Two syllable first and last name for girls

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,
When I was pregnant with my 1st, someone told me I should avoid any two syllable names for the first name as I have a two syllable last name. We are pregnant with baby #2; and although we aren’t finding out the gender, we have two boys names picked with only one syllable that I’m happy with. However, most girl names I like are two syllable- is it a faux pas to give her (if it’s a her ) a two syllable first name? Does this make for a boring name? For reference, I prefer very feminine names, the front runners being [name_f]Florence[/name_f] or [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]. ( I secretly love [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] but I’ve noticed it’s a very polarising name)

[name_f]My[/name_f] daughters name is 2:3:2 for syllables it’s really not a problem if you have the right middle name. I think 2:2:2 would sound funny. But 2:1:2 or 2:3:2 would be just fine. Even 3:2:2 might work. I agree with previous poster its name dependent

I think it all depends on the names in question. If the first name and last name flow well, I wouldn’t worry about it. Some 2 syllable first names sound terrible, flow-wise, with some 2 syllable last names. For example, my little sister’s name is [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] and our last name is 2 syllables, and I think they flow really nicely together. ([name_f]My[/name_f] name is also 2 syllables with our 2 syllable last name, and I think it sounds good, too.) So, I wouldn’t worry about how many syllables there are at all, as long as the pairing sounds good.

I definitely don’t think you should rule them out as options! Try saying them out loud a few times!

Agreed. And again, it is really dependent on the names being considered.

Ditto what @wilkie8709 said! I think the middle name can ameliorate the flow. I have a 2:3:2 name, and I think it flows fine. There are other things that can improve flow besides syllables, like consonance. I feel like a lot of names, both first and last, are two syllables, so it’s not too out of place compared to other patterns.

It’s not a big enough deal that I’d say if should be a deal breaker for your favorite name!

I think it’s fine!

Firstly, congratulations on your second child!

This is, in all honesty, a non-issue. I don’t think you need to concern yourself with it a second longer. There is nothing wrong about any combination of syllables. I cannot feel any more strongly about this. It is simply a matter of preference for some people. It doesn’t matter in and of itself. Think about the names of people you know. You will notice that many people have two syllable first and last names. It’s completely normal.

It doesn’t make a name boring either. Those opinions are usually based on preferences around popularity and style. The syllable count is about the name’s rhythm or flow. It’s not just syllables that contribute to this however. It’s also the stress or emphasis in the names, the combination of consonant and vowel sounds and the name style as well. It’s not a universal thing. What sounds good to one person, is different for the next person.

So, it truly doesn’t matter unless it bothers you personally. I certainly wouldn’t cross off any of my favourite names for the reason of syllables alone. [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] are all fantastic names. It’s your right to choose the name you love.

I have a 2:4:2 name, my brother’s is 2:1:2, and my dad’s is 2:2:2. I honestly think it depends on the names. If it sounds good, then go for it.
