TTC and starting to think about a sibset - French English Names!!!!

My DH has a daughter from a previous relationship whose name is [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. He loves classic names like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. I like names that are familiar and vintage. For example, [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] (which are names that I love). We will be honoring our relatives with the middle name position.

Our children will grow up bilingual (French-English). They will attend a French school and speak English at home. We are looking for names that sound good in French and English. For example, [name_m]Luc[/name_m] or [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] - these are both off the table as his cousins have used these names).

We also want the names to somewhat go with [name_f]Emma[/name_f] - it’s very common and not my cup of tea.

What do you suggest?

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]/[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]

[name_m]Henri[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] - not a fan
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]/[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] - I think it will be too trendy with singer [name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - I once named a cat this name so no
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f] - DH’s cousin’s name
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - I like this and he does not.
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] - not quiet enough

[name_m]Henri[/name_m] - I love this and he does not.
[name_m]Leo[/name_m] - I love this and DH says its okay.
[name_m]Julian[/name_m] - never thought of this and will bring it up to DH

Thanks for the ideas. I think you’re getting close.

Or maybe [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]/[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]?
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]?

Adelise (French forerunner to [name_f]Alice[/name_f])
[name_f]Cecile[/name_f]
[name_f]Maelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Helene[/name_f]
And I also like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]

Boys are tougher…
[name_m]Olivier[/name_m]?
[name_m]Benoit[/name_m]?

[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is lovely. I couldn’t convince my DH to use it either :(.
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] and:
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Collette[/name_f]
[name_u]Simone[/name_u]
[name_f]Anais[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Claudine[/name_f]/[name_f]Claudette[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]

Good luck

[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_u]Noah[/name_u]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Simeon[/name_m]

[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Clemence[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Corisande[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Giselle[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]

Oh I forgot boys!
My grandfather is [name_m]Peter[/name_m] so have a soft spot for [name_m]Pierre[/name_m].
[name_m]Thierry[/name_m]
[name_u]Jean[/name_u]
[name_u]Antoine[/name_u]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u]
[name_m]Edouard[/name_m]
[name_m]Guy[/name_m]
[name_m]Philippe[/name_m]

So we sat down today and made list of names. I think we have a soft sport with names that have the L sound. Which would you put together for a subset:

[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Lea[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridgitte[/name_f]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Julien[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_u]Curtis[/name_u]
[name_m]Marc[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Russell[/name_m]
[name_m]Laurent[/name_m]
[name_m]Martin[/name_m]

My personal favorites would be
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_m]Julien[/name_m]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Bridgitte[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]

But I think that really any of them could work. [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Lea[/name_f] are a bit too similar for me, but it could be done.

Of your choices, I really love: [name_f]Brigitte[/name_f] (this spelling), [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Laurent[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Martin[/name_m] and [name_m]Vincent[/name_m].

I don’t really like: [name_f]Lea[/name_f], [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], [name_u]Curtis[/name_u], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Julien[/name_m], [name_m]Marc[/name_m] and [name_m]Russell[/name_m].

For sibsets, depends on how many children you want! I’ll go with four (including [name_f]Emma[/name_f]). So…

[name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] would be my favourite sibset. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]

[name_f]Love[/name_f] French names! Some faves are: [name_f]Alize[/name_f], Perinne, [name_m]Jacques[/name_m], Sebastienne (yes, on a girl), [name_m]Louis[/name_m], [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f], [name_f]Angelique[/name_f], and [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]. Oh, and Catiche–an old variant of [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].
