So my husband and I are having a dilemma with naming our twins. We just found out we’re having a boy and girl, and we have a little boy [name_m]Otto[/name_m] already. I’ll pop a post for girl inspiration on the girl forums.
I’m not big on matchy names at all, so having the names ‘match’ isn’t important, however I want the names to fit well together as a sibling group.
My favourite name for baby boy is [name_m]Linus[/name_m]- my husband is concerned for the peanuts connection. Is this a genuine concern for other people? He loves [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], but this is just too matchy for me.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you guys have any suggestions that fits nicely with older brother [name_m]Otto[/name_m]?
I love [name_m]Linus[/name_m]. I do think many people will associate the name with the Peanuts character, but don’t think that’s a bad thing.
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u] is great, but I don’t like it with [name_m]Otto[/name_m] either.
[name_m]Piers[/name_m]
[name_u]Carlisle[/name_u]
[name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m]
[name_m]Titus[/name_m]
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_m]Thatcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]
I like [name_m]Linus[/name_m]… I probably do think of the Peanuts cartoon first, but I think we are moving away from character names being off limits, and our children’s generation is not going to have much association with the cartoon I think.
I like [name_m]Linus[/name_m]! Other possible brother names for [name_m]Otto[/name_m]:
[name_u]Claude[/name_u]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Albert[/name_m]
[name_m]Ernest[/name_m]
[name_m]Virgil[/name_m]
[name_m]Basil[/name_m]
[name_m]Bertram[/name_m]
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] is a gorgeous name and I love it with [name_m]Otto[/name_m]. Two great names. [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] do sound awfully close.
Thank you all so much for your help! I’m loving [name_m]Linus[/name_m] the more I see it written down, and I love that I rarely hear it when I am out and about. But now I’ve seen so many beautiful names, I have a lot to consider.
Thank you for your opinions and suggestions, very much appreciated!
My son is [name_m]Linus[/name_m]. He’s 7 now. We did get quite a few “peanuts” comments when he was born, and when we’d introduce him to people when he was small. Most of those comments come from older adults. There were never any mean comments, just curious “Ohh, like in Peanuts!?”, “Where is [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_m]Brown[/name_m]?” and even “Oh, I bet he’ll play piano!” (Hello-- schroeder was the piano player, not [name_m]Linus[/name_m]!) And, very quickly, friends and family will begin associating your child with the name [name_m]Linus[/name_m] before the cartoon character. To my knowledge, no child his age has ever batted an eye at his name.
The Peanuts connection has never bothered me. [name_m]Linus[/name_m] is a saint’s name, the name of the second pope, and has ties to greek mythology. Many other wonderful things to connect his name to. (Plus, the actual Peanuts character was actually quite wise, so that doesn’t hurt either.)
Other names in a similar style to [name_m]Linus[/name_m] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m]:
[name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Nigel[/name_m], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_m]Silas[/name_m]
