After thinking we had a few girls names decided, we have gone off them and are on the look out for other ideas now.
We are keen for the middle name and/or first name to honour family/friends and are happy to use variations and combinations of their names to do so- the names we are keen to honour are:
[name]Caroline[/name]/[name]Joan[/name] (she is known as both) and [name]Anne[/name] - our Mom’s.
If either of our Mom’s names are used, we want both of them to be honoured basically, not one or the other - or some combination of them ideally. Caroline or Joan is fine for his Mom, doesn’t have to be both, but either of those and Anne would be ideal)
[name]Harriet[/name]
[name]Sally[/name]
[name]Kim[/name] (or [name]Kimberley[/name]) and [name]Jill[/name] (not [name]Jillian[/name] as it’s not our style).
Again, if one of these is used, we would like both to be used somehow if that makes sense.
In terms of name styles that we like - below is a few favourites that we are considering (either mine, his or ours).
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name] (Could we get away with [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] to honour [name]Anne[/name] & [name]Caroline[/name]?)
[name]Cassandra[/name] (because of the nickname [name]Cassie[/name])
[name]Lillian[/name]
[name]Francesca[/name] (don’t like [name]Frankie[/name] as a nn though)
[name]Leah[/name]
[name]Faye[/name]
Our surname starts with Mc and has 3 syllables to it.
Had you thought about combining [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Anne[/name] to get [name]Carolann[/name] (or [name]Carol[/name]-[name]Ann[/name], however you want to punctuate it!)? I think it would work nicely with several of the other names you listed, in the first or middle spot!
I think [name]Joanna[/name] or [name]Johanna[/name] really honors both [name]Joan[/name] and [name]Anne[/name]. I do think [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] would honor both. You’d have to see how they react, though.
For [name]Francesca[/name], an alternative nn is [name]Francie[/name], or Cesca.
When you are picking a name to honor a relative, it helps to know the relative and the relationship. For example, I have a grandmother named [name]Elizabeth[/name], but, my grandmother [name]Emma[/name] meant more to me. I never knew my grandmother [name]Elizabeth[/name] (she was actually my great great grandma). [name]Emma[/name] doesn’t sound the best in the middle, but would be a better pick because it means more. See what I am saying? So don’t just pick what “flows” the best…pick what means the most. HTH!
Thank you! [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Joanna[/name] is a nice idea - we had originally thought of [name]Joanne[/name] to link both [name]Joan[/name] & [name]Anne[/name] but that is part of why we went off our original choices becuase [name]Joanne[/name] seemed a bit 70ish if that makes sense! But, [name]Joanna[/name] is another matter, it is much more classic, we didn’t think of that one! Thank you.
[name]Do[/name] you think we could get away with a fn & mn ending in the A sound?
Eg. [name]Clara[/name] [name]Joanna[/name], [name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Joanna[/name]? Or is it too much? Our surname has 2 As in it, but ends in a D.
If not - does anyone have any suggestions for fns which don’t end in A but which are similar to our style of choices above?
DH has vetoed [name]Lillian[/name] because [name]Lily[/name] is so popular at the moment sadly - I have loved that name since I was a child!
In terms of honouring family - all of the people with names above are very important to us.
[name]Joan[/name]/[name]Anne[/name] are our Moms
[name]Harriet[/name] & [name]Sally[/name] are our grandmothers who sadly won’t get to meet this wee one
[name]Kim[/name] & [name]Jill[/name] will be the baby’s godmothers.
We are happy to use any of their names really, but [name]Joanna[/name] seems like a good one to be going with - it is just the A ending I am stuck with now as most of the names I love end in A!
Actually, I like [name]Clara[/name] [name]Joanna[/name]! Very pretty, and flows nicely when said outloud. You could also go with [name]Claire[/name] [name]Joanna[/name] or
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Joanna[/name].
