[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering! What are everyone’s thoughts on two middle names? I really like it for girls, and I thinks it’s nice! I wouldn’t use it on guys, but either way I think it’s cool. Is it kind of weird or do you think it’s becoming more normal! So whats your opinions? And if you had to use two middle names for your favorite girl and guy name what would they be?
I love two middle names and will use two middle names on any of my children. I do think it will become more popular.
I’m not a fan. I grew up with a hyphenated name which is similar to having a second middle name (four total names). While I liked all my names, and I didn’t even mind that much that my names couldn’t fit on some forms, it became problematic when I got married. Not wanting to give up any names, I ended up adding my hyphenated last name as another middle (now basically giving me 3 middle names). My husbands last name is very long so my total name now looks a little ridiculous on social security card. And I couldn’t even begin to fit them on my drivers license. Maybe I should have given up one of my names but there is some significant family history behind the names and they are very meaningful to me so I didn’t want to give them up. I love the idea of using more middle names in theory but practically speaking I just don’t think it works. Maybe for a boy. But I do think it’s nice to give your daughter the option someday to add her maiden name as a second middle if she wants.
When I’ve met people with two middle name it’s to honor two family members, for example a boy has his FN then one MN for his paternal grandfather and one MN for his maternal grandfather, and same with girls here too (but with their grandmothers names).
I think it will become more popular; but I’m not really a fan. It’s a bit too much.
I like the idea, especially for girls
My mum has two middle names too. I don’t have any middle name
In [name_f]Austria[/name_f] middle names are somewhat out of fashion now
I think it can sound really pretty when it’s just the first and two middles said aloud/written. Some combos sound beautiful! But when adding the last name it can sound a bit over the top and rambling, like a list of people, not one person’s name. It can take away from each name’s beauty by piling them on. I would only consider it if I absolutely had to honor family and if the last name would be one syllable.
I can see how people like it but to my ears the individual names aren’t as showcased when grouped together like that.
My husband has two middle names and both of our boys have two middle names. Therefore, our little girl-to-be will have two middle names as well. I see nothing wrong with it for either gender. Go for it!
I think it’s nice to honor family, and also just to be able to add more character to a name and use more names you really like. My favorite girl name is [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], and my current combo (though it’s always changing) is [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_u]Scout[/name_u]. For boys, my favorite name is [name_m]Phineas[/name_m], and current combo is [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m].
