Our twin girls are due in early [name]July[/name], and with the help of you brilliant Nameberry posters, we have settled on [name]Dorothea[/name] ([name]Dottie[/name]) and [name]Marigold[/name] ([name]Maggie[/name]) for their names. We had previously decided on the combination :
[name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Marigold[/name] [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Blithe[/name] - this puts a name which honours family in each of the combos ([name]Blithe[/name] and [name]Cecily[/name]). I think both names should honour family (our other three children all have family names in there somewhere).
However, I’ve been thinking that the combinations :
[name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Blithe[/name]
[name]Marigold[/name] [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] - seem more balanced; [name]Pearl[/name] seems to make [name]Marigold[/name] softer, somehow. But [name]Maggie[/name] would not have any family names.
We must include the names [name]Cecily[/name], [name]Blithe[/name] and [name]Imelda[/name], but we could possible change up [name]Pearl[/name] to one of the following family names : [name]Jane[/name], [name]Mae[/name], [name]Plum[/name], if it solves the problem.
Which do you think is more important - the twins’ whole names having a similar feel, or both honouring family?
Have you considered switching all the middle names and having
[name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Blithe[/name]
and
[name]Marigold[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]?
I adore the names you have picked out; [name]Dorothea[/name] nn [name]Dottie[/name] is so cute and [name]Marigold[/name] nn [name]Maggie[/name] has been on my list for ages. I really love [name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], and [name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Blithe[/name] seems just a tad heavy on the th-sound. A bit lispy, I should say. Not that the names aren’t wonderful, but this is just a very tiny, minor thing for me. I really love [name]Imelda[/name], it’s one of the names my older sister is considering for her baby. (She and her husband were kind enough to let me take care of the whole naming process since they’re both busy with medical school. At least, I’m doing the suggesting, they’re doing the yes-or-no-ing.) However, I worry about the fact that [name]Maggie[/name] won’t have a family name if you use [name]Pearl[/name]. To be honest, I really think the original set of [name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Blithe[/name] would be perfect and I think it’s more important to honor the family, if you are inclined to do so with your other children.
This is a tough one! I know I told you I preferred [name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Blithe[/name] and [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], as I totally agree that [name]Pearl[/name] softens [name]Marigold[/name] a bit more, adding a finished touch to the name. That being said, I don’t love the sound of [name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Blithe[/name] as much as [name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] - [name]Cecily[/name] needs a bit of softening, too, I think.
In all honesty, I think my favorites are [name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Jane[/name], as I think they best compliment one another in sound. I wouldn’t use [name]Plum[/name] with [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Imelda[/name], as it has far too many more unique names than [name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Cecily[/name], then, not to mention the natural “overkill,” you know? I know this isn’t what you want to hear, but I thought I’d be honest…
I second this! To me, the name [name]Cecily[/name] shouldn’t be put up against [name]Dorothea[/name] due to the same ending sound. The “ee” sound at the end of both [name]Dorothea[/name] and [name]Cecily[/name] is throwing me off! But by switching the complete middle names around, you are not losing out by not having a family name in each…and i personally think it flows better!
