Twin Girls

**update! I am having twin girls! So exciting. I’ve decided on:
[name]Irena[/name] & [name]Eleanor[/name] or
[name]Irena[/name] & [name]Eloise[/name]

I know [name]Eleanor[/name] is quite popular and I don’t “love” that about the name. However, I truly love the name and can get over the popularity thing. When going round and around with girls names, I kept coming back to my favorite “[name]Eleanor[/name]” and realized it was a sign. I do really like [name]Eloise[/name] too though now.

I’m having twins… less than two weeks until I find out the genders. I’ve already posted threads about my love for the name [name]Irena[/name]. I really think I am going to name a girl twin this. Now, I’m looking for other names that go with [name]Irena[/name] if I have a g/g set.

Right now, I’m kinda drawing a blank although I love many girl names. (Vintage, Classic, somewhat unpopular is my style. I also like nicknames, but it’s not required).

I like:
[name]Amelia[/name] - but feel it’s too popular for me in general and for a twin to [name]Irena[/name] (an un-ranked name)

[name]Helena[/name] - is it too close or “cutesy” sounding [name]Irena[/name] and [name]Helena[/name] -I kinda like the flow. Instead of nn’s [name]Rena[/name] and [name]Lena[/name], I could do [name]Rena[/name] and [name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name]

Thanks for the suggestions!

I like [name]Irena[/name] a lot! I think perfect twin names are stylistically similar, have relatively equal popularity but aren’t matchy. Therefore, I think a twin name for [name]Irena[/name] should be a bit exotic though familiar to the ear, have a nickname and be far from popular (last year only 18 girls named [name]Irena[/name] were born!). Therefore, [name]Amelia[/name] is much too popular. I’d say [name]Helena[/name] is too popular too, since it’s in the top 1000. [name]Imogen[/name] strikes a good balance, but it lacks a nice nickname with [name]Rena[/name]. There’s Immi, [name]Iggy[/name], or [name]Gene[/name]/[name]Genie[/name] if you go with [name]Imogene[/name]. But I don’t think you’ve found the perfect name yet. Here are some possibilities you might like (none of these names are in the top 1000):

[name]Emmeline[/name] ([name]Emmy[/name])
[name]Antonia[/name] ([name]Annie[/name], [name]Toni[/name])
[name]Leonora[/name] ([name]Nora[/name])
[name]Geneva[/name] ([name]Ginny[/name], [name]Neva[/name])
[name]Florence[/name] ([name]Flora[/name], [name]Floss[/name])
[name]Louisa[/name] ([name]Lou[/name], [name]Lulu[/name])
[name]Millicent[/name] ([name]Millie[/name])
[name]Isadora[/name] ([name]Izzy[/name], [name]Dora[/name])
[name]Lucinda[/name] ([name]Lucy[/name], [name]Lulu[/name])
[name]Francine[/name] ([name]Franny[/name], [name]Frankie[/name])
[name]Agatha[/name] ([name]Aggie[/name])
[name]Rafaela[/name] ([name]Raffy[/name], [name]Ellie[/name]/[name]Ella[/name])
[name]Petra[/name] ([name]Ettie[/name])
[name]Fredericka[/name] ([name]Freddie[/name])
[name]Ramona[/name] ([name]Romy[/name], [name]Mona[/name])

I actually think [name]Louisa[/name] and [name]Irena[/name] are perfect together! And [name]Isadora[/name] and [name]Irena[/name]! But that’s just me. Any of these names (and probably many more that I can’t think of at the moment) would go wonderfully with [name]Irena[/name]. Good luck!

[name]Hi[/name]! I think [name]Irena[/name] is a beautiful name…and I love [name]Helena[/name]! But unfortunately, I think the 2 names are too matchy. Instead, how about [name]Irena[/name] and:

[name]Anastasia[/name] (another beautful Russian name)

Hmm, I don’t think you’ve found the best twin for [name]Irena[/name] yet! I like [name]Irena[/name] quite a lot. Here are some more options:
[name]Irena[/name] ([name]Rena[/name]) and…
[name]Adela[/name] ([name]Addie[/name], [name]Della[/name], [name]Ella[/name])
[name]Junia[/name] ([name]Junie[/name], [name]Juno[/name])
[name]Dorothy[/name] ([name]Dotty[/name] - so cute!)
[name]Cassia[/name] ([name]Cassie[/name])

Good luck!

Oh I love the previous poster’s suggestion of [name]Antonia[/name] and [name]Irena[/name]! I think that is really lovely. [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Irena[/name] is also a cute combo!

Thanks for talking me out of [name]Irena[/name] and [name]Helena[/name]! I think part of the reason I love [name]Irena[/name] is because it’s close to [name]Helena[/name] (a name I’ve loved for a while) and somehow I didn’t realize how close they really were.

Anyway- great suggestions. I agree, I’m not quite there yet with the perfect name. I have an intuition that at least one twin is a boy so I feel like I’m neglecting choosing multiple girl names. I also don’t have 2 boy names nailed down.

Of the names suggested I like:
[name]Louisa[/name] **alot! (but I looked up the meaning and it’s “war” whereas [name]Irena[/name] means “peace” - this could be a weird twin combo)
[name]Natasha[/name] **alot
[name]Dorothy[/name] (or maybe [name]Dorthea[/name]?) **alot

What about

I love the name [name]Irena[/name]! Beautiful! If you have two girls I don’t think the second name should end with an “A”. I think if you love another name ending in “A” (such as [name]Helena[/name]) you could use that name as a middle name for the baby. Such as…

[name]Irena[/name] [name]Jacqueline[/name] and [name]Claire[/name] [name]Helena[/name]

I think [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]& [name]Anastasia[/name] [name]Elise[/name]

[name]Irena[/name] is very pretty. From your list, I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]-- it doesn’t mean exactly mean ‘war’, but it does mean ‘famous warrior’-- I think that’s a little less weird with [name]Irena[/name]. I also really like [name]Antonia[/name], [name]Leonora[/name], and [name]Dorothea[/name]. [name]Eloise[/name] is lovely with [name]Irena[/name]!

What about:

Rose23-- that’s a great suggestion. I could have [name]Helena[/name] as a middle name.

irisrose – I saw “war” on another site. Famous Warrior and [name]Peace[/name] – not a terrible combo I suppose  I really love the way [name]Irena[/name] and [name]Louisa[/name] sound together.

[name]Winifred[/name] is great and [name]Tatiana[/name] is very cool and especially fitting w/ [name]Irena[/name]. I’ve never personally been to [name]Russia[/name], but maybe if we have twin girls with very russian names, we could aspire to that someday! hehe

[name]Just[/name] found two other options I like -

Immediatly I thought [name]Erica[/name] would be the perfect sister for [name]Irena[/name]. [name]Erica[/name] means “[name]Eternal[/name] Ruler”.

If not [name]Erica[/name] how about…

[name]Erica[/name] is pretty! I think it might be a little “popular” for [name]Irena[/name] though.

I’m still looking around at name lists and came across:
[name]Eudora[/name] & [name]Irena[/name]
[name]Paloma[/name] & [name]Irena[/name]
[name]Francine[/name] & [name]Irena[/name]
[name]Blythe[/name] & [name]Irena[/name]
[name]Hillary[/name] & [name]Irena[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name] & [name]Irena[/name]

then names from my previous posts. I still really like [name]Natasha[/name] – [name]Irena[/name] and [name]Natasha[/name] - since i’m due in december, [name]Natasha[/name] seems fitting too.

[name]Irena[/name] and [name]Dorothy[/name]
[name]Irena[/name] and [name]Mildred[/name]
[name]Irena[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name]

I think that one of the previous posters suggestion of [name]Juliet[/name] or [name]Miriam[/name] would be BEAUTIFUL with [name]Irena[/name]. Either one would complement [name]Irena[/name]!!!

I am a huge fan of [name]Dorothy[/name] or [name]Dorothea[/name], with nn [name]Dottie[/name]. Beautiful! But for some reason, my eye is drawn to “[name]Eloise[/name]” with “[name]Irena[/name]” Maybe because they are closer in length…and both start with a soft vowel. Tough, tough choice!

I just posted an update to the first message. Had an ultrasound today and it’s two girls! I’d love some opinions on [name]Eleanor[/name] vs [name]Eloise[/name].

I’m also looking for flower middle names for both girls. We already have [name]Rose[/name] & [name]Iris[/name] (from our first two daughters-- not twins- lol. They can be “exotic” flower names too not just the [name]Lily[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], and [name]Dahlia[/name]-types. our last name starts w/ C and ends w/ an N. so flowers like [name]Jasmine[/name], [name]Jessamine[/name], and Alyssum are not flowing quite right for me.

I prefer [name]Irena[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name] slightly because I think they have a similar freshness/spunk even though they are clearly “old fashioned” names. [name]Eleanor[/name], while beautiful, is anything but fresh, and it sort of bogs [name]Irena[/name] down [name]IMO[/name].

[name]Flower[/name] middles:

[name]Irena[/name] [name]Primrose[/name]
[name]Irena[/name] [name]Marigold[/name]
[name]Irena[/name] [name]Fleur[/name]

[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Aster[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Orchid[/name]

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Posy[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Poppy[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Azalea[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Camelia[/name]
