trying to narrow down the list and find the one - WDYT?

[name]Hi[/name] all I posted here a few months back and we are now on the home stretch of our bub arriving and I would love to narrow down our rather long list to one/two names namely for a boy which is my guess at what we are having. We have a son [name]Hugo[/name] whose name suits him in fact he often refers to himself as Gogo which is not only cute but appropriate. Our preference is older names I guess some of our friends would agree that we like the hip grandpa/grandma so here is the short list

[name]Julius[/name] ( mn either [name]Sebastian[/name] or [name]Raphael[/name])
[name]Raphael[/name] ( mn [name]Jack[/name])
[name]Oscar[/name] ( mn [name]Jack[/name])
[name]Felix[/name] ( mn [name]Sebastian[/name])
[name]Sebastian[/name] ( mn [name]Felix[/name])

a few others being bounced around are [name]Rupert[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Reuben[/name] my difficulty is I love [name]Hugo[/name] its strong and I think a handsome name for a man and cute on our little fellow so I guess this is where I’m finding it hard as nothing jumping out and would like to feel the same about our bubs name if its a boy.

FYI other suggestions we have ruled out are [name]Oliver[/name] does not work with surname too many L’s, [name]Miles[/name] DH does not like, [name]Gabriel[/name] worried it would be pronounced feminine way, [name]Max[/name] we know to many and [name]Theodore[/name] due to [name]Theo[/name] being an O ending however I do like [name]Ted[/name], [name]Julian[/name] as its my nephews name, [name]Henry[/name] due to double initial and [name]Augustus[/name] nn [name]Gus[/name] diue to kid in willy wonka. Would like something that sits with [name]Hugo[/name] as its a rather strong name I guess

so would love to know your pick or mix of mn or other suggestions

if we are to have a girl
[name]Ivy[/name] is front runner MN either [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Estelle[/name] or [name]Charlotte[/name]. I love [name]Estella[/name] or [name]Stella[/name] however it does not work with our L’s in our surname and also like [name]Lila[/name], [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Poppy[/name] which we also know a few of

[name]Annetta[/name]

My vote with [name]Hugo[/name] would be [name]Raphael[/name], as it’s most definitely a strong name. And while it sounds quite different than [name]Hugo[/name], they have the same handsome, international flair. Of your girl names, I think [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] is fantastic!

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Annetta[/name]! [name]Love[/name] [name]Hugo[/name], great name!

Okay so for [name]Hugo[/name]'s little brother:
[name]Julius[/name] ( mn either [name]Sebastian[/name] or [name]Raphael[/name]) [name]Julius[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] is very nice
[name]Raphael[/name] ( mn [name]Jack[/name])
Doesn’t flow for me, [name]Raphael[/name] [name]Jackson[/name]?
[name]Oscar[/name] ( mn [name]Jack[/name]) Seems slightly abrupt with two short names.
[name]Felix[/name] ( mn [name]Sebastian[/name]) I Like others better
[name]Sebastian[/name] ( mn [name]Felix[/name]) I love love love [name]Sebastian[/name]! I would pair it with [name]Julius[/name] though, I think [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Julius[/name] is very handsome! A few other middles with [name]Sebastian[/name]:

[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]George[/name] ([name]How[/name] abput [name]George[/name] for a first?)
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]David[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name]

[name]Augustus[/name] nn [name]Gus[/name] due to kid in willy wonka. VERY funny! [name]How[/name] about just plain [name]August[/name]?

For a girl:
[name]Ivy[/name] is front runner MN either [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Estelle[/name] or [name]Charlotte[/name]. [name]Love[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]! As well as [name]Isla[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]!

Congrats!

thanks for suggestions/thoughts so far looking forward to a few more from nameberry peoples as its too tricky with family. Have to agree [name]Oscar[/name] [name]Jack[/name] is too short would either use [name]Raphael[/name], [name]Patrick[/name] or [name]Sebastian[/name] as MN but worried [name]Oscar[/name] is a bit popular.

so what jumps out as the one for you?
[name]Annetta[/name]

If I had only 1 vote it would be for [name]Sebastian[/name]. I think [name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] make an adorable and handsome pair! I like [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]George[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Oliver[/name] best.

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Annetta[/name]!

[name]Julius[/name] ( mn either [name]Sebastian[/name] or [name]Raphael[/name]): I’d go with [name]Julius[/name] [name]Raphael[/name], because the S’s in [name]Julius[/name] Sebastion run into one another, making the name sound like [name]Julius[/name] Abastion.

I really like [name]Julius[/name] [name]Raphael[/name].

[name]Raphael[/name] ( mn [name]Jack[/name]): I think [name]Raphael[/name] is an awesome name, but like others, I’m just not liking it paired with [name]Jack[/name]. To me, a romantic name like [name]Raphael[/name] is begging for a similarly romantic/special middle name. From your list here, I love [name]Raphael[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name].

What about [name]Raphael[/name] [name]Augustin[/name]? (It’s not [name]Augustus[/name] Gloop!)

[name]Oscar[/name] ( mn [name]Jack[/name]): Yes, [name]Oscar[/name] is popular, but I still think it’s a great name. I’m not feeling [name]Oscar[/name] [name]Jack[/name], but think [name]Oscar[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] is fantastic!

[name]Felix[/name] ( mn [name]Sebastian[/name]): I really love [name]Felix[/name] (I love all of your names), but when I say “[name]Felix[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name],” my tongue has a hard time. It may just be me, but the x ending of [name]Felix[/name] doesn’t flow with the S beginning of Sebastion.

What about [name]Felix[/name] [name]Raphael[/name] or [name]Felix[/name] [name]Augustin[/name]?

[name]Sebastian[/name] ( mn [name]Felix[/name]): I think [name]Sebastian[/name] is a great name, too!

If I have to pick one, I’m going to go with [name]Sebastian[/name]. I think [name]Sebastian[/name] is perfect with [name]Hugo[/name] in every way (I’m loving [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]August[/name]!), but the only opinion that truly matters, is yours.

I don’t recall the suggestions on your other thread, but here are some more ideas:

[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Atticus[/name]
[name]Augustin[/name]
[name]Archibald[/name]
[name]Alfred[/name]
[name]Byron[/name]
[name]Claudius[/name]
[name]Conrad[/name]
[name]Cassius[/name]
[name]Chester[/name]
[name]Clyde[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Edmond[/name]
[name]Edgar[/name]
[name]Franklin[/name]
[name]Finnian[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Homer[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Philip[/name]
[name]Phineas[/name]
[name]Roman[/name]
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Truman[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Xavier[/name]

I really, really like [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Estelle[/name]! I think [name]Lila[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] is gorgeous, too!

[name]Don[/name]'t worry, [name]Annetta[/name]! You’ll find the perfect name!

Either [name]Julius[/name] or [name]Raphael[/name].

have you considered [name]Jude[/name] or [name]Benjamin[/name]?

I agree [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Estelle[/name] is beautiul

[name]Julius[/name] - Since you have a relative named [name]Julian[/name], I would stay away from [name]Julius[/name].
[name]Raphael[/name] ( mn [name]Jack[/name]) - I like this pretty well. I do prefer [name]Gabriel[/name] for some reason.
[name]Oscar[/name] ( mn [name]Jack[/name]) - this is cute, but is so popular in some places. Not where I live - I only know of one.
[name]Felix[/name] ( mn [name]Sebastian[/name]) - I named my new stuffed animal kitty from Mexico [name]Felix[/name] and got tired of it right away.
[name]Sebastian[/name] ( mn [name]Felix[/name]) - This is my son’s middle name, and I just adore it!
[name]Rupert[/name] is very cool! [name]Love[/name] it with [name]Hugo[/name]!
What about [name]Lionel[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name]?
[name]Love[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Ted[/name]!
[name]Alfred[/name] nn [name]Alfie[/name]
[name]Bernard[/name] nn [name]Bernie[/name]
I would recommend [name]Victor[/name] except the two bros would sound like [name]Victor[/name] [name]Hugo[/name]!
[name]Magnus[/name] - so handsome!
[name]Laszlo[/name] - love this!
[name]Ivo[/name] - reminds me of [name]Ivy[/name] only it’s very boyish.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Jill[/name]'s suggestions of [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Chester[/name], and [name]Truman[/name]!

If it were me, I would choose either [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Bernard[/name], [name]Arthur[/name], or [name]Chester[/name]. They all match [name]Hugo[/name]'s energy. Or maybe I would pick [name]George[/name] or [name]Edward[/name]. [name]Edward[/name] nn [name]Ned[/name] or [name]Ted[/name].

I would not put [name]Sebastian[/name] with [name]Felix[/name], but maybe after thinking about it, I will like that combo better.
I like:
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Bernard[/name] (ber-NARD) The accent on NARD sounds lovely with [name]Sebastian[/name] and leads it nicely to whatever your last name is.
I like [name]Sebastian[/name] with something solid but soft. [name]Felix[/name] is sharp-edged with the “x” sound. [name]Sebastian[/name] feels kind of sharp with the two hissy “s” sounds. The “s” in [name]James[/name] is soft like a “z”.

Let us know if you really like one of our ideas (including the other posters’ ideas) for first names and we’ll think of some more middles.

if we are to have a girl
[name]Ivy[/name] is front runner MN either [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Estelle[/name] or [name]Charlotte[/name]. I love [name]Estella[/name] or [name]Stella[/name] however it does not work with our L’s in our surname and also like [name]Lila[/name], [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Poppy[/name] which we also know a few of

[name]Love[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Estelle[/name] the most because I really love the name [name]Estelle[/name]! The others are so pretty, too! [name]Ivy[/name] is great with [name]Hugo[/name]!

[name]Gabriel[/name] would have to be my number one. I think it’s strong, and [name]Gabe[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name] are great together without matching.

I also like [name]Raphael[/name], but if you live in [name]America[/name] he will likely end up with the nickname [name]Ralph[/name] (I knew a couple Raphaels, and they go by [name]Ralph[/name]). I don’t think [name]Ralph[/name] works with [name]Hugo[/name].

I would like [name]Julius[/name] if he didn’t have a cousin named [name]Julian[/name]

[name]Oscar[/name] is a great name! I like it with [name]Hugo[/name], too. It may be a little popular, but I’ve only met one, and he’s an adorable little baby!

[name]Love[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] as a middle name! [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Raphael[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Oscar[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name], I really like those!

thanks again for thoughts and suggestions still nothing jumping out. My nephew [name]Julian[/name] is 20 years older than our new bub so not sure if that matters and we also have an extended family member [name]Raphael[/name] nn Raf - so not sure what to do. I do like [name]Leo[/name] but don’t want another O sounding name but would like something that works/compliments [name]Hugo[/name], M starting names don’t really work as we have a M starting surname.

thanks
[name]Annetta[/name] (one month to go)

[name]Annetta[/name]

I had had a whole, huge post written out, hit a button and deleted it by accident. So I’ll update:
If [name]Julian[/name] is that much older, my vote goes for [name]Julius[/name]. [name]Hugo[/name] & [name]Julius[/name] are absolutely aces together; both strong & handsome. [name]Julius[/name] [name]Raphael[/name] ([name]Julius[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] runs together with the S’s)
But of all your options, [name]Julius[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] warms my heart. Would you consider [name]Julius[/name] [name]Oscar[/name]?

[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] is divine all by itself, no improvment needed there!

[name]Gabriel[/name] nn [name]Gabe[/name] sounds masculine and strong. Perhaps you would like these as well? [name]Rufus[/name], [name]Angus[/name] (nn [name]Gus[/name]), [name]Leopold[/name] (nn [name]Leo[/name]), or [name]Magnus[/name].

The girls names you have picked are lovely, especially [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Lila[/name].

Thought of [name]Linus[/name], [name]Cedric[/name], and [name]Otis[/name].
With the name [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Laura[/name] Wattenberg suggests the following brothers:
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Cyrus[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Edgar[/name]

Consider [name]Laszlo[/name] some more. It is a really fun name! So is [name]Ansel[/name]!

Ahhh its so hard to choose
many of the ones suggested have been used by family members or are close to name of family members and kids we know.

[name]Annetta[/name]

the top 5 boys at moment are
[name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Julius[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Felix[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name]

WDYT

[name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Julius[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Felix[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name]

I really love them all except for the combination of [name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Felix[/name] because I don’t really like the name [name]Felix[/name].

Does [name]Hugo[/name] ever get called “Hu”? I like [name]Julius[/name], but wonder if they ever get nicknamed if “Hu” and “Ju” would be strange…

Of your top five, they are all great, but I really like [name]Sebastian[/name].

If you still like [name]Leo[/name], but want to avoid the ending “o,” what about [name]Leon[/name]? Leoben? (yes it’s a totally made up name from battlestar gallactica, but I like the way it sounds)

[name]Gabriel[/name] is my fav with [name]HUgo[/name] closely followed by [name]Julius[/name]

I vote for [name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Annetta[/name]. I honestly think all of your finalists are great! If you can’t decide, I’m sure you’ll take one look at his face after he’s born, and the perfect name will definitely make itself known!

I, too, love [name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name]!

And [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Estelle[/name] are both perfect!

What great naming style you have!
