[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all, I posted this in the Writer’s Corner section but haven’t had any replies, so thought I’d try here seeing as more people seem to look at this section. Thanks in advance for your help!
I’m writing a children’s story at the moment and have some characters’ names sorted but am stuck on a name for a main character’s younger siblings (twins, one girl, one boy).
The main character is [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u], age 9, she assists my protagonists [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Jem[/name_u]’ (10 year old time travellers from the present day) with a mystery they are trying to solve. Her two younger siblings provide a fairly important clue in the story but aren’t really key characters, however I want them to have memorable names so they stick in the reader’s mind when the mystery is finally solved.
Genre of [name_u]Story[/name_u]: Children’s (7-12 [name_f]YO[/name_f]), near future sci-fi (time travel story)
Time Period/Location: UK, 2020
Character Description: Twins age 7 (so born in 2013), spend most of their time together making up games that deliberately exclude their older sister [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
Immediate Family: [name_f]Sister[/name_f] [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u], parents [name_m]Grant[/name_m] and [name_f]Holly[/name_f]
Names already used for other characters: [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]; plus pet horses [name_m]Silas[/name_m] and [name_m]Maverick[/name_m]
I like the idea of them having fairly ‘matchy’ names, e.g. [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], because they are close twins who spend a lot of time together but I’m not 100% sold on this so please feel free to suggest totally different names. I don’t want another M- name because [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] is an important character and I want to avoid any confusion.
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] and the twins’ surname is McAllister, but this isn’t mentioned much in the story except when [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] is first introduced. As the surname suggests, they have Scottish ancestry on their father ([name_m]Grant[/name_m]'s) side but they don’t have to have Scottish-sounding names.
