I love the nn [name_m]Ty[/name_m] - so much that [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] was in our top 3 because I wanted to use it so much. A close friend had called dibs on [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] (not planning to use a nn) years ago and was tttc at the time so I didn’t consider [name_u]Tyson[/name_u].
Both are solid names. I think general consensus is that [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] is a little dated and [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] is fresher and more unusual. I like [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] more - it seems softer and I like that.
If you like [name_m]Ty[/name_m], perhaps you might like [name_m]Ry[/name_m]? It seems a little more fresh with a full name like [name_u]Rylan[/name_u], or [name_m]Ryland[/name_m]!
I like the nickname [name_m]Ty[/name_m] too. My cousin is named [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] and he’s a teenager now. I do think [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] is more interesting than [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] but personally I wouldn’t use it because of the association with [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u]. [name_m]Ty[/name_m] ranked #484 last year, so there are people just naming their kids [name_m]Ty[/name_m], if you’d be interested in that. The other [name_m]Ty[/name_m]- name on the top 1000 is [name_m]Tyrone[/name_m]. Also I found some other [name_m]Ty[/name_m]- names on Nameberry, like [name_m]Tyree[/name_m], [name_m]Tyrus[/name_m], and [name_m]Tynan[/name_m].
Have you thought about using [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] or [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] as a middle name instead? I think that would be a great option so you could still use the nickname but get to pick a fresher first name with a positive association.
I also would recommend thinking about the possibility of using a name like [name_m]Tennyson[/name_m] to get to the nickname [name_m]Ty[/name_m].
Sorry, but when I hear [name_u]Tyson[/name_u], I automatically think of the boxer… not a positive connotation for me personally. [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] (with nn [name_m]Ty[/name_m]) is a new classic. Can’t go wrong.
[name_u]Tyler[/name_u] feels dated, and [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] feels like it’s going to be dated. Personally, I would go with [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] because it’s a family name.
I prefer [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] to [name_u]Tyson[/name_u], but I like [name_m]Tyrus[/name_m] and [name_m]Titus[/name_m] better than both of them.
I prefer [name_u]Tyler[/name_u], and [name_m]Ty[/name_m] is cute! I have a cousin named [name_m]Thom[/name_m]@s [name_m]Henry[/name_m] that goes by [name_m]Ty[/name_m] too.
Of the two options, I prefer [name_u]Tyler[/name_u]. Why not just use [name_m]Ty[/name_m]?
