’t, but some do). What would you use in the middle? [name]Clara[/name] [name]Rhodes[/name] is a little “r” heavy. [name]Clara[/name] [name]Sadie[/name] or [name]Clara[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name] would make use of names you already love. Are there any other family names you’d want to use? If not something one syllable like [name]Clara[/name] [name]June[/name] or [name]Clara[/name] [name]Paige[/name] would be sweet. Oh, and your DH can call her Clarebear. That’s what my Uncle calls my cousin [name]Clarissa[/name]. [name]Hope[/name] that helps!

Never mind, [name]Clara[/name]'s my favorite! It’s not snobby at all, and it sounds great with [name]Celia[/name]. I like the fact that they share a first initial but the names don’t sound similar at all. [name]Clara[/name] is a gorgeous name, and [name]Clara[/name] Lister sounds great. I love [name]Clara[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name]… what about:

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Vivian[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Lillian[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]

I think [name]Lucy[/name] Lister is ok. The real problem with your ‘L’ names isn’t just the ‘L’ alliteration, it’s the double alliteration. [name]Lucy[/name] and Lister contain ‘L’ and ‘S’ sounds in the same order, [name]Lila[/name] Lister has one too many 'L’s. [name]Lara[/name] Lister would be great, or [name]Leah[/name] Lister or something like that. BUT, I think [name]Lucy[/name] is really cute and [name]Lucy[/name] Lister sounds more like a comic book heroine than a porn star, imo.
[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Clara[/name] too. Not snobby at all!
Those are my faves.

Thanks for all the input. One of you were really right, Its the double l and s in [name]Lucy[/name] that must make it tricky. Finally, I get it.

[name]Regan[/name],

I agree with another poster who said that [name]Madeleine[/name] is really the only name on your list that matches the elegance and sophistication of [name]Celia[/name]. It’s romantic and sweet, yet still strong and elegant. However, the popularity is definitely an issue, especially since I sense that you are one that doesn’t really like popular names. If you called her [name]Madeleine[/name] and only [name]Madeleine[/name], that might be one thing, but [name]Maddie[/name] as a nickname takes it to a whole other level of popularity. [name]Madeleine[/name] is a gorgeous name, but the popularity is definitely something to keep in mind. I wouldn’t kick it off the list quite yet, but if you feel like you’re settling, I’d keep looking. [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Rhodes[/name] Lister is rather sophisticated, though…

As for [name]Lucy[/name] Lister, I wrote before that it really doesn’t bother me, and I definitely don’t get porn star from that! For one, I could never imagine a porn star having such a sweet classic name as [name]Lucy[/name], especially since [name]Lucy[/name] means “light” - it’s just such a pure name! Anyway, I understand that [name]Lucy[/name] and Lister both have strong L and S sounds, but it doesn’t bother me too much. [name]Lucy[/name] could be a nice middle name…

Which brings me to [name]Clara[/name], which I was thrilled to see once I went further down this thread! [name]Clara[/name] is elegant and sophisticated, classic and vintage, quirky and playful, and altogether not snobbish! I see [name]Clara[/name] as a dressed-up [name]Jane[/name], sweet and sassy yet wholesome and kind. [name]Clara[/name] is such a perfect sister to [name]Celia[/name]! The only issue I see is that [name]Clara[/name] (1) starts with a C like [name]Celia[/name], (2) ends in an A like [name]Celia[/name], and (3) has a prominent L in it like [name]Celia[/name]. However, [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Celia[/name] don’t sound too much alike to make it an issue, and [name]Clare[/name]-bear and [name]Celia[/name]-bear are adorable! It does bring up the question of what you might name future children, namely will you stay with the C’s? [name]Will[/name] future daughters need to be [name]Christiana[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] instead of [name]Margo[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name]? It’s a matter of preference, really, and I’m sure you can ponder that yourself.

As for middle names for [name]Clara[/name], you mentioned your husband likes [name]June[/name]. [name]Clara[/name] [name]June[/name] Lister is simply stunning in my opinion! [name]Clara[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name] Lister, too, is gorgeous. It would help to know what [name]Celia[/name]'s middle name is, but I think something as vintage as [name]Clara[/name] [name]Maude[/name] Lister to something as contemporary as [name]Clara[/name] [name]Bellamy[/name] Lister would be fantastic. There’s so much room to play with a great name like [name]Clara[/name]!

[name]Lemon[/name]

I was hoping you would chime in…and glad you saw my recent [name]June[/name] addition. He through me for a loop in liking that one. [name]June[/name], [name]Belle[/name], [name]Cate[/name] and [name]Bryn[/name] and in another bucket of one syllable names I like. I agree with you…about [name]Madeleine[/name]. IF we could just call her that, I think I would just enjoy the name and move on but my darling husband actually likes the [name]Maddy[/name] part more so I dont think that will work. I dont mind it only the popularity of it.

[name]Celia[/name]'s Middle name is [name]Kai[/name]. I swore I only liked one syllable middles and [name]Kai[/name] is my best friend’s nickname. My husband likes that it means ocean in hawaiian and really wanted a word-middle like that. He really was trying for sun. Perhaps [name]Soleil[/name]. That is how [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Soleil[/name] came about. Im not sure I can jump at that. I love [name]Shae[/name] as a middle but june is cute too. He really has me fooled with the whole “[name]June[/name] could be a good name with [name]Celia[/name] thing…” I have no idea how you pick a middle for [name]June[/name].

Last thing… I seem to like your taste…do you like [name]Clara[/name] or [name]Madeleine[/name] better?

Hm. [name]Clara[/name] or [name]Madeleine[/name]? Tough one, as both are gorgeous. But, I’m going with [name]Clara[/name]. It was on my own list for a while because [name]Clara[/name] [name]Barton[/name] was my idol growing up! Turns out her real name was [name]Clarissa[/name], but I don’t really care. [name]Clara[/name] just feels way more “vintage quirky” to me, and that’s what I like. [name]Madeleine[/name]'s been bitten by the popularity bug and it doesn’t feel as fun to me anymore, though I can’t deny that it is one of the prettiest, most versatile classics around.

PS [name]Clara[/name] [name]Soleil[/name] would be gorgeous, too, if [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Soleil[/name] doesn’t float your boat. Or is it the [name]Soleil[/name] thing that bothers you? If so, you could try [name]Marisol[/name], [name]Solana[/name], or even just [name]Sol[/name]. Also, [name]Surya[/name] is an [name]Indian[/name] name meaning “sun god” - another cool choice!
