I think both names fit but [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] is the stronger match. It follows a similar length, syllables, short vowel sounds and nickname just as your sons’ names do. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is also consistent with your choice of short stylish middle names. The visuals seem more natural too. I think it’s the sharp clean edges of Z, A and F compared to the round curve of the J. Overall, this combination follows a very tidy pattern in a very enjoyable way.
Thanks for the great feedback as always. We both like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] but we never gave it as much thought as did with some of our other names we like. What appeals to me about [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is, it’s simple, straightforward warmth and it also has a refined/classy feel to the name.
He prefers the [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] over the [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] combo but I can definitely see him warming to [name_m]Finnian[/name_m]. I think his concern is that maybe [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] doesn’t feel as ‘classic’ as [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and my partner’s taste is more conservative than mine, he isn’t keen on trendy names either. I did explain that [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] was the name of a Irish [name_m]Saint[/name_m]. So I do feel like, (perhaps not as obvious) it does have a similiar vibe to our other boys names?
It’s definitely a name combo that has sparked a bit of magic for me… I felt the same way with regards to Zachary’s name.
I have slight preference for [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] because I like the long name/nickname option.
I also think of [name_u]Jude[/name_u] in warm tones whereas [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] feels cool. I wonder if that’s what I’m noticing when I look across the two sibling sets and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] hits me as a slightly different vibe. There’s a crispness in your son’s names that [name_u]Jude[/name_u] doesn’t quite hold.
Some thoughts about style. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is certainly more familiar and British but I would struggle to classify it as a traditional or classic name because its usage has historically been at relatively low levels. Few Irish names have been ubiquitous enough to be considered classics but [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] is traditional from an Irish perspective, albeit with the anglicised spelling.
In any case, it sounds like both combinations are worth adding to your short list.
That is a good observation. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] does feel very British to me. Which isn’t a bad thing as I am British lol. But I agree it is very underused ( in terms of other names with a similiar vibe) and perhaps has not cement itself as a classic name. I think a lot of names I like are examples of this. [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] for instance, is another one I like with relatively low usage. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] hasn’t been as popular as a lot of the classic names due to the similarity to [name_m]Judas[/name_m]?
[name_m]Finnian[/name_m] feels cool and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] feels friendly. I think this could be the same for my other boys names perhaps? What I don’t want to happen is family/strangers think [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] is the odd man out. I guess this will happen regardless as I wish to use an uncommon(ish) name for a third. A third will be our last and so I want to be a little bit more adventurous
I’m big on cohesion though and that is greatly influencing my taste in names.
For the most cohesive I like [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] because it follows the pattern of the first name being longer and more syllables than the middle. It also means they all get 4 letter nicknames. I think it’s great actually!
I think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] fits more with the familiar classic theme, but it doesn’t have much of a obvious nickname, which makes me say [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] “Finn” works better with your boys.
They’re both beautiful (in a masculine way!), but I much prefer [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u] w/your crew. What about [name_u]Julian[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jude[/name_u]? I love that even more, & it fits in great. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.
Thanks I do like [name_u]Julian[/name_u] but my partner doesn’t sadly. And also I think my mum has a bad connection to the name too. I agree [name_u]Julian[/name_u] is a nice name though.
Loveeeeee [name_u]Jude[/name_u] ! I agree that [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] has better flow and style wise fits with his older brothers , but I still love [name_u]Jude[/name_u] on its own !
Loove Finniàn [name_u]Jude[/name_u] for you! [name_m]Zach[/name_m], [name_u]Alex[/name_u] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] are perfect, and Finniàn [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is so classy.
I actually agree with your partner! I think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is a better match for the classic [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] & [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], and “Zach, [name_u]Alex[/name_u], and Jude” sound great together. Personally I don’t care very much about matching syllables and number of letters – I tend to think more about the style/origin, and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is the better match on those fronts IMO.
