I am due 2 weeks today and have two girls names in mind. The names are:
[name]Clara[/name]; and
[name]Louisa[/name]
They both mean something to me but I am not sure which one would be best for my daughter. I worked with a little girl called [name]Clarissa[/name] at a summer camp in WA and she was such an amazing child. I have loved the Sound of [name]Music[/name] my whole life, it’s my mum’s favourite film, [name]Louisa[/name] is the second von trapp daughter and this baby would be my second daughter also.
I have come up with family middle names for both but I am unsure which to pick. I am in the UK if that makes any difference. I was wondering if you could tell me which you prefer.
You could just wait 'til you meet baby to see which name suits her more? Or maybe try having hubby talk to baby & see if there’s a response for one over the other. That’s what I’m gonna do if I can’t make up my mind on two middle names in time.
[name]How[/name] many syllables is your last name? If you have a 2-syllable last name you could go with [name]Louisa[/name] if you have a 1 or 3-syllable last name you could pick [name]Clara[/name].
I do like [name]Clara[/name] better but I have a [name]Clare[/name].
I’m in the UK too and I much prefer [name]Clara[/name], as I find [name]Louisa[/name] and [name]Louise[/name] very dated names. I think I slightly more the spelling [name]Luisa[/name], which looks a little fresher to me.
I think [name]Clara[/name] is beautiful, and pretty underused!
However, I feel like you love [name]Louisa[/name] a little bit more from your post.
[name]Both[/name] names are vintage and lovely but I prefer [name]Louisa[/name] a bit more. What a tough choice! I think you should take both names to the hospital with you just in case she “seems” like one instead of the other!
[name]Clara[/name] sounds so pretty. [name]Louisa[/name], despite its literary attachments, seems rather bland. [name]Clara[/name] has always been one of my favorites.
Personally I prefer the reason behind using [name]Clara[/name] more. I can never quite understand the logic behind naming a child after a fictional character.
But they are both lovely names! I would wait until you meet her to decide
Oh, I love [name]Louisa[/name]! [name]Little[/name] Women by [name]Louisa[/name] [name]May[/name] [name]Alcott[/name] was a childhood favorite.
I have never been a fan of [name]Clara[/name].
I like [name]Clara[/name] best. [name]Clara[/name] [name]Louise[/name]/[name]Eloise[/name] would be a cute way to work in [name]Louisa[/name] a bit. It’s a compromise.
I literally couldn’t decide! This is one diffcult decision as I truly adore both
I made my decision on the fact that [name]Louisa[/name] isn’t quite as popular as [name]Clara[/name] in the UK (not that there’s much in it, [name]Clara[/name] is at 201 and [name]Louisa[/name] is at 253) and [name]Louisa[/name] has fab nn options [name]Lou[/name], [name]Lulu[/name] and [name]Lula[/name] [name]Lula[/name] being my personal favourite!
I prefer [name]Clara[/name]. I’ve never really liked the sound of [name]Louisa[/name], though I do have a very good friend with the name, and she wears it well. Either one would probably be lovely…I just think there’s something beautiful and classic about [name]Clara[/name].
