Twin Names Poll

I voted individual, no links but I’ll explain further! Personally I wouldn’t go into it looking for a link, necessarily, which is why I chose that, but any of those options are lovely when the right names appear!

It really depends! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite though has to be [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] and [name_f]Nadia[/name_f]; they are reverse spellings!!!

I generally like them to be individual. A very subtle link can be nice, like the same amount of letters or syllables (or the same meaning, but I think I’d find that quite limiting) but that’s it.

For example, I like [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_u]Kai[/name_u] together and [name_f]Juno[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f], but I would be just as likely to name twins [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] or [name_u]Remy[/name_u] and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m].

And I tend not to like repeated initials, so I’d be very unlikely to use names with the same first letter unless I just adored those names above all others.

I do think names of the same ‘genre’ can be nice together, if subtle: for example, I like that [name_f]Juno[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] are both goddesses. I think [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] would make gorgeous twin names for the same reason - and of course they’re both Scandinavian names too.

So I guess for me subtle connections based on the etymology of a name or mythology/history, or length/syllables can be nice, but nothing more than that. And it certainly isn’t a prerequisite.

I voted “no link” but I did give all of my girls three-syllable names. I had a [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], then with the twins knew one would be named [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], so I consciously chose a third 3-syllable name to go with them. The two boys names we had picked out also, by chance, had 3 syllables ([name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and [name_u]Julian[/name_u]).

I voted for completely individual, but my views might be more themed. I think twins should have names that have a similar length and style (such as [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]) but aren’t super themed or matching (like [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and [name_u]Winter[/name_u]). A more subtle link such as same meaning or anagrams can be nice too if done well.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is matching by origin or by era, sometimes by length, too – e.g. both 3-syllable Latin names or both 5-letter vintage names.

I think a matching theme is great as long as it’s not too obvious - it’s important to remember that both twins are ultimately individuals

Yes, I agree my poll is limited in choice, these were just the first ‘categories’ that came to mind. Your girl’s both have gorgeous names and I love the idea of them sharing a themed second middle to link them together.
I completely agree with the fact that twins should be individuals and not seen as a ‘pair’. [name_f]My[/name_f] cousins are twins (fraternal but both girls) and they both have Cornish first names and honour middle names so they are connected but not ‘matchy’ which I to think is really important. They sometimes wear the same outfits but i’m sure this will change as they get older as they are only toddlers currently.
Thank you for sharing your experience of naming your girls, really insightful!! xoxo

The closest I would be willing to match names for twins would be meaning, anything further than that I find is a little too much. I could potentially be persuaded into a very subtle theme, but I don’t think that it should be glaringly obvious, as I think individual identities are very important to encourage with twins.
One pairing I do like though is [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], which aren’t super connected on a surface level, but I love the nicknames [name_f]Laidy[/name_f] Bug and Bumble [name_f]Bea[/name_f] for them, so they’re kind of matched there.
