So a friend of mine has 4 boys: [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_m]Ralph[/name_m] & [name_u]Carter[/name_u]. I personally think this is an awesome sibset!
But… [name_m]Ralph[/name_m] and [name_u]Carter[/name_u] are twins and their full names are:
[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering what the general consensus on the reversing of the names was? Whether it’s a cute link or whether you think it could cause identity issues? Personally I can’t decide.
I’ve known twins named [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] and [name_f]Sally[/name_f]. It absolutely drives me up the wall. They literally have the same name. I don’t like reversed names or rhyming names or names that are only a letter or two off from each other. Same initials don’t bother me as long as the names are different enough.
[name_m]David[/name_m] [name_m]Micheal[/name_m] & [name_m]Michael[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m]… hehe i was like WTF when i found out their nicknames…
Yeah I don’t like this as well. It’s so unimaginative! Better than the ones with only a letter difference though ([name_u]Tyler[/name_u] and [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] for example). The biggest thing that I don’t like about the really matchy or repetitive names is that it’s like the parents are forcing a connection between the twins. Dude… They’re twins! I think they won’t have a problem finding a bond!
(I also foster dogs and have used really matchy names when it comes to litters of puppies. Mainly because it is kinda funny to come up with them, but it also helps me remember their names years later. But because of this, really matchy names either in Sibsets or twinsets make me think of litters of puppies, not real people.)
Meh. I’m not sure how I feel about it. My uncle is [name_m]Bruce[/name_m] [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and his brother is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_m]Bruce[/name_m]. So it just seems not that odd to me, but on the other hand, I always thought it was weird my uncle and his brother both shared essentially the same name. I find the pairing of [name_u]Carter[/name_u] and [name_m]Ralph[/name_m] a bit more odd than actually using [name_u]Carter[/name_u] [name_m]Ralph[/name_m] and [name_m]Ralph[/name_m] [name_u]Carter[/name_u], lol. They seem so different.
I’ve seen people do that and it drives me insane. I’ve also seen people give their twins the same middle name EX: [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] & [name_f]Carly[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f], which equally drives me insane. They are two different people, not two halves of one whole. I have a lot of friends who are multiples (twins and triplets) and growing up with them I have a lot of strong opinions on the subject.
Yeah, that’s terrible. Frankly, I’m too into names to give up an opportunity to name TWO people at once to do something like that! And I agree with the previous poster that [name_m]Ralph[/name_m] and [name_u]Carter[/name_u] are so strange together! They don’t match in feel at all. Bizarre choice!
I’ve never seen that in twins before, but personally, I think it’s awful. They need to be unique and their own person…they’ll share enough growing up without sharing a name.
Oh I feel so bad for kids like that. Like my dad’s niece has five kids and get this - there are only two boys and both their names start with C’s. The three girl’s all start with K’s and they all have the same middle name. [name_f]Marie[/name_f].
It really bothers me. Why would you name twins the same or why would you give siblings the same name. I know [name_m]Michael[/name_m] and [name_f]Michaela[/name_f], [name_m]Petri[/name_m] and [name_f]Petra[/name_f], [name_m]Martin[/name_m] and [name_f]Martina[/name_f] etc. And my aunt has for kids and two of those kids are named [name_m]Miska[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m] and Petrus [name_m]Michael[/name_m] which are the same names just another versions. It bothers me even though the names aren’t as close as [name_m]Petri[/name_m] and [name_f]Petra[/name_f]. Why can’t U just give every kid a name of their own.
I certainly wouldn’t name twins the same names reversed but I do like connections between twin names or sibling names for that matter.
In that sibset, I think [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and [name_m]Ralph[/name_m] fit together with similar style but [name_u]Max[/name_u] strikes me as more popular and nicknamey than the first two and [name_u]Carter[/name_u] surnamey. I guess [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and [name_u]Max[/name_u] fit together with the x.
So if I had two sons named [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and [name_u]Max[/name_u], I might choose twin names of Dextor and [name_u]Paxton[/name_u].
If I was going to use [name_u]Carter[/name_u] as one twin name, I would use another surname name. [name_u]Carter[/name_u] and [name_u]Hudson[/name_u].
A friend of mine knows twin girls named [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] (Key-ra) and [name_f]Kira[/name_f] ([name_m]Ky[/name_m]-ra). But I don’t understand why’d you just reverse the names or have slightly different spellings. It just makes the names sound so unoriginal.
There was also those twins on the cartoon, “[name_m]Timothy[/name_m] Goes To School” named [name_m]Frank[/name_m] and [name_m]Frank[/name_m], which I was always annoyed about.
What comes to mind for me are the detectives in the comic strip called The Adventures of [name_m]Tin[/name_m]-[name_m]Tin[/name_m]: [name_m]Thomson[/name_m] & [name_m]Thompson[/name_m] in English, Dupon et Dupont in [name_m]French[/name_m]. Personally, I find that to be quite hilarious. My opinion on [name_m]Ralph[/name_m] [name_u]Carter[/name_u] & [name_u]Carter[/name_u] [name_m]Ralph[/name_m] is fairly low, though - twins with the same name reversed just emphasizes the fact that they are twins and are similar, instead of the fact that they are brothers and could be different.
It drives me crazy! I knew some kids who went to my elementary school (not twins, siblings) called [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
