[name]Hi[/name]!

[name]Penelope[/name] is a fantastic name! Does she go by [name]Penelope[/name], or do you shorten it to [name]Poppy[/name] or [name]Penny[/name] or something? Is a nickname important to you or not?

[name]Beatrix[/name] - I love this name, and [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Potter[/name], but I don’t know if it is quite right next to [name]Penelope[/name]. [name]Penelope[/name] is all sophisticated and elegant and soft, whereas [name]Beatrix[/name] is whimsical, playful, and reserved. Cute name, though!

[name]Ophelia[/name] - Oh, I love this! It is a bit on the girlish side compared to [name]Penelope[/name], but I think it is fabulous. And, it is a great alternative to [name]Olivia[/name]!

[name]Vivian[/name] - Pretty name, but it isn’t my favorite. Not when you’ve got gems like [name]Ophelia[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name] on the list!

[name]Isadora[/name] - The Is- names are getting a bit bland, in my personal opinion. I like [name]Isabel[/name] as much as the next person, but [name]Dora[/name] doesn’t really do it for me, and [name]Isadora[/name] looks like its trying too hard not to be [name]Isabella[/name].

[name]Vera[/name] - This just isn’t enough name next to [name]Penelope[/name]. Where [name]Penelope[/name] is fun and fresh, [name]Vera[/name] looks a bit tired in comparison, for me at least.

[name]Eloise[/name] - Another amazing name! Reminds me of that fun little [name]Eloise[/name] from [name]Eloise[/name] at the Plaza. Such an underused classic, and I could see her as the perfect sister to [name]Beatrix[/name], but, again, I don’t know if either is perfect with [name]Penelope[/name].

[name]Louisa[/name] - This feels a little too classic next to [name]Penelope[/name]. I could better see [name]Louisa[/name] with sisters called [name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Felicity[/name], I think.

[name]Rosalie[/name] - With Twilight, I think I’d hold off on this name. It really isn’t my favorite [name]Rose[/name] name, either. [name]Rosalind[/name] gets that honor!

[name]Violet[/name] - Pretty vintage name, but you did mention it was a little overdone for you. You might be on to something with that…

So, my favorites are [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name], and [name]Ophelia[/name], but [name]Ophelia[/name] would be the name I choose off this list to go best with [name]Penelope[/name]. I do have some suggestions for you, though!

[name]Viola[/name] - [name]Viola[/name] (‘vigh-O-lah’) is far less common than [name]Violet[/name], and it has the same vintage, flower-power appeal! [name]Viola[/name] is like a combination of [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name], so your husband might like it, too! I adore the combination of [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] more than anything!

[name]Livia[/name] - Is [name]Olivia[/name] too popular for you? Is [name]Ophelia[/name] maybe a bit too much name for your husband? What about [name]Livia[/name], a great compliment to [name]Penelope[/name] that isn’t too common. Plus, you get that cute [name]Liv[/name] nickname out of it!

Good luck!

[name]Lemon[/name]

Thanks, [name]Lemon[/name]! Great suggestions, and you verbalized a lot of the issues I’ve been mulling over myself. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Viola[/name] and will run it by the hubby!

[name]Hi[/name]!

[name]Glad[/name] I could be of some assistance to you! I love [name]Viola[/name], too, especially with big sister [name]Penelope[/name]. I think [name]Viola[/name] is one of those names that people will say, “Wow! What a beautiful, interesting name!” - isn’t that what we all want?

Good luck! Let me know what your husband thinks…

[name]Lemon[/name]

[name]Beatrix[/name] - this is actually what sprung to mind as I read the title of your post, so I voted for this one - it is a pretty, feminine classic with spunk, and sounds beautiful as a sister to [name]Penelope[/name] (which I love, by the way!).
[name]Ophelia[/name] - another lovely name, and very unusual. “[name]Feel[/name] ya” joke potential is always mentioned, but I don’t actually think it would be too bad.
[name]Vivian[/name] - a nice name, but if the popularity irks you then I wouldn’t use it.
[name]Isadora[/name] - I absolutely adore this romantic choice, and I think it sounds wonderful with [name]Penelope[/name]. The only possible downside is that their are quite a few little Izzys running around, now that [name]Isabella[/name]/[name]Isabel[/name] is so popular.
[name]Vera[/name] - unbelievably wonderful with [name]Penelope[/name].
[name]Eloise[/name] - I really like this one, but I find myself thinking that between the girls, there would be too many -el sounds.
[name]Louisa[/name] - a pretty name, but it doesn’t make me want to jump for joy paired with [name]Penelope[/name], as some of your other choices do.
[name]Rosalie[/name] - very pretty, but I’m not sure if the repeating -ee endings bother me, and I worry that it’s set to become popular after Twilight. You might also like [name]Rosanna[/name] or [name]Rosetta[/name].
[name]Violet[/name] - popular, but very pretty. I second [name]Lemon[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Viola[/name]. [name]Dahlia[/name] also springs to mind, as a flower name, or [name]Camelia[/name].

My vote is for [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Isadora[/name] or [name]Vera[/name], all of which I think are equally brilliant. [name]Margot[/name] and [name]Marguerite[/name] are other names that your options reminded me of.

Good luck! [name]Auburn[/name]

I voted for Lousia because I love the name. Other suggestions;
[name]Beatrice[/name] instead of [name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Viola[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Addison[/name] nn [name]Addie[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Josie[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Juliette[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]

Hm, now we’re thinking about [name]Virginia[/name], too…DH’s grandmother’s name. It’s not my favorite, but it is growing on me…thoughts?

I love [name]Virginia[/name] and I think it fits right in with [name]Penelope[/name]. Two different name endings too which is a plus for me.
Personally I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]. I named my cat that 24 years ago (I also had dogs named [name]Sophie[/name], [name]Katie[/name] and [name]Riley[/name] so we like people names on animals!)
You can not go wrong with either!

[name]Virginia[/name] - that’s a good question! I don’t know. [name]Penelope[/name] feels a bit more quirky than [name]Virginia[/name], who feels a bit more reserved. I can see [name]Virginia[/name] with siblings called [name]Frances[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name], but with [name]Penelope[/name] I see names like [name]Cassandra[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name], you know?

I know this is not at all the same name, but maybe you would like [name]Ginevra[/name] as a means of honoring [name]Virginia[/name]. It has that same [name]Ginny[/name] nickname - so cute! - and almost sounds like a scramble of [name]Virginia[/name] to me.

If you love it, though, go for it! Sounds like maybe you aren’t quite there…

[name]Lemon[/name]

My sister is [name]Virginia[/name], and she’s still bitter about how much people have made fun of it her whole life. It’s just proven to be easy to mock, even though she has always been well-liked and socially at ease. She went by [name]Ginny[/name] as a kid and then [name]Gin[/name] for college and beyond.

I vote for [name]Louisa[/name] or [name]Beatrix[/name]. Have you considered [name]Fernanda[/name]?

[name]Vera[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Vivian[/name]

I think [name]Beatrix[/name] is probably the best match with [name]Penelope[/name]. However, I voted for [name]Vera[/name] because I think the world could use more baby Veras. I just love the name.

What about [name]Cecily[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name], [name]Gwendolyn[/name], [name]Elinor[/name], [name]Viola[/name], [name]Adele[/name], [name]Magnolia[/name] or [name]Fiona[/name]?
