Twin Sisters?

Hello
One of our twin girls will be [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. Our last name rhymes with ‘burner’ but starts with a ‘t’ We’ve narrowed the other name down to:

[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f]

I’m torn because I don’t know if [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] flow will with the ‘T’ last name. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is nice but we dislike nicknames. My husband’s favorites are [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]; mine is [name_f]Eve[/name_f] but that’s his least favorite :frowning: I like [name_f]Vera[/name_f] as well but worry it’s a bit too close to [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. Thoughts? Which would be the best name?

My favorite for you is [name_f]Eve[/name_f]. I don’t love “t” endings with the last name but that is a very small quibble. I love the name [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], but I don’t think it goes as well with the sister name and a fairly common last name. I also love [name_f]Vera[/name_f], but I think it is too close to [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. Would you consider [name_f]Verona[/name_f]?

Thanks, I feel the same about [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] - it’s lovely but just not that special with our last name.
[name_f]Verona[/name_f] is nice but not for us.
Maybe my next question should be how to get my husband to like [name_f]Eve[/name_f]?!

I like [name_f]Eve[/name_f] the best. If your husband isn’t a fan what about [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] or [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]?

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] sound best together to me. I love [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] but I wouldn’t use T ending with T start surname (I have the same T last name issue!). [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is somehow too close to [name_f]Clara[/name_f] too.

Other options:

[name_f]Edith[/name_f] (maybe too fusty?)
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]

[name_m]Wild[/name_m] cards:
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Bess[/name_f] ([name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f])
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]

From your list, my favorite — with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and with your last name — is [name_f]Vera[/name_f].

I have to add that I think [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] would be a wonderful pair!

A couple of others came to mind: [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] or [name_f]Liberty[/name_f]

I don’t think you should use [name_f]Eve[/name_f] if your husband dislikes it that much, but I agree with others that you should suggest to him longer names with the nickname [name_f]Eve[/name_f]. I would also advice against [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], all Katherines I know go by a nickname.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] doesn’t sound too much like [name_f]Vera[/name_f] but if you are to have another daughter you’re kind of forcing yourself to use another -ra name to match. If you don’t want more kids then [name_f]Vera[/name_f] is fine!
I don’t think the -t ending is a problem, especially with [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] for some reason.
From favorite to least favorite:
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f]

  • Compared to Katherine, Catherine is relatively nickname resistant. I am a Katherine and I noticed that if a young Katherine (under 10) goes by Katherine, she is most likely Catherine.
  • I like Eve with Clara (life & light), but if one spouse is opposed, it won’t work.
  • I have always like Lucy and Clara as they both mean light.
  • Brigid could be an alternative to Bridget.

I love [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f], even if [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] ends in “t”! I think that would make a lovely name pair. I don’t think [name_f]Vera[/name_f] would work because it is so similar to [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. I’ve met a few twins that are annoyed by their too similar names.

A few compromises between [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f] might be…
[name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. I think the double Ts are OK. [name_f]Julia[/name_f] would also be nice. Does he like [name_f]Eva[/name_f] any better? Or [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_f]Evie[/name_f]? I know one [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] who does not use a nickname, so it’s possible. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] is a little harsh to me compared to sweet [name_f]Clara[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].

I have a [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] who is now in her 30’s and never had the nickname [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is only two syllables and does not need to be shortened. She grew up when [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Katie[/name_f] were very popular names. It was not difficult at all to establish [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] as her name and have it stick. I can’t say enough about how much I like the name [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]; it is a classic that will never go out of style. My daughter has always loved her name and was proud of it.

Though it would be nice to give each girl her own initial, I would tend to use the “C” form of [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], because [name_f]Cate[/name_f] is note as prevalent as [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and since both “C” and “K” have the same sound. When the two names are together it just seems more natural to have them both with the same letter since they begin with the same sound.

I’m mom to a [name_f]Vera[/name_f], so I’m obviously biased… I don’t think it’s too similar to [name_f]Clara[/name_f], but I don’t think I love how [name_f]Vera[/name_f] would flow with your last name. Have you considered [name_f]Verity[/name_f]? It comes from the same roots as [name_f]Vera[/name_f], and I think it could work with [name_f]Clara[/name_f]?

Congratulations!
I agree with you, my first thought was that [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f] are way too similar.
I dislike [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] for the double T’s as well.
I think [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] somewhat overshadows [name_f]Clara[/name_f], being rather longer.
I think [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is wonderful, although personally I believe a name with multiple syllables would suit your surname best.
If your husband isn’t on board with [name_f]Eve[/name_f], some other ideas are:

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

I agree with the other comments, if you love [name_f]Eve[/name_f], but you’re partner isn’t on board with it, give him similar alternatives.

I like the suggestion [name_f]Verity[/name_f].

Other names similar to [name_f]Eve[/name_f]:
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]
[name_f]Evalina[/name_f]/ Evelina
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
Olivia (nn livvy)

I love [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f].

[name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] both go lovely-- I’m sure that even though people will be inclined to nickname [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], if you put your foot down and refer to her as only her full name, she and other people will most likely stick to her full name. [name_f]Eve[/name_f] already goes the most lovely with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] imo, but if I may suggest, I think [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] would be the perfect name-- it goes amazingly well with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] as a sibset and in my personal opinion is just a gorgeous name all-around. good luck finding a name!!!

I love [name_f]Clara[/name_f]! [name_f]Eve[/name_f] would be my pick for you, as I love the name and think [name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Eve[/name_f] are pretty together.

Next choice would be [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] work really nicely together, and [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] T- doesn’t bother me, since you don’t really hear the T at the end of [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], whereas I don’t think [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] works since you hear the T more strongly.

I would steer clear of [name_f]Vera[/name_f] as I think it sounds too rhime-y with [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is nice, but I can’t tell if it feels too similar or too different to be matched with [name_f]Clara[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] can still work with the “t” last name.
Of your choices it’s the one I like best with [name_f]Clara[/name_f], though [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is a close second choice!

Thanks everyone! There have been some great suggestions but we can’t use some of them such as [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].

I asked my husband for some names (since he dismissed so many of the suggestions) - he said [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Mara[/name_f], [name_f]Myla[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Julia[/name_f] but he still likes [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f] best. I prefer [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] over his new suggestions.

I think [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] are the front-runners of the five names I originally listed (he may warm to [name_f]Eve[/name_f])

We ultimately want something as beautiful and timeless as [name_f]Clara[/name_f] that’s ideally not in the top 100
