Two middle names?

Why do some people choose to give two middle names? What are the benefits? [name]How[/name] many of you have used or will use two middle names for your kids?

I did it because I wanted to use both an English and a Korean middle name.

I think these are some of the reasons:
Want to use more of the names you really like.
Want to honor more than one family member with the middle names.
Want to give the child other options in case he/she doesn’t like the other names.
[name]Just[/name] like the way it sounds.
One middle name is just because you like it, the other one is to honor a family member.
It’s a tradition in your family.

We gave our daughter 2 middle names, but not our sons. They were born first and I never even thought of it.

We had a single middle name combo picked out for DD, but then we moved abroad a month before she was born, so I wanted to give her a Finnish name to honour her birthplace.

I wish I had done it with the boys as it does give you an extra name to play with. If I have another girl she will be given 2 middle names (a Finnish one if we are still here) but if I have a boy I don’t think we will, to keep it balanced.

I love the flow of names with 2 middles. There is something whimsical about it. I also really like the idea of having one to honor family, and then one with some other sort of significance to me and DH. I would use double middles for both girls and boys, but I can’t convince DH on it to save my life. He just will not budge, so I doubt my children will get to have 2 middles :frowning:

Ditto. I don’t have kids (nor will I have kids anytime soon), but I love double middles for the whimsy of them and having one with family or other significance.
Prime example: I love the name [name]Ford[/name] for a boy, and I want to honor my dad [name]David[/name]. [name]Ford[/name] [name]David[/name] just doesn’t work well. [name]Ford[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]David[/name], on the other hand, works very well.
Also with my favorite girl’s name, it’s starts with an M, as my does my middle name, which I wanted to pass down. So I threw another name in between to honor my mom and brother.

So that’s my reasoning. I just love two middle names, and I hope someday I’ll be able to use them!

I plan to use 2 middle names, as it is somewhat of a tradition and I just love the sound/flow/frilliness of 3 names together. I agree that there is something whimsical about it.
The name nerd in me also sees it as a challenge as far as picking 3 names that work well together.

My kids have two middle names. Honestly? It’s pretty much because I’ve always been obsessed with names (kinda weird for a guy, I guess, but it’s mostly because I hate my own name). Another reason was that my husband and I both come from very big families, and we had a lot of people we wanted to honor. That’s mostly just the excuse I use, though. I had a tough time choosing which names NOT to use :stuck_out_tongue:

The thing is, it’s never been an issue. We use both middle names wherever they will fit on forms, etc. No one’s ever thought it was too abnormal, even though I’m sure some people think it’s a bit pretentious.
