We have twin girls due in [name_f]September[/name_f] and we are totally stuck when it comes to names. DH and I have very different tastes. He has his heart set on 5-letter names, since he and I and our older daughter ([name_f]Amity[/name_f]) all have 5-letter names. I’m okay with that if we can find two 5-letter names that I like!
We both agree that we want names that aren’t very popular, but I want to pick names that are easy to spell/pronounce. I tend to like old-fashioned names and he likes really obscure names.
Here are some pairs we’re considering:
[name_u]Keeva[/name_u] & [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] - I think they go well together, but they don’t necessarily go with big sister [name_f]Amity[/name_f]'s name. I also worry that people will just think of [name_f]Keva[/name_f] Juice. And that [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is getting pretty popular.
[name_f]Xenia[/name_f] & ??? - [name_f]Xenia[/name_f] is DH’s favorite. It is growing on me, but everyone else seems to hate it. I think it goes pretty well with [name_f]Amity[/name_f], but it’s going to be hard to come up with another name to go with it.
Reisa and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] - These have latin roots, like [name_f]Amity[/name_f], and I like the meaning of both. Reisa would be in honor of a family member ([name_f]Theresa[/name_f]). But maybe it’s a bad idea to name one twin in honor of a family member and not the other! I’m also not sure how to spell it… it seems like both Reisa and Riesa are used. I’m going for the pronunciation “risa”. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce Reisa vs. Riesa?
Other names DH likes: Kaida, [name_f]Sanne[/name_f], [name_f]Beryl[/name_f]
Other names I like: [name_f]Mette[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
Anyway, additional thoughts, suggestions, or pairings would be much appreciated!!
I admit I thought of keva juice But I don’t think that’s a huge deal.
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] are cute together. But maybe a little too matchy?
[name_f]Xenia[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u] and [name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Kaia[/name_f] and [name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
I really like Reisa (spelt that way) however I’m not sure if it goes that well with [name_f]Amity[/name_f]. But when pairing it with one of your already chosen names, I would go with Reisa and [name_f]Xenia[/name_f].
I also think that Kaida and [name_f]Xenia[/name_f] go well together and match well with [name_f]Amity[/name_f].
So, out of your suggestions I like:
Kaida and [name_f]Xenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Xenia[/name_f] and Reisa
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Sanne[/name_f] and [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] (though I spell [name_f]Sanne[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Sanna[/name_f]’, it’s one of my favourites)
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f]
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Junia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mette[/name_f] and [name_f]Liesa[/name_f] (lee-za)
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u] and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Sanne[/name_f]
Congratulations! [name_m]How[/name_m] exciting
I love the name [name_f]Amity[/name_f]; I think it’s beautiful! I’ve only ever met one [name_f]Amity[/name_f], and her sister is called Jarrah.
Here are some suggestions for you:
[name_f]Livia[/name_f]
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]
[name_f]Layla[/name_f]
[name_f]Esmee[/name_f]
[name_f]Norah[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Noemi[/name_f] (or [name_f]Naomi[/name_f])
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Xenia[/name_f]. It looks very exotic to most but it’s still easy to pronounce and approachable. I think it’s an excellent match for [name_f]Amity[/name_f], personally-- both uncommon, deeply-rooted, pretty names, from the same “exotic traditional” family.
So I would stick with [name_f]Xenia[/name_f], and try to find another 5-letter name you like. Personally, I think you should keep [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]-- I really like [name_f]Xenia[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Amity[/name_f] together. If you live in the US, it’s still extremely uncommon. [name_f]Willa[/name_f] would work, too, but I think it’s a little more down-home than [name_f]Xenia[/name_f] and [name_f]Amity[/name_f], both of which strike me as more cosmopolitan.
Congrats! Very exciting having to name two babies but I am sure also challenging. Above are a few ideas if you still havnt made your mind up.
Good luck
Zodiac Baby Names for Girls | Nameberry There are quite a few 5 letter names on this that were quite nice for a girl and uncommon names. [name_f]Xenia[/name_f] and zelda sound good together. The other option could be to choose names with the same meaning, I think that isn’t cute way to name twins so they have a connection even if very different names
I think [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] go nicely, and [name_f]Xenia[/name_f] is cool. I think people are just not used to [name_f]Xenia[/name_f], I like it!
[name_f]Xenia[/name_f] and [name_u]Aspen[/name_u]?
Thanks for all of the great suggestions!! The “exotic traditional” characterization is right on!
DH and I both like [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], even though it’s not as traditional as some of the other suggestions. But if we have two kids with names that start with A, would the third feel like the odd one out? DH proposes [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] and [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] or [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] and [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] for the twins. He loves [name_f]Aoife[/name_f]… I think it’s too hard to spell. But I might be able to get behind [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] and [name_f]Aviva[/name_f].
We are both liking [name_f]Zelie[/name_f] too. [name_f]Xenia[/name_f] and [name_f]Zelie[/name_f]?
[name_f]Frida[/name_f] is a family name, so I’m partial to that one as well. [name_f]Frida[/name_f] and [name_f]Mette[/name_f] or [name_f]Frida[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]?
I like [name_f]Xenia[/name_f] best out of your list. I would personally not do another name starting with A and probably not another one ending in an EE sound. Here’s a good site for 5-letter names:Five Letter Baby Names - 5 Letters.
The ones I think would work well (exotic traditional) are:
[name_f]Amity[/name_f], [name_f]Xenia[/name_f], and
I like both [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] and [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] AND Reisa and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
but of the two Reisa and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] are my fav :), Reisa is my preffered spelling and i would pronounce it the way you want it pronounced.
i also think Reisa [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] is nice, that way they are not to matchy but there middle names start with the sam initial. This also ties in your other daughters name [name_f]Amity[/name_f] to the mix. I also like [name_f]Serenity[/name_f] and [name_f]Clarity[/name_f], but you might think that is too matchy.
