Ulysses vs Murray

These are our two favorite names (I won’t tell you yet which I prefer), but we are also considering [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] and [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m].

Possible middle names…
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] [name_u]Levi[/name_u]
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_u]Murray[/name_u] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_u]Murray[/name_u] [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]

Which name do you think is better?

[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] Levi!!

This is a side note and not really a suggestion but the most common spelling of [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] in america is [name_m]Ulises[/name_m]

I’ve never seen the [name_m]Ulises[/name_m] spelling! Only [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] (in [name_u]North[/name_u] America).

I like both but prefer [name_u]Murray[/name_u]

i imagine you’d get the Ulysses spelling more than Ulises, seeing as most americans would think of Ulysses S Grant. i’ve never seen the spelling Ulises before either

that said, i love Ulysses Hugo! i’m not a fan of Murray, really.

Name meaning is big for me so I like [name_u]Murray[/name_u] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] best

[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]

[name_u]Murray[/name_u] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] is seriously handsome! As a [name_u]Brit[/name_u], [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] just seems like such an… epic name to me. I know it has historically been fairly popular in the US, but to me it’s a very big name to carry. [name_u]Murray[/name_u] seems more wearable but still super distinguished and unexpected.

I love [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]! Especially [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] [name_u]Levi[/name_u].

I like [name_u]Murray[/name_u] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] best. I also like [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m].

[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] :green_heart:

I absolutely love [name_u]Murray[/name_u] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] ,Ulysses is too out there for me personally, but it’s a lovely name

[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is my favourite!! It’s so cool and handsome. Not a huge fan of [name_u]Murray[/name_u] but it’s just not my style there’s nothing wrong with it.

@katinka That is exactly what I am thinking! I like the sound of Ulysses, but there’s not a great nickname and it feels heavy for a baby/toddler… Murray feels a lot more warm and wearable.

I would definitely go with the Ulysses spelling, since that’s the literary version which is what we would be referencing. My two big hang ups with Ulysses are the meaning (hateful???) and the lack of wearable nickname (its just a weighty name).

My husband is a big fan of Ulysses, I am team Murray

I love [name_u]Murray[/name_u] Nathaniel!!

[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] [name_u]Levi[/name_u] is a winner!!

[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], I love how grand this sounds.

Murray!! So cool!

[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] [name_u]Levi[/name_u]

These names give off a similar vintage vibe, but feel quite different other than that. [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] is grander, the name of a hero, be it the Latin form of [name_m]Odysseus[/name_m] or war hero [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] S. [name_m]Grant[/name_m]. [name_u]Murray[/name_u] is more working-class Irish, could easily fit in as an immigrant in [name_u]Boston[/name_u], [name_u]Philadelphia[/name_u], [name_m]Baltimore[/name_m], and other northeastern cities.

I think the heroic vibe of [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] goes great with [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], not to mention they’re both the names of great books.
