Two different lists! Need compromise

My husband and I are now officially TTC #1! But now that we’re looking at names much more seriously, we’ve hit a bump. I always thought that our naming styles were quite similar, but I’ve come to recently realize that though we like each other’s lists, we don’t like any of the other’s names enough to agree on anything. Has anyone else gone through this? [name_m]How[/name_m] did it work out for you? I would appreciate any suggestions or thoughts on our dilemma, our choices, other names not on our lists, and possibly any combos. Thank you!

For reference, our current lists are:
Mine:
[name_f]Anessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_u]Clare[/name_u]
[name_u]Day[/name_u]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] - Somewhat an honour name to my grandmother ([name_f]Hope[/name_f]), or at the very least a little tie in
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] - My grandmother’s name
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u] - The month both my parents, and my husband and I were married
[name_f]Lark[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] - I love this, though would never use it as my cousin already has for his daughter
[name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] - One of my long time favourites
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - A nod to my best friend of 17 years, whose middle name is [name_f]Rosanne[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphire[/name_f]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]

[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_u]Austen[/name_u] - My number one boy’s name; a long running favourite
[name_m]Clarke[/name_m]
[name_m]Cole[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Elton[/name_m] - My grandfather’s name
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Horatio[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Lake[/name_u] - I prefer this on a boy, but I would consider it on a girl as well
[name_u]Larkin[/name_u]
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] - A family name; my father’s middle
[name_u]Oberon[/name_u]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Philip[/name_m]
[name_u]Poe[/name_u]
Sulien - Pronounced “sill - yen”. As a first, nn would be Sully (mostly to avoid mispronounciation). Preferably a middle though
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] - I prefer this on a boy, but I would consider it on a girl as well
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Timothy[/name_m] - Would only use as a middle

Husband’s:
Aurora
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - Growing a bit too common for my tastes
Dawna
[name_f]Dinah[/name_f]
Elizabette
[name_f]Emelda[/name_f] - His grandmother’s name
[name_f]Hera[/name_f] - I prefer Vera
[name_f]Imperia[/name_f] - Very striking, but I think it’s too much for a real person
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f]
Lynnie - This is too nicknamey for my tastes. He hasn’t liked any possible fulls I’ve suggested
[name_f]Maudine[/name_f]
[name_f]Mirabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Mireille[/name_f]
[name_f]Uriella[/name_f]/Urielle

[name_m]Amos[/name_m]
[name_m]Eben[/name_m]
Eleo
[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]
[name_m]Errol[/name_m] - I like this, but it’s the name of an owl in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], which I’m worried will be a common first association
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_m]Ismael[/name_m] - I like this enough to consider it, but after looking it up I found out that it’s a Spanish variation and feel wrong for using it as neither of us are Spanish
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] - I would only consider this as a middle. But whenever I say it out loud, all I can think of is the word “tadpole”.
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] - His father’s name
[name_u]Logan[/name_u]
[name_m]Matteo[/name_m]
[name_m]Orson[/name_m] - I wasn’t really a fan, but after learning that it means “bear cub”, it’s been growing on me
[name_u]Reese[/name_u]
Rhode - Sounds nice, but I don’t like the “road” association. Along with Lane, it makes me feel like Drive isn’t far behind.
[name_m]Thelonius[/name_m] - This name is quite cool, but I can’t see anyone outside of a fantasy novel wearing it.
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] - His mother’s maiden name

This is a tough one! What I did with my partner is have each of us give all the names a rating out of 5. I’ve singled out the names that we both rate either 4 or 5. Luckily there are two for each gender we have both given 5’s. Maybe you could give that a shot? And practice saying the names aloud to see what fits best/sounds most natural? These are lovely lists.

Congratulations, I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

An idea would be for one of you to pick a first and the other pick a middle, it worked out well for my parents when they named my sisters. Though that may cause some fuse still over the first name. You have a nice amount of family names in both of your lists, I find that family names tend to be an easier agreement for middles.

Some suggestions are:
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarisse[/name_f]/[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]/[name_f]Lillianne[/name_f]/[name_f]Lillianna[/name_f]/[name_f]Liliana[/name_f]
Lilabel
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Charlene[/name_f]
[name_u]Mirren[/name_u]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Helene[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
Marguerite
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Maybelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Aline[/name_f]
[name_f]Thomasine[/name_f]/[name_f]Thomasin[/name_f]

[name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_u]Carlisle[/name_u]/[name_u]Carlyle[/name_u]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]/Vincente
[name_m]Harry[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_m]Westley[/name_m]
[name_m]Judah[/name_m]
[name_u]Lionel[/name_u]
[name_m]Edwin[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]/[name_m]Olivier[/name_m]
[name_m]Marcus[/name_m]

Good luck!

It might help to think of which names from each others’ lists you each like the best, and try to work from there. I noticed you think [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is getting too common, so how about [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]? Also, my first association with the name [name_m]Errol[/name_m] isn’t the owl in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] but instead [name_m]Errol[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], if that helps you in any way.

I think mixing your lists in terms of firsts and middles might be your best bet, as you seem to each have such definite tastes, and a compromise name might not satisfy either one of you.

For example;
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Orson[/name_m]
[name_u]Austen[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Eben[/name_m] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]

[name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Dinah[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] [name_f]Maudine[/name_f]

Good luck!

“My first association with the name [name_m]Errol[/name_m] isn’t the owl in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] but instead [name_m]Errol[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u].”

My thoughts exactly. I wouldn’t worry about that association.

Some combo suggestions:
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
Elizabette [name_u]Clare[/name_u] - My favourite
[name_f]Mirielle[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Maudine[/name_f]

[name_m]Orson[/name_m] [name_m]Clarke[/name_m]
[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m] [name_m]Cole[/name_m]
[name_u]Austen[/name_u] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_m]Timothy[/name_m] [name_u]Reese[/name_u]

@finn Thank you for the suggestions!
