Uncommon Irish Names

Hello,

Looking for some uncommon irish names that aren’t too out there. I like traditional and strong names but find that most of the ones I like are overused. Thanks!

These are from an article about unique names from an Irish newspaper. I think I got the genders right?

It could be a good site to check out if you’re wondering about Irish names and/or trends in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]: Baby Names · The Daily Edge The only Irish names I know well are the ones already listed on nameberry like [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] and [name_m]Killian[/name_m].

Sorry for the double post

Sorry for the triple post sheesh

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you mean out there in spelling, or out there as in strange? There are plenty of normal-sounding Irish names that are spelled a little crazy, like [name_f]Laoise[/name_f] (lee-sha.) I’ll give both spellings, original and the anglicized:
[name_f]Aisling[/name_f] ([name_f]Ashling[/name_f])
[name_m]Tadhg[/name_m] ([name_m]Tighe[/name_m])
[name_f]Aine[/name_f] ([name_f]Anya[/name_f])
[name_m]Seanan[/name_m] (this is pronounced like [name_m]Sean[/name_m] but with an “an” at the end, so I guess there is no anglicized spelling)
Sadb (Sive)
[name_f]Ailis[/name_f] (Aylish)
Medb ([name_f]Maeve[/name_f])
Naomhan ([name_m]Nevan[/name_m])
Tuathal (Toal)
[name_m]Ruadhan[/name_m] ([name_u]Rowan[/name_u])

Lasairfhíona and Iúile are lovely and unusual Irish names.

I only have a collection of girls’ names  but here goes:

Siofra (SHEE-fra)
[name_u]Aoibheann[/name_u] (EE-van)
Caolinn (KEY-linn)
Liadan ([name_u]LEE[/name_u]-dan)
[name_f]Grainne[/name_f] (GRAHN-ya)
Blaithin (BLAW-heen)
Dianaimh ([name_f]DIA[/name_f]-neev)
Fynvola
[name_f]Dearbhla[/name_f] (DERV-la)

all the others are probably more common than you’re seeking out!!

Depending on where you’re from, a large number of truly Irish names are going to be quite out there. Most Americans can’t even pronounce them. haha I love Irish names and have taken the time to learn some and still struggle to pronounce them. But I love them nonetheless. Anyway…

I’ve mostly listed the Anglicized versions of the names as I feel like those fit “uncommon, but not out there” based on where I’m from. Since I don’t know where you’re from, I could be way off, but here are my suggestions anyway.
