Trying to Prevent a Clash!

My husband and I are expecting our first child together, and we are absolutely thrilled! But we’ve run into a little bit of a difficulty with naming…I have two kids from a previous relationship, a daughter named [name]Rylan[/name] and a son named [name]Isaiah[/name]. While I don’t per say regret their names - I seriously cannot picture either of them with any other name - my naming style has definitely matured since I had them as a teen mom. I don’t want my baby’s name to clash with either of their names, but I also have to accept that I’m looking for names in a different style now.

Which of these names do you think work with [name]Rylan[/name] (g) and [name]Isaiah[/name] (b)? [name]Do[/name] you have any suggestions for other names in this style? [name]Even[/name] though I don’t really have any on my list, should I go with a more gender neutral name for a girl? We’re struggling and a bit all over the place, so any advice would be great, thanks!

Thank you–[name]Cataline[/name] (& [name]Brad[/name])

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Cataline[/name], congrats on your third pregnancy! You’re not alone so don’t despair! I think most people’s tastes in names change over time. I know my preferences have evolved since I was a teenager too (actually they’ve changed a lot since joining Nameberry! ). So you have already have a girl name [name]Rylan[/name] and a boy called [name]Isaiah[/name]. Names that parents choose don’t always have to come from the same “style family”. My advice is to just pick a name that you and your husband love rather than picking one that “matches”. I think you can go either way with a girls name because you have one name that is more unisex ([name]Rylan[/name]) and another that is Biblical/traditional ([name]Isaiah[/name]). From your list, I think the following names would be fine.
Girls:
[name]Orla[/name] - [name]Rylan[/name] reminds me of the Irish name [name]Ryan[/name] and [name]Orla[/name] is Irish too!
[name]Oona[/name] - See [name]Orla[/name]
[name]Olive[/name] - [name]Rylan[/name] means “from the rye land” and [name]Olive[/name] is another nature name. I know, I often see strange connections between names!
[name]Mabel[/name] - This vintage gem is very versatile so it goes with many different styles
[name]Willow[/name] - See [name]Olive[/name]
[name]Philippa[/name] (nn [name]Pippa[/name]) - A girls name taken from the boys name [name]Philip[/name] would be ok too! Another nn could be [name]Piper[/name] or [name]Pepper[/name].

Boys:
[name]August[/name] - classy and contemporary. [name]Love[/name] it!
[name]Asher[/name] - Biblical name that seems more modern in feel.
[name]Leo[/name] - the lion! Another nature name.
[name]Thomas[/name] - Traditional name from the Bible that can work with gender neutral names as well.
[name]Eli[/name] - Short but strong and masculine. It shares a strong “i” sound with [name]Rylan[/name] and is Biblical like [name]Isaiah[/name].
[name]Ari[/name] - An unusual choice but I like it. [name]Rylan[/name], [name]Isaiah[/name] and [name]Ari[/name] look good together!
[name]Bennett[/name] - This name is a version of [name]Benedict[/name] so I think it goes well with both [name]Rylan[/name] and [name]Isaiah[/name].
[name]Everett[/name] - Another versatile name that goes well with many styles.

All the best,
[name]Mischa[/name]

[name]Thea[/name], [name]Orla[/name], [name]Asher[/name], [name]Eli[/name], [name]August[/name] and [name]Everett[/name] are my favorites from your list.
other ideas-
[name]Theodore[/name] or just [name]Theo[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]- [name]Archie[/name]
[name]Levi[/name]
[name]Esme[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Teagan[/name]

Wow, it looks like you’ve already gotten some fabulous suggestions!

Here a few more you could consider with big sibs [name]Rylan[/name] and [name]Isaiah[/name]:

[name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Christo[/name]
[name]Nico[/name]
[name]True[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]

[name]Emery[/name]
[name]Jules[/name]/[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Lilac[/name]
[name]Ariel[/name]
[name]Carmen[/name]

For the girls, I think [name]Willow[/name] (from your list) and [name]Ariel[/name] go fabulously with sister [name]Rylan[/name] and brother [name]Isaiah[/name]. [name]Willow[/name] is distinctly feminine, and yet has an ‘o’ ending, so it fits in with the more unisex [name]Rylan[/name]. I also think [name]Ariel[/name] fits well because it is also unisex (also maybe more commonly noted as female), its biblical, and I just think it flows very well in the sibset. Not sure if your kids’ use nicknames, but [name]Ry[/name], Zaiah, and [name]Ari[/name] sound adorable together!

For the boys, I think [name]True[/name] would be a solid fit. [name]True[/name] is also unisex (but to me feels more masculine), and its a virtue name, and virtue names always give me a religious vibe. I also agree with mischa that [name]Eli[/name] is a fabulous fit. Its got that strong '[name]Ry[/name]/I(saiah)", its biblical, and it shares a strong ‘l’ with [name]Rylan[/name].

Best of luck,
