Tyche

Thoughts on the name Tyche for a girl?

Tyche means luck and is the name of the Greek goddess of fortune and prosperity.

Pronounced (ty-kee).

I think it might be confused with the term tai chi.

Why not?

I’d pronounce it differently, closer to the Greek. Reminds me of [name_m]Tycho[/name_m] for boys. Sounds like a very strong name for a girl, which I like!

Certainly nothing to suggest it is a boys’ name. Hadn’t considered as a given name but I think I like it.

For some reason it gives me the same vibes as some middle names like [name_u]Lane[/name_u] and [name_f]Paige[/name_f] and I think the middle spot would work best.

I’ve heard the term 'tyke ’ used to describe misbehaving, cheeky or difficult children and that’s what this reminds me of…sorry. Not sure how universal that term is though

I thought of tyke initially as well, but on thinking about and knowing that the ‘e’ is pronounced I think it’s okay. I especially like the goddess association. I’m not sure if I’d use it as a first, but I’d definitely use it in the middle, and I’d love to meet one!

I think Tyche is really cool, but even I would probably relegate it to the middle. I love it, though, I want to play around with it in combos.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] Tyche, such a cool name. I agree it might be better in the middle spot, because itll probably get a lot of pronunciation issues.

(btw where I’m from - northeast usa - tyke just means a child or little kid. nothing negative about it! I’d be more concerned with people pronouncing it like tai chi instead)

It makes me think of Tyke as in ‘little tyke’ but the spelling kind of makes me think [name_f]Psyche[/name_f] and that doesnt have a good imagery

I really like it! It sounds like the feminine version of [name_m]Tycho[/name_m] (a favorite gp of mine).

I personally dislike it, only because the Greek pronunciation is TEE-hee so the tie-kee one seems weird/silly to me. That said, I love nickname [name_m]Ty[/name_m] and I think it’s a usable name!
