Not pregnant but with twins on [name]BOTH[/name] sides I have to wonder…
[name]How[/name] much should you match? [name]How[/name] much is too much? What would you do?
My dream would be [name]Claudette[/name] & [name]Corinne[/name] for g/g twins but my sister was horrified by the shared first initial thing.
I also love Merit, but Merit & [name]Claudette[/name] have somewhat matching ends.
I could consider something like [name]Fern[/name] & [name]Claudette[/name] which are very unmatched imo.
Basically what I am wondering is where do you draw the line between matching & cheesey when it comes to twins.
For me, it gets cheesy in a pretty big hurry. Same initials, same sound, same prefix or suffix. Matchy names = cheesy names.
That said, I think sibset names, especially twins, should coordinate. Flow appropriately together. Not be overshadowed by one another. Be somewhat in the same vein. None of your [name]Claudette[/name] pairings are quite cutting it for me. What about… [name]Claudette[/name] and…
[name]Claudette[/name] and [name]Corinne[/name] seem too cheesy to me since they have similar sounds and similar French origins as well as the same initial. I prefer [name]Corinne[/name] because [name]Claudette[/name] is a bit harsh-sounding to me. I really like littlemrsb’s suggestions of [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Vivienne[/name], and [name]Genevieve[/name]. They have the same classiness and personality of [name]Corinne[/name] but sound much less cheesy as twins.
[name]Claudette[/name] is such a lovely name but I do however agree that it can be a bit too cheesy matched with [name]Corinne[/name] (though not as cheesy as with a name like [name]Paulette[/name]). If you want matching first names I think that [name]Claudette[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] sounds good together.
Same initials can work if they’re not so matchy. Such as: [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name], imo.
But I ideally prefer different ones.
Some of my favourite twin naming habits are: Reversed Initials:
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Allegra[/name] & [name]Alessandra[/name] [name]Chloe[/name] (a combos I considered myself once) Same Meanings:
[name]Nathaniel[/name] & [name]Matthew[/name] (both mean “Gift of God”, [name]Theodore[/name] is another name that shares the meanings) Same Distances Between FN/MN Initials:
[name]Alessandra[/name] [name]Chloe[/name] & [name]Emma[/name] [name]Gwendolen[/name]. (ABC - EFG) Opposite Meanings:
[name]Aurora[/name] & [name]Selena[/name]
I also like some names that just sound good together imo, [name]Emma[/name] + [name]Alessandra[/name] being one of them.
They’re so different, but they sound and look so lovely together imo.
I think I might just be cheesy cause I like the matching first initial thing too!
I think themes might be cheesier to me…[name]Fern[/name] & [name]Lilac[/name] are two I love or [name]Fern[/name] & [name]Marigold[/name] might be worse to me than [name]Claudette[/name] & [name]Corinne[/name]…though I guess they share a French theme too!
[name]Fern[/name] is very nice. I’m not too keen on [name]Claudette[/name] & [name]Corinne[/name] as names but they work together as twins because they are not overly matchy to me. If you could suggest some other names you like then I could make some twinsets. (I [name]LOVE[/name] doing that)
I don’t think the first initial thing is too bad, honestly - especially if they are completely separate names from each other. I wouldn’t be horrified to meet a [name]Claudette[/name] and [name]Corinne[/name] as twins, in fact, I would shake the mothers hand for having such classy, sophisticated taste.
I find themes more cheesy (unless it’s in the middle, I think it’s nice in the middle) or even rhyming names are more cheesy, [name]IMO[/name].
These are names of twins I know which I consider very cheesy indeed:
[name]Connie[/name] [name]May[/name] and [name]Ronnie[/name] [name]Jay[/name]
[name]Don[/name] and [name]Von[/name]
Coleson and [name]Carson[/name]
That said, I don’t think these matchy-rhymey names adversely affected [name]Connie[/name], [name]Don[/name] or [name]Von[/name]. I know all three of them and they’re past middle-aged. Coleson and [name]Carson[/name] are about six months old, and, though I groaned when I heard their names, I know their parents and I think the boys will probably turn out just fine. If you like the matching first initials (it’s an issue I waffle back and forth on, myself), I think [name]Claudette[/name] and [name]Corinne[/name] are very sweet together. Best wishes!
Cheesy = [name]Jayden[/name] and [name]Kayden[/name], [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Marley[/name] and [name]Carly[/name], [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Jill[/name], [name]Claudette[/name] and [name]Claudine[/name], [name]Claudette[/name] and [name]Bernadette[/name].
Matchy = [name]Claudette[/name] and [name]Corinne[/name] (this is preferable to the chessy examples above. While not my preference, I don’t mind the same initials as long as the names sound different enough from each other)
Answering a question you didn’t ask: it doesn’t matter if there are twins on the father’s side. A man released 100-300 million sperm each time, so theoretically could have 100 million babies. All that matters is if, on the woman’s side in the direct female line, you tend to release more than one egg per cycle. If so-- voila, twinning!
There are genes that select for this. It’s the reason the highest rate of twinning in the world is in Nigeria (nearly 2% of births), and via that heritage, in the US African-Americans have a much higher rate of spontaneous twinning than anyone else.
Now, back to names-- [name]Claudette[/name] and [name]Corinne[/name] are extremely similar. They share a near-identical phonetic structure (accent on last syllable, starts with hard K, ends with consonant sound); are both French; and are drawn from a similar vintage style family. Any one of these three-- perhaps 2 of these three-- would be OK (and would subtly connect the twins), but 3/3 is too much.
Keeping [name]Claudette[/name]:
sharing a phonetic structure: [name]Claudette[/name] & [name]Ismene[/name]
sharing a French origin: [name]Claudette[/name] & [name]Gabrielle[/name]
sharing a hard K: [name]Claudette[/name] & [name]Carissa[/name]
sharing the first two: [name]Claudette[/name] & [name]Cecile[/name], [name]Solange[/name], [name]Simone[/name]
sharing the last two: [name]Claudette[/name] & [name]Caroline[/name]
i don’t find matching first initials cheesy at all. i’d be more bothered by rhyming endings or otherwise sounding very similar. i don’t like themes so much as names that coordinate in general or sound good as a pair. both being French is the kind of thing i’d shoot for when it comes to twin names.
I feel like any level of matching is a little too much. First initials would be a no-no to me. If I had twins, I would just give them names that I liked - for example, if I had twin girls, I would name them [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Rose[/name] because those are my two favorite girl names. I’m sure somebody could figure out how to make these match - they both have an R, they both have four letters (I’ve got a thing for four-letter names), but in the end, I didn’t choose them because they matched. I chose them because I liked the names.
I agree. [name]Both[/name] I and my brother have similar names. It doesn’t bother us. Only think that matters is how well you will raise them and what persons will they become.
Seeing how twins have a very special bond, I feel the “matchy…ness” of names is very important for their closeness through life. Yes, they will have their differences but their names are the first important part of realizing how special being a twin is. I am a twin and I’m speaking from experience.
