Olivie nn. Vivy. No I didn’t make it up, it’s a real French name, honest! This feels like ‘the name’, but I’m put off by the popularity of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. I’m English and with my accent Olivie sounds like Olah-VEE so quite different to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] when spoken, but obviously similar written down. Also like Vivy as 1) I just really like the sound of the name and 2) my Grandpa was Vyv ([name_u]Vyvyan[/name_u]) and it’s sort of nice to have a similar name, or at least nickname.
I love the idea of the name [name_f]Clemence[/name_f], it sounds so sophisticated and beautiful. I really like [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] too and would use it alone except [name_f]Clio[/name_f] is a car here, and not a good one! It’s probably more unusual than Olivie and sounds posher, which I like, but I just can’t love it as much.
I love Olivie. Its very cute and a unique take on the more popular [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] but still proper and respectable. And Vivy is an adorable nickname! Also with the sentiment included I feel like its a great choice. I prefer it to [name_f]Clemence[/name_f].
Thanks! I keep referring to the baby as Vivy and we don’t even know the gender for sure yet! I’d just been quite put off by the negative responses to Olivie so it’s nice to hear someone who likes it!
Clemence! I love Clemency and Clementine, so naturally that’s my favorite. But wouldn’t you want to stick to Olivie until you know it’s not a boy? Olivie is cute, but might get confused with Oliver or Olivia. Then again I once knew a girl named Al1z33 though, [like Alison]and it worked out fine for her!
We’re not going to use these names if we have a boy A boy would be [name_m]Felix[/name_m] or [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] but I am just feeling like it’s definitely a girl! I actually love [name_m]Olivier[/name_m] for a girl- or spelt [name_f]Olivi[/name_f]é- but I feel like it might be a bit weird!
Hmm… Having studied french all my life, I like the idea though unless spoken in a french accent (natural or otherwise obtained through schooling) it falls a bit flat for me. I guess it also depends where in england you live as there are so many accents lol! ([name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know if my geordie family could give the name the pronunciation it deserves!) Most people would also assume that you just misspelled [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Olive[/name_f].
Have you thought of [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] for Vivy? Others that sound nice are [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]. One last suggestion with your naming style is [name_f]Olympia[/name_f].
On the other hand [name_f]Clemence[/name_f] is very beautiful and I quite like the name [name_f]Clemency[/name_f] myself. [name_f]Clemence[/name_f] also fits into the french name idea, as it a medieval french name.
I love Olivie! My best friend was [name_m]French[/name_m], and she mentioned it once or twice (although I think she preferred Ophélie, to be honest). I like the Shakespearean [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] more (Twelfth [name_m]Night[/name_m]'s my favorite Shakespearean play), but I think Olivie is adorable, and I’d love to meet a little one with the name!
I don’t know why I didn’t put two-and-two together to get that pronunciation, though; I always just sort of assumed it was uh-[name_f]LIV[/name_f]-ee rather than [name_m]OL[/name_m]-ih-vee. I like the latter much better, but I think it would sound awkward without a [name_m]French[/name_m] accent? Maybe not. It just sort of doesn’t seem [name_m]French[/name_m] anymore when said with an English/American accent to me. Then again, I can’t seem to say [name_m]French[/name_m] names without saying them with a [name_m]French[/name_m] accent, haha. While I love the British pronunciation of Amélie (AM-illy), I can’t help but say it [name_m]AH[/name_m]-mee-lee. I think Olivie is perfection, though, and even the combo Olivie [name_f]Clemence[/name_f] (perfection!). I prefer [name_f]Olive[/name_f] or [name_f]Livy[/name_f] to Vivy, but [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]/Vivy is adorable.
Yeah, I like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], but I don’t want to use it. Really hate [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] reminds me of The Hunger Games! I like [name_f]Clemency[/name_f] but much prefer [name_f]Clemence[/name_f], which I can say properly in my accent but if she went by [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] it wouldn’t be an issue for anyone. Same for Olivie/Vivy. And before anyone points it out yes I know that Olivie is Oh-lee-VEE; I’ve just written Olah-VEE as that’s how it sounds with my particular accent saying those sounds if that makes sense?
I [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] Ophélie, but that one I really worry about even my own pronunciation, let alone anyone elses! Plus OH thought it was pretentious
I don’t say uh-[name_f]LIV[/name_f]-ee at all, the emphasis is on the VEE sound at at end, so quite different to the British way of saying [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but it might be just different accents?
I like Olivie [name_f]Clemence[/name_f], was considering that but didn’t know if was too many ‘e’ sounds?
I think Olivie [name_f]Clemence[/name_f] is really pretty! And if you have more kids your boy’s name [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and Olivie are really cute together
[name_f]Clemence[/name_f] sounds quite posh to me and [name_f]Cleo[/name_f]/[name_f]Clio[/name_f] brings pictures of cars to my mind. Olivie is unusual but strangely pretty.
Olivie (OlahVEE) is beautiful! I’m glad that you explained the pronunciation because it’s a name that I haven’t been aware of, but I love it. I much prefer it over [name_f]Clemence[/name_f]. Sometimes we worry about how others will say the name, but family and your circle of friends will be introduced to the pronunication when she is born. Others will get it when introduced, or they can be gently corrected. Great choice!
Both names are sweet choices. They are uncommon but familiar (though I’ve never heard of Olivie before it’s familiar because of the [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] association and it’s a nice alternative). [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t think you can go wrong here.
I definitely don’t like [name_f]Clemence[/name_f]. It doesn’t sound all that pretty or feminine and the nickname of [name_u]Clem[/name_u] is really unappealing.
As for Olivie, I do like it and I like Vivy. Olivie is actually what I constantly typo when I try to type [name_f]Olive[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. I definitely think [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is way too popular, but I am seriously crushing on [name_f]Olive[/name_f] right now and it’s on my top three. I guess I prerfer Olivie over [name_f]Clemence[/name_f].
