What do you think of these names:

I love [name]August[/name]! I like it in long forms like [name]Augustus[/name] and [name]Augusten[/name] and the nickname Auggie is adorable.
[name]Basil[/name] pronounced bah-sill. I think this is a weird pronunciation. I pronounce [name]Basil[/name] like Ba-sill (the Ba like in cat) not bay or bah. I like it pronounced that way, but I find your pronunciation strange to me, so I like it less.
I like both. I prefer [name]August[/name] over [name]Basil[/name], but I think they’re both awesome.
Dantea: Maybe I am talking about the same pronunciation as you phonetically: ['bæ-səl]
I am happy to hear that you both like [name]August[/name]. I don’t like the long forms as much, I don’t want to sound pretentious…
I can’t read that phonetics stuff the A in [name]Basil[/name] for me makes the same sound as the a in cat, hat, apple, etc.
To me, [name]AH[/name] is like the a in farm, yarn, darn.
A is a long sound like in bane, cane, zane.
So which one of those sets are you liking? I like the first, the second is a little weird to say for me, and the last I dislike.
I do love [name]August[/name] and I don’t think the long forms sound pretentious, but to each their own
[name]Basil[/name] to me will always be bay-sill, like the herb, so I wouldn’t go with it just because you probably will never get the pronunciation you want from others…
[name]August[/name] is okay though, overall I’m not a fan of month names…
[name]August[/name], and any variation of it, is wonderful. [name]Love[/name], love it. [name]Don[/name]'t like Auggie as a nn, I prefer [name]Gus[/name]. I don’t care for [name]Basil[/name] for a number of reasons. You’re going to have pronunciation issues. Possible teasing, depending on the personality of the child, the area you live in etc. And even without that, I still don’t like the way it’s pronounced! Sorry.
I know, I will have to move to the UK to get a decent pronunciation of [name]Basil[/name] (as in Fawlty [name]Towers[/name]).
It is funny. It hadn’t even occurred to me that [name]August[/name] is a month name. It sounds different than the pronunciation of the name of the month in my first language, so I just wasn’t cued into that.
[name]August[/name] isn’t only a month name it’s also a word as in “His [name]August[/name] [name]Majesty[/name].”
[name]August[/name] – noun: the month following [name]July[/name] and preceding [name]September[/name]
▸ adjective: profoundly honored
▸ adjective: of or befitting a lord (“Of august lineage”)
I love [name]August[/name], [name]Augustus[/name], [name]Gus[/name], all except for Auggie. I don’t think [name]August[/name] would be pretentious at all. I do think that [name]Basil[/name] would be perceived as pretentious and everyone would pronounce it as bay-sill like the herb. Plus there is the whole basil body temperature thing. Maybe it could work as a middle name?
