Ultimate Boy Name

@hb123 posed this question on the Girl Names forum. I’d like to see everyone’s answers to the boy version!

“If you were having a little girl and knew that she would be your only one, what would you name her? Would you try to honor many people? Or would you just use names that make you happy? How would you go about choosing the ultimate girl name?”

I had a harder time coming up with an ultimate boy name, just because I want all boys and I prefer boy names! [name_m]Silas[/name_m] has been my go to name for close to a decade now, it would be hard to let him go. I can’t narrow it down from the following three…

[name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]Raines[/name_m] [name_u]Davis[/name_u]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] [name_m]Raines[/name_m] [name_u]Davis[/name_u]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Raines[/name_m] [name_u]Davis[/name_u], nn [name_u]Mack[/name_u]

[name_m]Raines[/name_m] is my father and grandfather’s mn. It came from the surname of the doctor who came out to my great grandparents’ farm in the middle of a storm to deliver my grandfather! [name_m]Just[/name_m] love that story. [name_m]Raines[/name_m] has been the middle name of choice my entire life. [name_u]Davis[/name_u] is after my brother, [name_m]David[/name_m]. I guess I would have to take these 3 names to meet him and see which one sticks!

I also struggle immensely with boy names. I like a lot of them, but can’t see myself actually using most of them.

[name_f]My[/name_f] ultimate boy name is [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (haven’t found a middle I feel is right, but [name_u]August[/name_u] tends to be the one I come back to). The only negative is it’s recent popularity :unamused:

I don’t know if this is what I would choose if I carefully considered it, but a name that has been stuck in my head for years is [name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. It seems bright, brave, and soft. I couldn’t tell you why I love it, but I keep coming back to it.

Oh gosh! It’s a tie between [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] [name_u]Forest[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Brook[/name_u]! I think I’m leaning more towards [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] today!

Oh, fun!

I think that this is slightly easier than my girl pick. I’m fairly set on [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m]. [name_m]David[/name_m] is honoring my dad who passed away. And [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] kind of checks all of the boxes. Charming, classy, fairly simple yet totally unique, & Gaelic. Our ln is an very Irish ‘[name_m]Mac[/name_m]’ name, & most of my little nephews have cool Irish names.

Theodore [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is currently my set top name, but I go back and forth between [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]. Both are special honor names to me, and it would be so tough to choose between them if I’m only using one! I think, ultimately, [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] might win out, actually. Not set on a mn for it, though.

(Nowhere near as easy as my girl pick!)

Theoretically, I’d say my favorite boys’ name, [name_u]Avery[/name_u]! It has one of my favorite ties to one of my favorite stories, and it comes from my family tree too. I love it and would love to have an [name_u]Avery[/name_u].

BUUUUUUT. While I was reading this thread, all I could think of was [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] nn [name_u]Bo[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] grandma was [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and I’d love to have a [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] in her honor. Plus, [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is one of my favorite combos on my list, although I could honestly see me swapping it out for something simpler on a real baby (like [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]?).

When it came down to it, I can almost guarantee he’d be [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_m]Casper[/name_m], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. Not sure which, and it flip flops based on my mood, but barring some really crazy circumstances, I can’t imagine having a little boy named anything BUT one of those. Maybe [name_m]Reef[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_u]Aquila[/name_u], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]? But [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_m]Casper[/name_m], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] are much more likely…

This is so hard for me!! I LOVE so many boys names but my ultimate favorite would have to be [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]. It is so strong, yet soft somehow, and I can see it on all ages. It also has a fantastic connection to my faith. [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] is my fiancé’s name and also is the promise land in The Bible. So, I think my ultimate boy name is [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Canaan[/name_m].

Middle names for a boy would definitely be [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] [name_u]Kit[/name_u] (two honour names), but I change my mind on first names all the time. Currently I’m loving [name_u]Laurie[/name_u], though he could just as easily be a [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] or an [name_u]August[/name_u].

Mine is [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] Carrow. [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] honours my favourite musician, [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] is my grandfather’s name and Carrow has a personal connection. I’d probably use it on a real child, but if baby’s dad wanted his name in the first middle spot I wouldn’t mind.

Up until 2018 it was [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] but [name_u]Remy[/name_u] has replaced that. It is my absolute favourite!
[name_m]Even[/name_m] if my SO were to object I would not budge.

This is so difficult! I feel like, while my favourite girls name has been the same for ages ([name_f]Delilah[/name_f]), my favourite boys name changes every day! I have quite a few that I like, but none of them feels like “the one”, you know?

Right at this moment it’s between [name_m]Casper[/name_m] and [name_u]Adley[/name_u]. Ask me again tomorrow & it will have changed!

This one is so much easier for me than the girl question! [name_f]My[/name_f] partner and I can only agree on two boys names and our first son’s middle name is already set (my husband, his father, and his grandfather all have the middle name [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], so that’s something we’ve agreed to pass on). Our favorite is [name_u]Brooks[/name_u], but I do get a little nervous about the initials BJ, so if we were too scared to use [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], he would be [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. A common, traditional name, but I have grown to quite like it.

100% his name would be [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. Apart from the fact he’s creeping up in popularity, I absolutely love and adore everything about him. I’ve imagined having an adventurous little [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] running around outside, playing pretend, getting all muddy, laughing and smiling all the time, dreaming of all the things he could be, and just being happy and free. [name_m]Even[/name_m] saying [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] out loud, I never get bored of the sound, and even after about 6/7 years I still love the name so much! [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is my ultimate name of all names.

In terms of middles, initially I decided to just go for my GP, super literary combo ([name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] [name_m]Walter[/name_m]) since I’m so far off having kids anyway. But I’ve really grown to love it, and honestly, I’d probably use it if I had a boy today.

I don’t know if I have one - something holds me back about every boy name! I’m in a bit of rut with them at the moment.

Theodore - too popular, love [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] but really dislike [name_m]Ted[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] - too popular
[name_u]Harry[/name_u] - love it but the ‘hairy’ thing bothers me
[name_m]Archie[/name_m] - kind of getting popular where I live and I’m not sure about nickname names
[name_m]Alfred[/name_m] - my brother would never get over the Batman reference and it would bother me haha
[name_m]Casper[/name_m] - I like it but don’t love it as much as I used to
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - bad family association so it’s off limits even though I love [name_m]Fred[/name_m]/Freddie
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - daughter’s name is [name_f]Bea[/name_f], so that would be too many [name_f]Bea[/name_f] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] refs
[name_u]August[/name_u] - too popular among people I know
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]/Linus/Reuben - SO dislikes
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]/Edward/Fitzwilliam - too close to family members’ names

One name I like that is harder to nitpick is [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]. It’s a family name. So my current choice for my ultimate boy name is [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]!
