twin girls!

Right, my husband is deciding he does like [name]Bronwyn[/name] now, and has suggested [name]Merida[/name] and [name]Bronwyn[/name] for our unexpected twins. I really like this set, and I think this is what we’re going with, since many of you liked Merida and Bronwyn with Ciara’s name

Merida and Bronwyn need middle names though! Our eldest’s middle name is after my mother in-law (Alison) and a basic, simple second middle name (Grace). We’re not sure which to use! Bronwyn Danielle is one we do like, but not sure on a second middle name, help?

Oh, wow congrats! [name]Just[/name] curious, how come it took the doctor/midwife 5 months to figure out it was twins? I’d be mad at the one who did your sonogram.

[name]Merida[/name] and [name]Bronwyn[/name] are really perfect together!

Hmm, how about:
[name]Merida[/name] [name]Elowen[/name] [name]Fern[/name] & [name]Bronwyn[/name] [name]Danielle[/name] [name]Merris[/name] (a little bit of matchy-ness for the twins!)
[name]Merida[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Wren[/name] & [name]Bronwyn[/name] [name]Danielle[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Merida[/name] [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Shea[/name] & [name]Bronwyn[/name] [name]Danielle[/name] [name]Tess[/name]
[name]Merida[/name] [name]Valerie[/name] [name]Hope[/name] & [name]Bronwyn[/name] [name]Danielle[/name] [name]Verity[/name] (Keeping the virtue middles going!)
[name]Merida[/name] [name]Valerie[/name] [name]Sapphire[/name] & [name]Bronwyn[/name] [name]Danielle[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Merida[/name] [name]Belle[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] & [name]Bronwyn[/name] [name]Danielle[/name] [name]Violet[/name]

I hope that helps!

Naming a girl [name]BronWYN[/name] would be odd because IIRC, -wyn is the male ending and -wen is the female ending.
Also, I completely second what ottilie said.

Wow, you got to twenty weeks and had a gender scan BEFORE they found the second surprise baby? Sounds like a miracle.

I don’t like [name]Bronwyn[/name] or [name]Merida[/name], sorry. I suggest [name]Mirabel[/name] and [name]Bianca[/name] as alternatives.

I wonder if they’ll find a hidden triplet at your next scan?!

Wow. [name]Just[/name] finding out you were having twins is crazy. Men are funny sometimes… they say no and then they say yes, especially with names, as I remember you said he had axed [name]Merida[/name].

I like your previous [name]Merida[/name] combo… [name]Merida[/name] [name]Violet[/name] [name]Jayne[/name], I believe. Maybe [name]Bronwyn[/name] [name]Danielle[/name] [name]Mae[/name]

I’m assuming the one twin is extremely good at playing hide and seek!

Ok I’m confused, are you having twins or not? Is this baby a time traveler?

Yeah, you mentioned earlier you already knew you were carrying one daughter-- which means you had a Level [name]One[/name] sono which examined the baby closely and diagnosed its gender. It is simply not possible to have a long, detailed ultrasound and miss a second baby.

Wow! that would be a huge surprise, and highly rare!! [name]How[/name] many weeks were you when your first sonogram was done???

The positioning of them, apparently, haha! We were confused at first, but apparently it happens, either way, we’re beyond grateful for the two of them, because it’d taken us so long just to get pregnant.

she is! haha apparently, it’s not entirely unheard of, but either way we’re still shocked, somewhere at a scan, Twin B was hidden and couldn’t be seen, or was just not noticed (still not sure how they didn’t see her)!

I know! + I was about 13 with the first, then 17, now I’m at 21. Because of all the complications I’ve had in the past (losing a baby at 8 + 14 weeks) we’ve been walking on eggshells with this. This is definitely surprising, and everyone’s scratching their heads at it, but somewhere along the line, someone just didn’t notice, or one twin was being sneaky and hiding, haha!

Sorry, just seeing your reply! Wow! Congrats!

yeah, first he axed [name]Merida[/name], then [name]Bronwyn[/name], I fought for [name]Merida[/name] to become a name, because, as much as I like [name]Isla[/name], it’s 11th most popular, which is one of my pet peeves, and now he’s decided he’s warmed up to both names! He did the same with our first, we went through [name]Fallon[/name], [name]Ciara[/name], Kaylinn, Kellianne, Kerilyn, [name]Aoife[/name], and back to [name]Ciara[/name]

it’s ok, I’ve only just replied, haha. Thank you! We’ve been trying since [name]Ciara[/name] was around a year old, because there’s a big age gap (7 years) between my husband and his sister, and he hated not having anyone his closer between them, my sister and I were 2 years apart, and loved it, but things just didn’t go in our favour until now! We’re definitely confused, but, we’re not too upset, considering everything that’s gone wrong in the past.

Apparently, it’s because [name]Bronwyn[/name], (Twin B) is smaller than [name]Merida[/name], and she was positioned awkwardly, so, when I had the ultrasound, she was hidden, and all we could see was [name]Merida[/name]. I’d been slightly paranoid, because in one picture, it looked as though there was another limb there, and it was dismissed as the cord. We asked our doctor again, he checked it out, and, long story short, I was right, and there’s two babies. I’m naturally heavier set, and since [name]Ciara[/name] was born, I haven’t entirely got my ‘pre-pregnancy’ body back, and, I’ve heard that you get bigger with the second baby, so, we never thought anything of it when we noticed I looked bigger than I had the first time. It’s a complete and total miracle either way though, just frustrating that we didn’t know before hand!

[name]BronWYN[/name]=boy’s name
[name]BronWEN[/name]=girl’s name

I am sorry, but the only way this could happen (that a limb from [name]Baby[/name] B was mistaken for the cord from [name]Baby[/name] A) would be if the twins were monoamniotic-- that is, shared the same amniotic sac. Otherwise you have two completely separate sacs, like cushions of water, where no intervening limb can pop into the picture. And monoamniotic twins simply cannot be missed during a full 17-week anatomy scan where the gender was correctly deduced. I don’t care if the ultrasound machine was manufactured in 1975, if the resolution was good enough to tell you you’re having a daughter, it’s impossible to miss monoamniotic twins. A Level [name]One[/name] sono takes 30+ minutes, with every structure of the developing baby minutely examined. There’s just not that much room in there to miss a second baby.

Here’s a 3D sono of 14wk mono-mono twins to prove the point:

By 21 weeks, they are all up in each other’s business. Here’s a closeup of their little faces. One twin cannot “hide” behind the other:

Gently, do you see how it is impossible to miss?

[name]Bronwen[/name] & [name]Merida[/name] are lovely names, and I hope you get to use both some day.

I had a scan a couple of weeks ago, at only 6 weeks gestation. At that point they were looking for twins, as my HCG #'s had come back high, and I have other factors that could possibly indicate twins (age, and I am a high multipara)… anyway, she said there was only one tiny baby… but they did want a repeat scan done (which I will have tomorrow) “just to make sure” at that point I asked her if it was possible to miss a twin… her words were, “with today’s technology after 8 weeks gestation, it is nearly impossible”…
about the names: I do think Bronwen and Merida are a nice match, though not my style…
