Trying to expand "The List"...with picky partners!

Hello! I’m [name_u]Jess[/name_u] and I’m new around these parts, though in no way new to name collecting (I have memories of an AOL based naming board on dial-up internet from my childhood)! My husband and I are planning on trying to conceive in the next year or so, and we’ve been discussing names for a while now. We’ve already decided that our first son will have the middle name [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], after my husband and his father, and our first daughter will have the middle name [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] (or [name_u]Rue[/name_u]) after my beloved grandmother.

I’m looking to expand our list a little, we’re both quite picky but are always open to suggestions!

The list as it stands today:

[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilya[/name_f] ([name_f]Lily[/name_f])
Maëlys ([name_f]Alys[/name_f])
[name_f]Annora[/name_f] ([name_f]Nora[/name_f])

[name_m]Abel[/name_m]
[name_u]Francis[/name_u] ([name_u]Frankie[/name_u])
[name_m]Cleary[/name_m]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]
[name_m]Riordan[/name_m]

As you can see, our tastes run towards the more unusual end of the naming spectrum and we both love Irish/Scottish/Gaelic/Celtic names. Anything in the top 50 is an absolute no and I’m not crazy about gender-ambiguous names on girls (I don’t mind them on boys though).

[name_f]Love[/name_f] your list! Great choices!

[name_m]How[/name_m] about:
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_m]Angus[/name_m]
[name_m]Roman[/name_m]
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f]
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]

[name_f]Ione[/name_f]
[name_f]Iona[/name_f]
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f]
Ailidh
[name_f]Annaliese[/name_f]

and [name_m]Cleary[/name_m] I think.

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_f]Maelys[/name_f]? Not like “malice”, I hope?

Maëlys is pronounced my-elle-EESE. The last syllable sounds like fleece.

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] - love it but it is getting popular
[name_f]Lilya[/name_f] ([name_f]Lily[/name_f]) - like the [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] spelling better, its a gorgeous name and [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] sounds adorable
Maëlys ([name_f]Alys[/name_f]) - not to keen on this one, the sound is nice but i am not a fan of how it is spelt
[name_f]Annora[/name_f] ([name_f]Nora[/name_f]) - love it, this and [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] are my favouries [name_f]Annora[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] also sounds nice

[name_m]Abel[/name_m] - very cute but [name_m]Abel[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] doesnt have the nicest flow
[name_u]Francis[/name_u] ([name_u]Frankie[/name_u]) - love it and [name_u]Francis[/name_u] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] is such a handsome and strong name
[name_m]Cleary[/name_m] - not my favourite
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u] - like it
[name_m]Riordan[/name_m] - makes me think of [name_m]Rick[/name_m] Riodan, again Riodan [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] doesnt flow the nicest

From the names that you have listed, for girls I really love [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Annora[/name_f]. From the boys I really like [name_m]Riordan[/name_m], [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], and [name_m]Abel[/name_m].

Other Suggestions - all the suggestions are Irish and Scottish names as you said you and your DH are partial to them.

You each plug in the names you like, and it suggests more names that you might both like.
