A few days ago, I was debating whether to use [name]Eero[/name] and [name]Lilja[/name] or [name]Lily[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name] for my boy/girl twins, but your helpful advice helped me to choose [name]Eero[/name] and [name]Lilja[/name]! (pn. [name]Arrow[/name] and [name]LEE[/name]-lee-a/LEEL-ya) Now, its down to middle names. Here are some my husband and I were already thinking about. Any opinions would be appreciated!
[name]Both[/name] of us are “scottish” (husband directly and me, from many generations ago), so we wanted to use a scottish name in the middle. Husband is [name]Mackenzie[/name] [name]Neil[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] III. We decided, since [name]Mackenzie[/name] has gone to the girls nowadays, to use a different first name and possible preserve the tradition with either name in the middle. I’m [name]Savannah[/name], so if we go with this option, we want to have [name]Lilja[/name] [name]Savannah[/name], so both twins are named after their parents, not just one.
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Savannah[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Ainsley[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] (initials are LAP though, not sure if I like this)
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Skye[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Fife[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Isobel[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] (again, Initials are LIP…)
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Brooke[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Paige[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]
Yay! I’m so glad you decided to go with [name]Eero[/name] and [name]Lilja[/name]!
I personally love it when kids are named after family members, and having one of each it makes perfect sense to give them each a middle name to honor you and your husband!
So, I like:
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Neil[/name] ([name]Eero[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name] works too, but I prefer [name]Neil[/name])
and
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Savannah[/name]! (love this combo!)
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Neil[/name] and [name]Lilja[/name] [name]Savannah[/name]! [name]Eero[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name] is nice too, but since [name]Eero[/name] is so unusual, I’d personally choose a name that denotes gender, and [name]Mackenzie[/name] has gone to the girls, as you said. I really hope you choose to name the twins after yourselves, but if you don’t, I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Lilja[/name] [name]Fife[/name]! What a cute name! I’ve never heard [name]Fife[/name] before, it’s great!
I have a question for you. [name]How[/name] is Aaro pronounced? I would assume [name]AH[/name]-ro since otherwise it would be the same as [name]Eero[/name], right? I’m loving [name]Eero[/name], by the way, what a great pick!
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Eero[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name]
and
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Ansley[/name] (Beautiful name) I think it’s cool when your initials spell something : )
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Neil[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] has my vote for a boy.
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Skye[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] is my pick for a girl. I think this one is very pretty, I’m loving it!
Yeah!! I am so glad you decided to go with your heart and [name]Eero[/name] and [name]Lilja[/name]! I posted to your previous one about which names to go with and I felt that was the best and coolest!
I also [name]LOVE[/name] the idea of giving each child a name after you and your husband! I think [name]Lilja[/name] [name]Savannah[/name] is beautiful. I also think [name]Eero[/name] [name]Neil[/name] is nice and strong sounding. IF you don’t go that route that I love [name]Eero[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] ( my son is named [name]Rhys[/name] so I am biased) and i think [name]Lilja[/name] sounds so pretty with many of your choices. Good luck!
Hmm, as I said in a previous post about my twins’ names, I’m not actually Finnish, so, unfortunately not a guru on Finnish name pronunciation. But, if I had to guess, I’d say Aaro was pronounced AHR-o, like saying R-O in english. (this is just from bopping around google for a bit looking for finnish alphabet pronunciations…)
Question for everyone who thinks going with my husband’s and my names in the middle: you don’t think this is too “egotistical”? I’ve always sort of liked the idea of having my daughter named after me ever since watching [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls (just saw another poster mention [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls…ha, my favorite show!). You guys seem to think its great, and my husband definitely has expressed a want to keep his family’s naming tradition going.
Any personal experiences being named after a parent?
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Neil[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]: I think this is really handsome…
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]: I love the flow, and even though [name]Mackenzie[/name] has gone to the girls, I love how the name has meaning to you…
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Cameron[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]: Because [name]Cameron[/name] and [name]Paterson[/name] have the same -on ending sound, I like some of the others more…
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]: I [name]LOVE[/name] this!!!
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Graeme[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]: I like the flow of some of the others more, but I think that [name]Graeme[/name] is a handsome name.
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Reece[/name] / [name]Reese[/name] / [name]Rhys[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]: I think the others work better, because [name]Eero[/name] [name]Reese[/name]/[name]Rhys[/name] is hard for me to say because of the back to back R sounds.
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Savannah[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]: I think that this is pretty, and I like how it honors you.
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Ainsley[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] (initials are LAP though, not sure if I like this): I like some of the others more, because I have to pause between the names when saying the combo out loud because of the the back to back As.
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Skye[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]: Oh, I think this is beautiful…
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Fife[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]: I like some of the other names more…
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Isobel[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] (again, Initials are LIP…): I don’t mind the LIP, but I think that some of the others flow better (it’s the back to back vowels…)
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Brooke[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]: [name]Brooke[/name] feels a lot more modern to me than [name]Lilja[/name] and even [name]Skye[/name].
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Paige[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]: Ditto.
I’m really happy that you’re going with the names you love!
I used to think naming a baby after yourself was very egotistical. But then I heard someone say that she was named after her mother, and she always felt so special that her mother loved her enough to want to share her name with her. I’ve thought about it that way ever since.
My grandmother’s name is [name]Ann[/name], and it’s my mom’s middle. I’m my mom’s only daughter and I feel a little left out that I don’t have [name]Ann[/name] in my name.
I don’t remember if you said your husband is a [name]Junior[/name] or a 3rd (I think he was one of these, right?). Personally I wouldn’t break the chain, but that’s just my opinion. I know a lot of people do it, but I think it’s special. I love that your son will have both his parents favorite name, and his father’s name. What could be better? Same for your daughter.
So basically no, I don’t think it’s egotistical. I think it’s a creating a sweet bond between you and your children!
And thanks for your thoughts on the pronunciation of Aaro. I love the sound of [name]Eero[/name], but I wouldn’t enjoy making all the corrections! [name]Don[/name]'t take that the wrong way though, I really love it for your family!
I love your first name picks. I have to disagree with the others about [name]Mackenzie[/name] though: it is clearly a masculine name and sounds absolutely wonderful with your boy first name. [name]Neil[/name] is nice but not as dynamic or distinguished. [name]Savannah[/name] in the middle spot for a girl is darling.
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Neil[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] - This is handsome.
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] - I love the sound of this, but you may want a more masculine middle name…
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Cameron[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] - I don’t care for [name]Cameron[/name] with [name]Paterson[/name], as they both end in -on.
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] - I love the 2-2-3 balance of this name! So handsome and masculine, but unique and playful.
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Graeme[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] - I don’t think this has great flow…
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] - Too R-heavy!
MY PICKS: #1 ([name]Eero[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]), #2 ([name]Eero[/name] [name]Neil[/name] [name]Paterson[/name])
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Savannah[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] - I don’t usually like the first and middle names to end with the same sound, in this case the -ah sound.
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Ainsley[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] - LAP isn’t really bad, but I don’t love a middle name beginning with A with [name]Lilja[/name]…
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Skye[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] - This is pretty and modern, but I don’t love it.
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Fife[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] - [name]How[/name] do you say [name]Fife[/name]?
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Isobel[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] - I think this is too much name, what with the 3-3-3 pattern. There is a bit too much vowel, too…
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Brooke[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] - This is fine. Not too special, though.
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Paige[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] - This is very cute!
MY PICKS: #1 ([name]Lilja[/name] [name]Paige[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]), #2 ([name]Lilja[/name] [name]Skye[/name] [name]Paterson[/name])
I would also suggest a more classic middle name to match [name]Eero[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name], if you are open to suggestions. [name]Lilja[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Paterson[/name], [name]Lilja[/name] [name]Cate[/name] [name]Paterson[/name], [name]Lilja[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Paterson[/name], or [name]Lilja[/name] [name]Rose[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] would be pretty - especially the first two!
So glad you picked [name]Eero[/name] and [name]Lilja[/name]! Here are my thoughts-
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Neil[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]- the two short names followed by one long leaves me wanting more.
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]- With an unusual name like [name]Eero[/name] I think using a femme name as a middle is overkill.
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Cameron[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]- I just personally don’t like [name]Cameron[/name], so I don’t want to say too much, you do, that’s what counts!
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]- My favourite combo!!!
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Graeme[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]- I like this flow, but not the spelling at all. Other ideas- Grayer, Greir, [name]Grayson[/name], Geer.
[name]Eero[/name] [name]Reece[/name] / [name]Reese[/name] / [name]Rhys[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]- again the two short one long does nothing for me.
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Savannah[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]- I like this, but it’s not my favourite.
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Ainsley[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] (initials are LAP though, not sure if I like this)- I hate [name]Ainsley[/name], it’s one of my least favourites.
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Skye[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]- good, but I like [name]Skylar[/name] better, less hippie, but still light
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Fife[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]- I like [name]Fifer[/name], Phiffer, [name]Piper[/name] or [name]Petra[/name] better than simply [name]Fife[/name].
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Isobel[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] (again, Initials are LIP…)- my favourite! I think it’s perfect and lovely, don’t worry about the initals, she can give them as LP if she is worried about it in the future.
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Brooke[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]- I don’t think [name]Brooke[/name] fits with [name]Lilja[/name] or [name]Eero[/name], it belongs in a different sib-set
[name]Lilja[/name] [name]Paige[/name] [name]Paterson[/name]- like [name]Brooke[/name], it just isn’t right, but better than [name]Brooke[/name].
I love the idea of using the middle name spots to honor the twins’ parents! It is a sweet connection between you and the babies (not that such a connection is strictly necessary since you are, after all, the parents). If you do go with that idea, I love [name]Lilja[/name] [name]Savannah[/name]. Usually two names ending in -ah wouldn’t work but in this case I think it’s lovely. For [name]Eero[/name], I like [name]Eero[/name] [name]Neil[/name] but am torn between that and using dad’s first name too for [name]Eero[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name]. In the end, I think I just like [name]Neil[/name] more but I can see using both parents’ first names.
Hmm, as I said in a previous post about my twins’ names, I’m not actually Finnish, so, unfortunately not a guru on Finnish name pronunciation. But, if I had to guess, I’d say Aaro was pronounced AHR-o, like saying R-O in english. (this is just from bopping around google for a bit looking for finnish alphabet pronunciations…)

not egotistical at all especially in the mn position. Im not a huge fan of juniors as it get s confusing. I have the same mn as my mom and i think its super sweet. In your case you have a very nice name, [name]Savannah[/name], and it works well with [name]Lilja[/name] so go for it. I like [name]Eero[/name] and even like the spelling [name]ARROW[/name] that way he would not get people mis pronouncing it.
I really love [name]Mackenzie[/name] on a boy …my 26 year old cousin is named this and it suits him well! We are not Scottish btw, just pointing out that any boy of any culture can rock this
my vote obviously - [name]Eero[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name]
I think that [name]Eero[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name] [name]Paterson[/name] is a lovely name. I like how it brings in the family tradition of naming a son [name]Mackenzie[/name] [name]Neil[/name], without the downfall of calling a son [name]Mackenzie[/name] (which unfortunately is all girl now…). I also like [name]Eero[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name], but not as much as [name]Eero[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name]. You could even do [name]Eero[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name] [name]Neil[/name] [name]Paterson[/name], if you REALLY wanted to keep the tradition.
As for the girl ([name]LOVE[/name] [name]Lilja[/name]!) I think [name]Lilja[/name] [name]Fife[/name] is interesting. I think [name]Lilja[/name] [name]Savannah[/name] works well, but maybe your middle name? [name]Lilja[/name] [name]Susannah[/name] actually rolls of the tongue quite nicely…
For [name]Lilja[/name] I would choose [name]Skye[/name] it is a fantastic Scottish girl’s name and sound lovely with [name]Lilja[/name].
I also love [name]MacKenzie[/name] for a boy and think I may add another middle for him. Eg [name]Eero[/name] [name]Graeme[/name] [name]MacKenzie[/name]-[name]Paterson[/name].
