Trying to come up with puppy names

So my husband and I are considering on getting a puppy sometime in the future and we got caught up on making a list of names. We already have quite a list, but I would love to expand it, so far we don’t really “love” any, so I figured you guys might know if we are missing some awesome names.

We would really love a name that has an “-ee” sound ending, but it doesn’t have to be, and we would like it be under 3 syllables. Also would prefer it to not be close in sound to our top baby names: Luna, Flora, Ezra, and Everett. For example, we can’t use [name]Lucy[/name] because it’s too close to [name]Luna[/name]. And since we don’t know the gender, we need names for both or that can work on either.

Our current list:
Cici/[name]Cece[/name]
Pepsi - my current favorite
[name]Trixie[/name]/[name]Bellatrix[/name] - his current favorite
[name]Evie[/name]
[name]Chloe[/name]
[name]Rain[/name]/[name]Rainy[/name]
[name]Windy[/name]
[name]Lexie[/name]
[name]Euphie[/name]/[name]Euphemia[/name]
[name]Lotus[/name]
[name]Coco[/name]
Jingle
[name]Maisie[/name]
[name]Breeze[/name]/Breezy
[name]Snow[/name]/Snowy
[name]Noelle[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]

[name]Andromeda[/name] - A name we like, but is too long and we just don’t like [name]Andi[/name]/[name]Andy[/name] as a nickname, any other nickname options?

Thanks!

Also the breed we are looking into getting is a sheltie and color is either bi blue or blue merle.

I’ve heard of using [name]Andra[/name] as a nickname for [name]Andromeda[/name] (which I think is gorgeous, by the way). What about [name]Scout[/name]?

What about “[name]Romy[/name]” as a nickname for [name]Andromeda[/name]?

Well this MIGHT not be a problem for you, but I figured I’d point it out in case you didn’t notice.

You mentioned you don’t want names too similar to your potential future childrens names. [name]Both[/name] [name]Luna[/name] and [name]Severus[/name] are near the top of your list – both great names that will be associated with HP (absolutely nothing wrong with that), BUT I know personally I wouldn’t want to have children named [name]Luna[/name] and [name]Severus[/name] and then a puppy named [name]Bellatrix[/name]. I’m ok with themes amongst children, but spreading to pets might seem odd.

[name]Just[/name] thought I’d point that out!

On another note: Pepsi is adorable! I also love Jingle, [name]Snow[/name], [name]Noelle[/name], and [name]Stella[/name] for a little white puppy. [name]Coco[/name], [name]Maisie[/name], and Breezy are other favorites.

[name]How[/name] about: [name]Zoey[/name], [name]Rory[/name], [name]Holly[/name], [name]Polly[/name], [name]Molly[/name] (you get the picture), [name]Elsie[/name], [name]Libby[/name], Ashes, [name]Cody[/name], [name]Brody[/name], [name]Ari[/name], etc.

I almost forgot about this thread! We’re hoping to get a puppy next [name]Christmas[/name], so no longer as soon as we hoped, but I’ll keep this thread going till then to get more ideas  and I didn’t post the breed before, but we are planning on getting a bi-blue or blue merle sheltie.

[name]Andra[/name] is kind of cute, not a fan of scout or [name]Romy[/name].

@jess: I meant just in sound like [name]Lucy[/name] starts with [name]Lu[/name], like [name]Luna[/name]. I updated my signature since I posted this thread, so [name]Severus[/name] is one of my top names, but my husband vetoed it as a first, so that won’t be a problem… So I’m still liking [name]Bellatrix[/name].

[name]Elsie[/name] and [name]Ari[/name] are really cute as well! Thanks

[name]Trixie[/name]/[name]Bellatrix[/name] - love! one of my favorite people names is [name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Chloe[/name] - interesting! I like it
[name]Windy[/name] - super cute!
[name]Lotus[/name] - cute! at first I blended this with the one below it and thought your were considering Cactus (which is actually sorta cute!)
[name]Maisie[/name] - love it, but I prefer a simpler spelling for a dog, like [name]Mazey[/name]
[name]Snow[/name] - cute, what about Lumi (snow in Finnish)
[name]Stella[/name] - or [name]Starla[/name]
[name]Andromeda[/name] - What about just [name]Ro[/name]?

I know a girl at my school whose name is [name]Meda[/name] (like me-duh). You could use that as a nn for [name]Andromeda[/name].

[name]How[/name] about…

[name]Milly[/name]
[name]Elsie[/name]
[name]Waverly[/name]
[name]Maxie[/name]
[name]Polly[/name]
[name]Nanny[/name]
Frenchie
[name]Blaise[/name]
[name]Louie[/name]
[name]Harry[/name]
[name]Quimby[/name]
[name]Queenie[/name]
[name]Fresia[/name]
[name]May[/name]/[name]Mae[/name]
[name]Kay[/name]
[name]Ailsa[/name]
[name]Kacy[/name]

Hmm. Personally, I’m not a fan of child names for pets, but follow your heart.
Although I would like to say a few things:
This might be just me, but Pepsi and [name]Rain[/name]/[name]Rainy[/name] make me think of a dog that needs to go to the bathroom a lot. Also, [name]Windy[/name] and [name]Breeze[/name]/Breezy make me picture a dog that has a lot of, well, gas. Sorry! [name]Don[/name]'t listen to me if you don’t want to, I completely understand.
From your list, I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Coco[/name], Jingle, and Snowy. Snowy would be a great name for a white dog, and [name]Coco[/name] and Jingle would be adorable no matter what your dog looks like. Good luck! [name]Hope[/name] this helped.

I like the idea of a dog named [name]Josephine[/name] that would go by [name]Posy[/name] and [name]Poe[/name]. I just like all the versions. Dog trainers says it is a good idea to give your dog a longer, more formal name to use to talk about the dog, and then a shorter nickname that is the dog’s call name. This is because your dog’s name should mean “come!” Or at least “Pay attention!” Yet you talk about your dog all the time. So when you are talking to your husband you would say, “I’m taking [name]Josephine[/name] to the vet tomorrow.” But at the dog park you would call “[name]Po[/name]-sy!” [name]Hope[/name] all that rambling made sense.

I like [name]Snow[/name], and my on hesitation is that again, dog trainers say to never name your dog anything that starts with or sounds like “No!” because obviously you want no to mean no. I’m sure it still works out at times, despite what the experts say.

[name]One[/name] dog and cat I am sold on is [name]Pansy[/name]. I think it is adorable and goes well with puppy or kitten faces. I just like the name but everyone says it is off limits for human children because of teasing potential, but I don’t see why it shouldn’t be in play for pets.

I’ll just throw out suggestions:
[name]Adelaide[/name] “[name]Addy[/name]”
[name]Agatha[/name]
[name]Dixie[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Fifer[/name]
[name]Sky[/name] or [name]Skyler[/name], especially for a blue merle Sheltie
[name]Cloud[/name]
[name]Henrietta[/name], [name]Etta[/name]
[name]Bronte[/name]

Also, consider the personal, which only you can know. I think favorite writers, characters (books or movies), acters, and artists make great sources for a loved name.

Oh that’s interesting! I did not know that. Most of my friends have dogs and they just call them one name (Prancer, [name]Sarah[/name], [name]Bandit[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], [name]Duke[/name], Taco).

I like the suggestion of [name]Charlotte[/name] since [name]Lottie[/name] would be cute, and I also like [name]Cloud[/name] and [name]Sky[/name].

[name]One[/name] final note – you should never include your dog’s name when you are scolding your dog. You would never say, “No, [name]Pansy[/name], NO!” Only use your dog’s name in a loving, come-hither voice. Then your dog will come when you call as she will know it means you love her.

[name]Jasper[/name] or [name]Kismet/name

We have a bi blue sheltie - her name is Graysea. I also like [name_f]Isis[/name_f], [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_u]Bay[/name_u], Birtch and [name_f]Jennie[/name_f]. For [name_m]Tri[/name_m] and Bi colors - [name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] and [name_m]Duncan[/name_m]. For Sables - Roann, [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f], [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_f]Libby[/name_f] ([name_f]Liberty[/name_f]). Good luck with your Sheltie - they are a great breed.

I name a lot of my animals after literary characters or authors

[name_m]Watson[/name_m]
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_m]Pip[/name_m]

Forgot this was on here, but we got our girl awhile ago and named her [name_u]Lexie[/name_u]. Thanks everyone
