S/O and I have a bit of a list (I guess it’s more my list, because S/O hasn’t really gone through all of it yet), and I’m currently in the process of trying to find a way to describe what we like so I can try and find more names like what we have, and so I can describe what I’m looking for to S/O. Unfortunately, words aren’t on my side right now, and I’m struggling to find a way to describe what I like, other than something really vague like “playful” lol.
Here’s what I’ve got for each gender:
Boys
Bobby (all-time fave, #1 if we have a boy)
George
Henry
Freddie
Alfie
Louis (lou-ee)
Tommy
Finley / Finlay
Liam
Luke
Ollie
Jamie
Joey
Bertie
Danny
Niall (nye-all)
Cian (kee-an)
Ryan
Dean
How would you describe these names? Feel free to use whatever you feel works best - descriptions, colours, pictures, etc.! Also, if you have suggestions (preferably for boys, as the girl’s list is already super long), feel free to share them please
I’m not doing too well with the words either, this evening! Informal classics is somewhere near what I want to say: the boys names are largely informal versions or nickanames for traditional names. Popular classics of the 20 century?
Here are some others I think have the same vibe:
Playful fits! These are great lists: sweet, lively and full of fun.
This is a bit of a niche way to categorise these, but the British baby names data for the last two years has broken down the Top 100 by maternal age. Your style – that fresh, cute, sunny, cheeky-chappie kind of vibe – really fits with the younger age brackets of popular British style right now.
Check out the latest data (from 2019) here but obviously this is just the Top 100. Anecdotally, I know lots of younger mums here in the UK who have used names very similar in sound and style to these, even if they’re slightly less popular, as opposed to the older parents I know who tend to give the longer forms on the birth certificate, or just more enduringly popular, classic, “serious” sounding names in general.
@Emarkulics that’s a good idea, I’ll see what results I get from that too!
@edgeofthemeadow ooh, informal classic is a good one! Quite like Nate/Nathan, [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_m]Gavin[/name_m], but also like [name_m]Busby[/name_m] as it ties into the [name_u]Man[/name_u] U connection with [name_u]Bobby[/name_u]! Thank you!
@katinka cheeky chappie is a great way to describe it, thank you! That’s so neat how the data is broken down - I’m right between the two youngest age groups and it really does seem to be a lot like my style!
