We thought we had basically decided on [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f] for our baby girl coming in TWO WEEKS, but the past couple days we’ve been having serious second thoughts, especially since our last name begins with the “F” sound, too. Not too keen on the alliteration when it comes right down to it. Our little man is M@tthi@s [name_u]Flynn[/name_u].
Hubby asked me to re-vamp our name list and either we will find something new or we’ll go back to [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f]. Here’s what I have so far…
Luelle [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] nn “Zellie”
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] nn “[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Lulu[/name_f]”
Maybe?
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
I’m lacking some seriously inspiration and we don’t have much time left!
Hubby likes names like [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], and Irish names. He doesn’t like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_u]Lyric[/name_u] or names that sound trendy or made-up.
I like names like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], and Luelle. Classic and familiar but not trendy. I tend to not like top 100 names or clunky grandma names.
HELP!! I seriously thought we were set for a name and now it’s crunch time!!!
Ow wow I like the name [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] that’s so cute. I think you can get away with it unless it really rhymes with your last name like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] Phebians or something. …
[name_m]How[/name_m] about one of these name combos:
[name_f]Gerda[/name_f] Luelle
Luta [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Belva[/name_f] Luelle
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] Luelle
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] Luelle
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]!
i have two girls names i absolutely adore and will definitely be calling my girls.
[name_f]Nirvana[/name_f] and [name_u]Aspen[/name_u].
So I love the nn “[name_f]Lu[/name_f]” and since you’ve already touched on that name a few times, I would maybe stick to that.
[name_f]Luella[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (loo-sha, loo-Chee-ah, or loo-see-ah however you want to pronounce it)
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] (nn still could be [name_f]Lu[/name_f])
Talulah
[name_f]Louisette[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f] is perfect and unless it really rhyme I wouldn’t worry about the similar sound. You have alliteration with your sons middle name [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] too, does that bother you?
If you do want to change it I second just switching the names, [name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is also sweet, but there’s an F sound again. I really hope you keep [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f]
Hmm, Phoebe is a beautiful name, but I get what you mean with your F last name. Definitely stick with Phoebe if you can’t find anything you love as much, because the alliteration isn’t a total sin and may be pretty catchy.
Some other names that have a classic but not overly popularised feeling could be…
Olive: Last popular from around 1880s to 1930s.
Eloise: Had her popularity spike around 1910.
Esther (or variations like Hester and Aster): peaked in 1990.
Camille/Camilla: Has Cami & Millie as ageless nn’s.
Hazel: In 1890 it peaked at #23.
Pearl.
Hannah.
Ruth: This I’m partial to as its my own old lady middle name & I gave it to my daughter. #5 in the 1910s, it hasn’t had a spike like that since.
Dawn: 1950s-1960s.
Iris.
Elodie: It’s never been in the top 1000.
Mabel: The more you say it, the more you think of little Mae Mae. 1880s & early 1900 century.
Margaret/Margarite/Margot: peaked in 1990s, and SO many nn’s. Maggie, Greta, Rita, Mila, Marlea, Mari AND I’ve heard some use “Daisy”, because the French version Marguerite is also the French word for daisy.
I hope you settle on something you adore. You will know.
Tell us what you find for your little one.
To reply to a question that came up, the “f” sound as a middle doesn’t bother us at all, it’s just when its in the first name slot
I’ve added [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] to a list to show hubby! My fav combos today are [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and Luelle [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]. I’ve discovered I really like name with the emphasis on the second syllable.
I love [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f]! [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is nice too, but I think your original choice is beautiful.
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f] is really sweet. I like it. [name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] would be very pretty as well.
I also love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] & [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f].
It seems you really like “[name_f]Lu[/name_f]” names so I would go with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Luella[/name_f] or Luelle as a first or middle name and pick the other name from there.
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f] is so sweet! If you don’t go with this, I third (or fourth?) the suggestion of [name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. I also like your choice of Luelle [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]. Good luck!
Hubby updated the list and said he doesn’t like [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] at all for a middle name for [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] or [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] for Luelle. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] seems like it’s out, too. Sounds like our top options right now are:
Luelle
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] (if we keep it)
Middle names unknown! [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f]? ARGH, this is stressful.
