We have a baby girl due in two weeks and are trying to decide on a middle/middles. Husband and I love the name [name_f]Tess[/name_f] as a first, but we have two middles that we like and can’t decide. Both are the names of great grandmothers, but on different sides. There isn’t really any disagreement about naming after a particular side of the family, we just both like both names. So let us know what you think. One, or the other, or both. . .
I think with [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] both being short the adding [name_u]Florentine[/name_u] doesn’t make it too long at all. My only concern is that with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] being a food and [name_u]Florentine[/name_u] being a style of cooking that [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_u]Florentine[/name_u] sounds like a recipe. Maybe [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_u]Florentine[/name_u] [name_f]Olive[/name_f] instead?
I def think you could use both middles but I personally prefer [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_u]Florentine[/name_u]. [name_u]Florentine[/name_u] is just gorgeous and flows so well with tess
I noticed the culinary theme too, but honouring both grandmothers feels more important than that, so I’d use both. I do think [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_u]Florentine[/name_u] [name_f]Olive[/name_f] flows better than [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_u]Florentine[/name_u], though the surname may make a difference.
The food reference hadn’t occurred to us. That may be something to consider and may mean we need to go with just one middle or swap the order. Thanks for picking up on that. That’s exactly what feedback is for.
Two middle names is the norm where I live. So I don’t see a problem with using two. Our first had two middle names, and so will our second. The order of which comes first depends on how it flows best.
I have two middle names and I’d definitely say go for both! [name_f]Tess[/name_f] being short balances out the length of the middle names and the whole name has a gorgeous sound to it.
I am usually not a fan of two middles, but I think since [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] are both short, go ahead and add [name_u]Florentine[/name_u]. Very cool name!
I personally am not a fan of double middles. My brother has 2 middle names and it has always caused problems and confusion. That’s just my opinion though! Lots of people probably have 2 middle names and love it.
I think the middle name spot is game on for whatever you want to do. It won’t have any day to day difficulties on your daughters life! I plan to do two middle names also…
As you can see from my signature, my daughter and my soon-to-be-here daughter have two middles. [name_u]Holland[/name_u] got our maternal grandmother side and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] will get the paternal side.
The only thing I have to say about order is that in the U.S., semi-formal documents/cards (insurance cards for example) will only use the first middle initial (in my experience). It hasn’t been an issue with [name_u]Holland[/name_u] since her middles are both V’s, but I have to confess that I ordered [name_f]Olive[/name_f]'s name so that my grandma would be first and so would be represented in those documents:wink:. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to consider…
