Trying to decide, but still have not found "The Name"

Before I knew if the baby was a boy or a girl I started looking for names. I had a huge list of girls names many that I loved, and a very short list of boys names. With girls I love odd names, ones that hardly anyone else has, (my first name is Loxie [name]Anne[/name] and I always get comments on it, I love that it is so different and wanted the same for a girl) but with boys I like strong traditional names. I want the child to have a name that works for a little boy but could belong to a lawer, or doctor if he so chooses. However I have a hard time finding ones I like both the long and short versions of. Example I love [name]Edward[/name] and [name]Edwin[/name] but not so fond of [name]Ed[/name] and really don’t like [name]Eddie[/name].

Since I can’t find “The Name” I am having a hard time narrowing my list. We are a blended family the oldest boys have names that probably won’t fit ([name]Jade[/name] 15 and [name]Piers[/name] 11), but it should go fairly well with the youngest who lives with us full time ([name]Tyler[/name] [name]James[/name]). Last name (for this one) is Senner.

My “shortened” list (hahahaha) is:
[name]Ryan[/name] [name]Michael[/name] ([name]Ryan[/name])
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elijah[/name] ([name]Theo[/name] or [name]Teddy[/name])
[name]Andrew[/name] [name]Johnathan[/name] ([name]Drew[/name])
[name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Michael[/name] ([name]Ben[/name])
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Jeremiah[/name] ([name]Nick[/name])
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Michael[/name] ([name]Eli[/name])
[name]Zachary[/name] [name]Ryan[/name] ([name]Zach[/name])
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Elijah[/name] ([name]Alex[/name] or [name]Zander[/name])
[name]Sabastian[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] (can you think of any NN”s for [name]Sabastian[/name]?)

Can you let me know what you think of these names or suggest others that you think I/we may like?

Thank you so much for your help!

Loxie

I don’t have time to properly respond at the moment, but I just wanted to bring up the idea of [name]Edward[/name] nn [name]Ward[/name]. I love [name]Ward[/name]!

I prefer [name]Ryan[/name] [name]Michael[/name]. It seems that all your other names are very long. If you want a long first name, try a 1 syllable middle name to even out the rythm. Something like [name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Ray[/name] Senner would be good. It flows better than [name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Jeremiah[/name] Senner (that is a mouthful!) Names that have good rythm and flow well sound the best.

Of the choices you listed, I like [name]Zachary[/name] [name]Ryan[/name] the best. I think it meets all of your criteria (good for a boy and good for a grown up professional). [name]Zach[/name] and [name]Tyler[/name] sound very nice together too.

I have trouble with boys’ names too but I thought of [name]Carson[/name]. I personally don’t care for [name]Theodore[/name] but I think [name]Teddy[/name] is a nn for [name]Edward[/name] too, if you like that combination better than [name]Edward[/name] nn [name]Ed[/name]/[name]Eddie[/name]

I will have to look for some one sylable names for middle names. Thank you for that suggestion. I would never not give a middle name but I have a hard time finding a pair that I like together! That is probably because I am not looking at the basics like number of sylables!

Thank you!

Of the names you listed, I like [name]Andrew[/name] ([name]Drew[/name]). But what caught my eye about your post is that you have an 11 year old son named [name]Piers[/name]. I’m due in 4 weeks and so far, [name]Piers[/name] is my top choice for boy names, but for some reason, I’m still wavering. Have you been happy with your name choice? Does your son like being named [name]Piers[/name]. Any specific comments you get from people? Thanks for any input you may have, and good luck on your own naming endeavor.

My husband adopted his first wife’s two children so neither one of us named them, I have only been with them for going on 3 years or so, but I think [name]Piers[/name] likes his name. My husband jokingly asked him if we should call the baby [name]Piers[/name] and he said no, but Pier would be ok! So I don’t think he has any problems with it. I think in todays nameing trends [name]Piers[/name] is a good choice.

Of your names I love:
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Andrew[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]

I love [name]Alexander[/name], too, but it has been so overdone, love [name]Zander[/name] though.

Here are some middle names to go with your first names:

[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Alfred[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Andrew[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Clarence[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Kenneth[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Philip[/name]
[name]Andrew[/name] [name]Barnaby[/name]
[name]Andrew[/name] [name]Finnian[/name]
[name]Andrew[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Andrew[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Andrew[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Andrew[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Frank[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Paul[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Peter[/name] - Russian Tsar names
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Bernard[/name] (ber-NARD)
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Cole[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Maxfield[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]George[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Lionel[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Sherwood[/name] - don’t use this, I just has to put it here because I adore the name [name]Sherwood[/name]. It isn’t in style but I hope its time will come soon! This was my reward for thinking of names for you!

I like [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Elijah[/name], but I agree that shorter mn’s may flow better, espcially since your other boys have shorter names. If they all had long fn’s and mn’s I wouldn’t think it was an issue. Something about [name]Tyler[/name] [name]James[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] seems unbalanced. But if it was [name]Tyler[/name] [name]James[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Cole[/name]…thats nice!
[name]Theodore[/name] ([name]Theo[/name])
[name]Sebastian[/name] ([name]Baz[/name] or [name]Bastian[/name])
[name]Elijah[/name] ([name]Eli[/name])

Middle names: [name]John[/name], [name]Finn[/name], [name]Cole[/name], [name]Beau[/name], [name]Seth[/name], [name]Dane[/name], [name]Reid[/name], [name]Rhys[/name], [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Grant[/name], [name]Graham[/name], [name]Jack[/name], [name]Lee[/name], [name]Clive[/name], [name]Max[/name], [name]Beck[/name], [name]Paul[/name]…

I agree with your favorites, and thank you for all of the suggestions! I like a lot of them.

Thank you for the middle name suggestions, I like several of them. [name]John[/name], [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Paul[/name] in particular. And the [name]Baz[/name] nn for Sebastion is great.

[name]Ryan[/name]: [name]Ryan[/name] is really, really popular…

[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elijah[/name] ([name]Theo[/name] or [name]Teddy[/name]): I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]! I think [name]Teddy[/name] is darling, and it’s actually my favorite [name]Edward[/name] nickname, too.

[name]Andrew[/name] [name]Johnathan[/name] ([name]Drew[/name]): I think this is very handsome, but I prefer [name]Jonathan[/name] spelled this way.

[name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Michael[/name] ([name]Ben[/name]): [name]Benjamin[/name] is popular, but I really love it.
([name]Ben[/name] Senner rhymes, though…)

[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Jeremiah[/name] ([name]Nick[/name]): I think that [name]Nicholas[/name] is very handsome, but because [name]Nicholas[/name] ends in S and your last name begins with one, the Ss blend together.

[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Michael[/name] ([name]Eli[/name]): I think this flows nicely…

[name]Zachary[/name] [name]Ryan[/name] ([name]Zach[/name]): It may just be me, but [name]Zachary[/name] still feels kind of 1980s to me…I’d personally use a middle name with [name]Zachary[/name] the doesn’t begin with an R, because [name]Zachary[/name] [name]Ryan[/name] is pretty R heavy.

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Elijah[/name] ([name]Alex[/name] or [name]Zander[/name]): Because [name]Alexander[/name] and Senner both end in -er, I’d personally go with a first name that doesn’t end in er.

[name]Sabastian[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] (can you think of any NN”s for [name]Sabastian[/name]?): I love [name]Sebastian[/name], and think the [name]Baz[/name] nickname is great!

[name]Edward[/name]: I [name]LOVE[/name] this, and it (and [name]Theodore[/name]) are my favorites from your list.

Some more names you may like:

[name]Abraham[/name]
[name]Calvin[/name]
[name]David[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Milo[/name] (close to [name]Tyler[/name]'s sound, though)
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]William[/name]

Best wishes to you and your family!

Thank you very much! You pointed out some very important points, like the Sss sounds and the R’s. I had never realized that teddy could be for [name]Edward[/name], that just may have to make my list now. I love [name]Gabriel[/name] but this child has a half brother by that name (my ex’s, may or may not ever meet but the possiblity is there). I like both [name]Leo[/name] and [name]William[/name] too.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions!

You’re so welcome! I really love a lot of the names on your list. (I plan on naming a future son [name]Edward[/name], nn [name]Teddy[/name], after my grandfather, so it has a special place in my heart.)

I personally know of two Edwards who go by [name]Teddy[/name] (both are intelligent and athetic), and then there’s the better known Senator, [name]Edward[/name] [name]Kennedy[/name], who went by [name]Ted[/name]/[name]Teddy[/name].

I really love:

[name]Leo[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] (I [name]LOVE[/name] this!)
[name]Leo[/name] [name]William[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Augustin[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Samuel[/name] ([name]Samuel[/name] is kind of iffy with Senner, though)
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] (may seem too alike due to their shared nickname)
[name]William[/name] [name]Edward[/name]

Best wishes to you!

I love [name]Zander[/name]! It works well with all the other kids names too.

The only nn i know of for [name]Sebastian[/name] is [name]Basti[/name]… which I don’t recommend using.

I have a friend [name]Sebastian[/name] (28 year old) who we call [name]Seb[/name]. [name]Love[/name] the name by the way, and so does the friend

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Loxie! My husband and I are expecting our first daughter and have been looking for the perfect girl’s name. We both love “Loxie” but we’re stuck. We’ve found a lot of people named Loxie, but not a lot about the name itself. In our searches, your Nameberry post page showed up, so I am messaging you to see what your opinion on your name is. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know the meaning or origin of Loxie? What do you like and dislike about you name? We appreciate any insight you can give Thanks! [name_f]Cami[/name_f]

My favorite is [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], nickname [name_u]Theo[/name_u].

I just wanted to say that I found your comment about giving your son a strong traditional name so that he could become a doctor or lawyer really quite sexist. Couldn’t your daughter become a doctor or lawyer too? Why would an unusual name be ok for her but not your son? Sorry for the unsolicited remarks, but as a female lawyer this really bothers me.

This is an old thread that someone revived and I hope your attitude on gender and names has changed since you originally posted.
