I really like names that have some family significance, so we decided to each pick a potential middle name, I chose [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] and DH chose [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]. We both like the names, but not as first names. We want a unisex/unique name for her first. Right now our list is down to [name_u]Blake[/name_u], [name_u]Remi[/name_u], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_f]Elin[/name_f]/Elind, and [name_f]Grier[/name_f]. Anyways, somehow we thought maybe we’d do both middle names so both families would get a name in there. (We’re both very close to our families) But I’m having second thoughts. [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] seems like too much, especially since we’re adding another name in there. We definitely don’t like [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] as her whole name, the whole thing is too girl for me, lol. Ugh, I guess I just need a little outside input on whether or not it’s just too much.
Last name is Falls:
[name_u]Blake[/name_u] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_u]Remi[/name_u] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Elin[/name_f] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
Elind [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Grier[/name_f] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
I think [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] sounds wonderful, has a nice flow and is truly unisex (well, the first name is); I don’t think it sounds like too much and you both get your honour name, neither family is left out.
Additionally, I think that with “Falls” as your last name, the more names are put in front of it, the less it sounds like a sentence “[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] falls” / “[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] falls” but more like a name.
From your list, I also really like [name_f]Elin[/name_f], it’s a female name but doesn’t sound frilly, instead it has a more unisex sound but she won’t be confused as a boy all the time (which I fear would be the case with [name_u]Blake[/name_u] & [name_u]Parker[/name_u]).
[name_f]Grier[/name_f] Falls sounds a bit choppy as both are only one-syllable long, Elind is interesting but I do prefer [name_f]Elin[/name_f] and I only know [name_u]Remi[/name_u] as a [name_m]French[/name_m] male name, so it doesn’t sound unisex to me either.
I think the names you’re considering flow well and don’t seem like too much. However, I’m generally not a fan of double middles for these reasons, just as considerations:
-
It can be a headache for paperwork. Frequently the second middle gets left out, meaning the first one ends up being more “important,” which is often exactly what parents are trying to avoid by including two names. Or it gets used by the insurance company but not the doctor, and then you end up making extra calls to reconcile a bill, etc.
-
For girls in particular, there’s a greater chance she will acquire an additional name if she gets married. If you only have three names to begin with, it makes it easier to add the new last name without legally ditching your maiden name. Who knows what women will choose decades from now anyway, but I like the idea of leaving that option open for a daughter.
-
It can seem pretentious or indecisive. I don’t feel this way when they’re family names, but it can seem indulgent if parents just can’t bring themselves to decide since that’s what naming is all about.
My vote goes to:
[name_u]Blake[/name_u] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Elin[/name_f] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
Once the name starts having more syllables, it gets to be a mouthful!
I don’t usually like [name_f]Grier[/name_f] ([name_f]Greer[/name_f]), but I am loving [name_f]Grier[/name_f] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]!
I think all those combos are great, but I’m not a fan of the double middle names. I don’t hate them, but I prefer just one. With [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], it is very girly, but if she went by [name_u]Sam[/name_u] that’s not girly at all
I love [name_u]Remi[/name_u], I think that’s so cute. As for double middle names, my parents faced a similar issue with their first, my older brother. They wanted to honor both fathers plus my Dad’s stepdad. So they gave my brother two first names and a middle, and called him by the middle- [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Chandler[/name_u] and then our last name. Worked out for him just fine. Although I will say having a girl might complicate that with the whole maiden/married name thing, just something to think about.
I like [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f].
I have two middle names and its never been a problem.
If you think it’s too long maybe you could consider finding one name that honours both names.

[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] is my favorite.
I love [name_f]Elin[/name_f] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]! [name_f]Grier[/name_f] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] would be a close second.
I think two middle names is a great idea, and the names you’ve chosen make fabulous middle names. Out of your list, I think I like [name_f]Elin[/name_f] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] the best, I think [name_f]Elin[/name_f] is a great name. My next choice would be [name_u]Parker[/name_u] then [name_u]Blake[/name_u]. I don’t mind [name_f]Grier[/name_f]. The only one I really dislike is [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. But I think you have a great list to work with!
Why not [name_u]Sam[/name_u] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]?
Either [name_f]Greer[/name_f] or [name_f]Elin[/name_f] in my book.
I like [name_f]Elin[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f].
I agree with all of lwj’s points. Also, if someone ever wants to add her name to a family tree chart, it might be impossible to include her name without omitting part of it or using a font that is too tiny to read.
I wouldn’t worry about 2 middle names being too much. I was given 3 at birth and on changing my Sir name adopted a 4th middle name. [name_u]James[/name_u] louis [name_m]Roger[/name_m] Farrow [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]… Now personally I think it’s a bit much haha, but it works for me and I think any 2 name combo can work for you
I vote for [name_f]Elin[/name_f] or [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. I also don’t think double middle is a problem, but then I gave my son a double middle. I know it can be a paperwork headache at some rare times and I also dealt with a lot of attitude from various others who disagreed with our choice, but unlike a pp’s suggestion that it indicates indecision on the part of the parents, for us it was a very conscious decision to bless our son with the meaning of his given names. It sounds like it would be a conscious decision on your part as well. I think the whole (Nameberry) community should also keep in mind that we are a vast community spanning generations and geography and people move around within that geography/culture all the time, so I really hesitate to post anything on here that encourages another member to stick to some naming “rules”, such as only one middle, because it might not be a rule at all somewhere else. And even if it were - who cares?
I think [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] would be lovely with the nn [name_u]Charley[/name_u]/ [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_u]Blake[/name_u] is quite nice too. Other unisex -ish options:
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Evan[/name_u]) ~ a personal fave!
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]
Seabrook
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] (not quite unisex but nice)
